No computers, no auto tune. Just pure talent. They say Stevie picked up the guitar at age 7, obviously he rarely put it down. Yeah, Stevie had the best stank face ever.

What really sucks is that I was a teen when SRV was around, and never knew he could do any of this. Sure I heard the occasional studio track on the radio, but those don't even compare. They barely hint at his actual talent. So I merely heard him on the radio (the few tracks of his that made the pop charts), and thought, "kinda groovy, bluesy... not bad". But I wasn't rushing out to buy his albums, or see him in concert. Even today, his albums are mostly just sort of... meh. It's these old live cuts where the magic really happens. Had I known what he could do, I would have been camped out on a sidewalk to buy tickets!

I was luck enough to see him play live twice before he died back in the 80's and ill never forget it, never. "He's not just a musician, he is a magician"💯 you have that right. And glad to hear you say you want to watch him live as that is where the true magic is. Stevie was truly plugged into the universal River of Music. He stood in the river and let it flow through him🎶🎸💙. His heart beat blue💙 for sure. There has never been a more passionate or committed player ever. He knew he had been given a gift and he never took it for granted. He devoted his life to perfecting and sharing that gift. He would say if he played each time like it was the last time he would ever play it had to be the best he could do. Stevie had earned the love and respect from all the great blues players that he had always looked up to. BB King once said that he (BB) played the blues in sentences and sometimes had to think of something else to say to keep the conversation going. But he said Stevie played the blues in paragraphs and never ran out of things to say. This video is the epitome of that statement. First time landing on your channel and really enjoyed your reactions. May I suggest a very special song and performance called "Life Without You" from the 1985 Capitol Theatre. A composition written by Stevie in tribute to his good friend Charley Wirz a Dallas Guitar shop owner who passed away unexpectedly from a heart attack. You are in for a very special treat I promise‼️💯 here is the link and I look forward to your reaction. kzbin.info/www/bejne/eoKXg3iPmaieitk

Stevie Ray Vaughan not only played behind his back longer than anyone ever did or ever will imo, he played with his teeth, one handed, no hands just by moving the guitar up and down, broken string, switched guitar in the middle of a solo and never missed a beat, tune his guitar while playing, adjust his AMP'S while playing one handed, behind his head, backwards and even his elbow in Little Wing. Stevie Ray had a career that only span 7 years from his first album Texas Flood that Stevie Ray and Double Trouble recorded in only 1 day in 1983 up to his death August 27th 1990 in East Troy Wisconsin in a helicopter crash. In only 7 years he was inducted into The was the 1st musician to be inducted into the Austin Music Hall Of Fame, in 2000 The Blues Hall Of Fame, he won 6 Grammys, 10 Austin Music Awards, 5 W.C.Handy Awards, Entertainer Of The Year, Instermental Of The Year and inducted into The Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame, he was nominated 51 times and won 21 so if you can find someone who could or can do all that he could let me know because I'd love to see it, I love the guitar. He was an amazing guitarist with so much love for everyone and a sweet soul. STEVIE RAY VAUGHAN IS THE GOAT. IMO.

The Magic Man. Your response reminded me so much of when I first saw this performance - jaw dropped for life. He was already my favorite but had to order this from a catalogue in the mail in 1994 as a bootleg, and I already wanted it to be great as you root for your favorite right - but what he did blew right on past my love mostly from his "The Sky is Crying" post-humous album release, then he did this - Texas Flood - then closes with "Lenny" (There is a HUGE recommendation - Lenny from el Mocambo - will further leave you mind blown) and I have never seen anyone even remotely touch that performance. The tone he gets out of that Strat alone is otherworldly let alone he was improvising his endless source of soul and he was ON that night - truly, the entire show is a master class and such a sonically luscious an guitar wizardly experience do yourselves a favor - and us as your reactions are awesome - and peep the entire show. But best next one is either "Lenny" or "Little Wing" as far as El Mocambo goes...this is younger party SRV - wild and unconstrained like a bronco ready to explode the stage - then you have late 80's clean and sober SRV - equally amazing but different - a straight assassin - like Uma Thurman when she arrives to kill Bill - cool calm lethal and transcendent - so worth watching in all the Live at Austin City Limits clips in 1989 - but this here, this is the raw unbridled yet sadly struggling personally Stevie But that is part of the Blues mythos good or bad or whatever - and he lived it. But that right there - you can dissect how a human can arrive at being able to do that but part of it involves leaving this dimension, he does - he goes where the monks go who meditate in a cave for 30 years or the Shaman's send you on Ayahuasca - that other place all around us we can't quite see - he dips into that and brings back literal magic - such a quiet and humble and generous dude - he had his own demons but he beat them, but he treated people around him like gold and - if you ever want to hero worship in music, I am glad I happened to end up with Stevie when I was in High School and he had just passed away - before I even knew who he was - not until they released the AMAZING album "The Sky is Crying" did I migrate from worshipping David Gilmour to Stevie - not a bad duo to try to emulate. Big moment - I am so glad you both loved that. Peace in the streetz and a happy Bluesday Tuesday.

I got to see two out of your great three. I was too young for Hendrix, but saw Eddie Van Halen by luck from basically front row center in 1981 when I was 16, and I saw Stevie many times from everywhere in Dallas and especially Austin. I saw his older brother Jimmie play before I ever heard of Stevie. Jimmie’s high school band The Chessmen opened for Hendrix a couple of times, and Jimmie Vaughan bought a broken guitar effect pedal from Jimi Hendrix, fixed it, and gave it to Stevie, because he knew how much Stevie admired Hendrix. So there is a sort of connection or continuity there. If you haven’t seen Stevie play Hendrix’s “Little Wing”, the El Mocambo version is stunningly beautiful. Stevie seems to be in a trance, like he would be sometimes, tapped in to the Source and letting the music take him over and flow through him. I’ve never seen anything else like it. It made you aware that there is something greater than us, because no man can play like that, like you had a glimpse of perfection, of Heaven. That “Little Wing”, like this “Texas Flood”, is the closest I’ve seen to capturing that essence on video.

Years ago I was driving through Wyoming. I had been on the road for a long time and needed to make a "pit stop" due to all the soda I'd been drinking. The only place I could find was a lone tavern on the side of this long stretch of road. I pulled in and parked my car, walked up to the tavern, and opened the door. It was dark and smoky inside, and as soon as I opened the door, everybody in the bar stopped what they were doing and looked up at me. These were all tough-looking dudes, all wearing leather and boots. They all just sat there, looking me up and down, for what seemed like an age. I started to get really nervous, thinking I must have walked into the wrong bar. Then one of them said, "Hey, man, you look just like Stevie Ray Vaughan!" Others grunted and nodded in agreement. Then he said, "Don't worry, that's a good thing." I thanked him and asked where the restroom was. I did have a black Stetson hat on with silver trim, but nothing as flashy or anything like SRV's hat here.

It was a blues outfit back then and I explored their early material a long time ago. The whole playing a guitar behind his back thing I've seen a few people do - and ELO's Hugh McDowell with a cello, of course. I'm an extremely talented and improvisational person too - just not with any musical instrument! Thanks for the early warning about "POLLLLLLL THURSDAY!" - it gave me a chance to turn the volume down to 12% and it really sounded like a normal person. For every problem there's always a solution! Ethan, you're getting a slight slap echo on your mics from the sound bouncing off that bare back wall. Putting up a drape behind you should help mute it.

When you were talking after the song there was a lot of echo from your mic Ethan

SRV was on another level. We lost him way too soon. And your audio is a bit funny on this one, lots of echo.

The son didn't blink once and Dad missed 50 % of the show trying to catch zzz's. Missing the visuals here on this one is a shame. I hope your rewind button works.

"Van Halen before there was Van Halen?" Well, *technically*, Van Halen came first -- Stevie Ray Vaughan didn't record "Texas Flood" until 1983, while Eddie Van Halen had already been doing his thing for several years by then. (Van Halen's "Eruption" came out in 1978). 🙂

Wasn’t Stevie recording studio stuff in 1971? -Ethan

@@fatherandsonreactions I believe there was a recording of Stevie then all of 15, in a recording called A Cast of Thousands but I don't know if it was an actual record. Someone else will probably know.
@ballyastrocade56722 жыл бұрын
@@fatherandsonreactions That. I'm not sure about, though it wouldn't surprise me if both men had been working as session musicians on other artists' recordings, or had been in and out of other bands, for several years before they made their "official" debuts with their first albums.

SRV is so much better a guitarist than Pete Townshend - lol - love you Larry !!! I saw him in 1985 opening up for Dire Straits during their Brothers in Arms tour - what a show ! By the way Mark Knopfler of Dire Straits is also a better guitarist than Pete 😛. If you put this in the KZbin search bar you can see the track listing for both bands for that concert: Dire Straits with SRV Live in Toronto, 1985

Maybe you should watch some live Zeppelin and watch the guy that Eddie learned from. I'm not taking anything from Eddie, but his technical abilities paled to Jimmy Page. And you're missing a lot of greats if that's your list. Hendrix was asked what it was like being the greatest guitar player. His response was; I don't know, you'll have to ask Johnny Winter. I think you have a lot more music to experience. Keep it up.

Thank you Scott. We have a playlist of all the Zeppelin songs we’ve done, I believe Black Dog, Immigrant Song, Trampled Under Foot, and a few more are on there -Ethan

Ok ...your son just used 'Van Halen' and SRV in the same sentence. Which is wrong on so many levels. You can use....Jimi...and SRV in the same sentence and get away with it. But not 'Van Halen'. Apologize. Now. In a comment below.
