It is not such an outlandish accusation. Aimbots can be turned on and off with a button press. I have seen it multiple times that the top scoring sniper with stock loadout and lvl 0 steam profile suddenly has terrible aim when being accused of cheating.

I wouldn't be surprised if this could be done in tf2 cheat clients as well. One thing I've learned from playing a lot of sniper, you learn to watch every part of your screen, including what you can only see out of the corner of your eye and people dont realize that is possible, forgetting that wider FoVs are possible. people often also forget headsets exist and that snipers sometimes can actually hear you and might have enough game sense to react to sounds. i swear the bots have just blinded tf2 gamers into thinking that any amount of decent aim or even simple game sense as a sniper is automatically aimbot/wallhacks/cheating as a whole

Bad players don't have the skill or game knowledge to determine if someone is cheating, because, they can't differentiate between someone who's cheating and someone who is just leagues better than them. So every player that does significantly better than them are dubbed cheaters. That's how I've rationalized it, anyway. Every game has these whiney players in it who can't seem to fathom that there are god-tier players, or just can't stand losing at all so they accuse everyone of cheating. -Walking into open areas where snipers are most likely keeping an eye on. -Movement that consists of pretending to walk on a balance beam (straight line). -Bunching up together so that a sniper is ensured to get at least a hit, often ending up headshotting cloaked spies. -Spies uncloaking directly behind the sniper, as if players aren't using headphones to hear them uncloak behind them. Game sense is probably one of the least practiced skills within any game, and it makes all the difference regardless of how good your aim is.

I could understand those comments if not for the fact Machina leaves very visible tracers and it has very distinct firing sound so you'd have to be both blind and deaf to conclude that this is cheating when a lot of those shots are misses. I kind of get the comparison between sniper main and cheater - against both it feels like there isn't much you can do aside from switching classes if there's a large skill gap. But that's a matchmaking issue.

Exactly what happened to this W+M1 on the enemy team once. I was playing on an alt in this occasion which is still 8 years old at this point, but I heard flames behind me so I flick backwards and pop this Pyroid twice with my FaN, killing him. That was all it took for him to call me a cheater (because apparently I snapped perfectly backwards and shot him instantly), and because my alt didn't have many cosmetics and I also was Casual level 1 still for some reason, they all assumed immediately I was cheating and votekicked me.

Honestly dude if I was fighting a cracked Machina Sniper with complaints on his profile that stayed completely silent yet taunted everyone that hackusated him, I'd probably think he's cheating, too. The unfortunate reality of modern TF2 is that closet cheaters and really strong Snipers are easy to confuse, and the only way to realistically defend yourself when you're accused is to act like a decent human being, which many cheaters simply fail to do. Doesn't help when the real cheaters are the ones kicking you, though! :(

The thing with sniper is that most people will not be able to see the shots you miss. Only those you land, and if someone gets headshot 5 times in a row by the same sniper, their ego tends to bruise, despite the 15 shots the sniper might have missed in between
