And now you see how much of a tragic character Hohenheim is! I LOVE THIS REVEAL! Also, the name "Theophrastus Bombastus" is one half of the full name of Paracelsus, a 15th Century Alechmist and medical genius. The other half is "Von Hohenheim". I love Hiromu Arakawa for this.

There is a misunderstanding here. Pride is the first Homunculus that 'Father created' i.e. Pride is the eldest of all the Seven Deadly Sins.

Dude watched father being created and said, is that pride? Just because someone claims to be first doesn't mean that they actually were

Theophrastus Bombastus Von Hoenheim, also known as Paracelsus, as a Swiss physician, alchemist, lay theologian, and philosopher of the German Renaissance... which is funny cuz hes the only dude in the show thats actually based on a real life individual. edit: since philosopher stones are made of living beings, its safe to say that it is congealed/crystalized life force... hence 1 human equals 1 philosopher stone.

Funny thing. So native amestrians are blonde with blue eyes. Then you have a few other skin tones and eye colours from the regions around central that were conquered during the expansions - mostly integrated fully. Ishvalans have Red eyes, white hair, and tan skin. The people from Xing are Asian, generally chinese. And then until this episode, only Ed, Al, Hohemheim, and Father are Golden Eyed and Haired. Close enough to amestrian no one questions it, but still... That's what Xerxians look like. It's actually rather wonderful to see Ethinicity used like this so naturally for world-building.

Pride was the first one created by father, Father was the first one created by human.

Episodes 40 and 41 are two of my favorite episodes in FMAB, especially 41. I'll write two comments to avoid conjuring up an essay again lol. EP40: This is the episode people have been asking for ever since the very first time they see Hohenheim and Father separately. Anyway, I'll try to make this clear for you right now because I also had many confusions during my first watch of this and didn't end up resolving them for a long time. Firstly, Van Hohenheim (Ed and Al's dad) is the origin and Father is the product. How was he created? WHY was he created? Well, though not much canonical information exists (Arakawa usually doesn't say more than necessary when she wants to highlight the philosophical aspects more than the plot itself), it is theorized that Dwarf was simply born as an accidental byproduct of an alchemy experiment conducted by Van's master in which his blood was used (makes sense for slaves at the time). It is to be noted that Dwarf needed Van's blood to survive. But that's why he was never really seen as a threat, and even allowed to talk down to the King because he had no real "power" from inside that flask except the power to see through the deepest desires of people (the king let him speak because he had immortality on his mind too). Reminds you of some seven deadly things, doesn't it? Dwarf is more knowledgeable than Van from the start, and even feels grateful to him. It's a kind of gratefulness brimming with an air of superiority tho as we see at the end of the flashback. However, at this point in time, Van is also a blank slate, and he doesn't wear any sins on his sleeve. So he helps Van gain knowledge. He inserts the seed of freedom into him. Knowledge helps Van become an apprentice to his master and also gain closeness to the King. This is not out of Dwarf's character as you'll see later on. Dwarf gives incorrect instructions to the King in the absence of Hohenheim, likely because of his sheer alchemic knowledge. Dwarf has one true goal, and part of it requires him to be free from the flask. In his elaborate attempt to secure more permanent source of sustenance so that he no longer needs Van, he takes the souls of the Xerxes people. In order to prepare himself for his next step, he takes the body of the man he is grateful to, and as a cruel gesture of gratefulness, leaves him with an immortal body. In terms of alchemy, there are also very interesting interpretations of Father. I HIGHLY advise you to check out Max Derrat's video on Father once you're done with the series. PS. No, Father isn't Pride. It will be mentioned later
