Very Helpful. Was heading out for "cold" water stem to fix dual faucet shower. Your easy to follow video instantly saved me the trip. My faucets are round and they do turn in the same direction💡💡 Truly appreciated your direct and concisely simple presentation. Thanks👏

I knew it. The home depot rep was wrong about my waltec taps. He said I needed a cold and hot cartridge even though I told him I owned round knobs that both turn the same way. Which is counter clockwise to open the taps to get water, or clockwise to close the valves. He didn't believe me and insisted I buy a hot and cold cartridge. He was wrong because I needed two hot cartridges. See, this is why you have to know your stuff or be a plumber. Or watch KZbin. :)

Is there a difference between hot and cold water washers?
@1jantheman16 жыл бұрын
Yes helped much. Of course after I went to Lowe's and got 2 cartridges and after I put them in I figured since it did not work (cold was opposite of what was needed) there had to be a difference between the hot and cold. Now the cartridges are neatly packed in plastic and have NO markings on which is which. Guess my 50/50 shot did not work so back to the store. Best bet as you say Bob is bring them with you and have the clerk open up all the packages he has to, to get it right. Thanks Bob.

Very helpful. I'm installing a knob handle and couldn't figure out why they were opening in the same direction (I'm use to handles opening in the opposite direction) Thought the seller gave us a wrong one by mistake.

Great video! All of your videos are good.. My shower has separate Hot & Cold water handles. It does not have a Tub. They have a handle that goes to one side, like a "T" handle with one side cut off. The hot water handle will spin 360 degrees without a positive "stop" so I have to really watch it when I turn it off or it will drip if not positioned in the off properly. The cold water has a positive stop on it. I have not idea who made them but I would like to replace them. What would have to be done to completely remove those old existing cartridges and replace them with Moen Cartridges? Or at least something that I know what is installed? Does everything have to be stripped down to the bare copper pipe on the inside to do that?

What bites about the whole thing is the only reason I had to replace them was because the grooves where the handles go were all chewed up and the handles kept slipping.
@1jantheman16 жыл бұрын
Follow up. I have American Standard and the cartridges are the same. What one needs to do to reverse direction is take off the clip and lift up brass ring and turn that to other end and put back together.

I have a pfister bathroom faucet and need a replacement stem on the hot side. There are two different part numbers for the hot water stem and cold water stem. Can I use the cold water stem part on the hot water side? I was told this was ok from Home Depot. I plan on using the Danco replacement part.. Model #9D0018597E (cold) because the hot water part was unavailable.. which is Model # 9D0018596E I was told I could use the cold water stem on the hot side. Is there no difference between the stems? The parts look the same from the Pictures online. Thank you for any help you can provide. I just found your video.
@BobsPlumbingVideos4 жыл бұрын
You can, but it won't open in the same direction. If a faucet round handles, both sides would take a hot stem. Open to the left, close to the right. If it has Lever handles, it would take the opposite stems. If you place a cold stem on the hot side you'll have to open it away from you rather than toward you.
@tikigyrl794 жыл бұрын
@@BobsPlumbingVideos I have not been able to find the hot side part anywhere. So two cold parts would be ok? The faucet has round handles.

I have to replace my brass ones and the only replacements I can find are ceramic. I don't see lines, but they are color coded. blue for cold and red for hot

That's correct, the ceramic versions are generally color coded! Thanks for checking out the video!

my problem is that I don't know what brand my stems are, much less which one within a brand. Like mugs shots, I'd have to look at hundreds of them in a catalog to find which one matches the one I have; hard to believe there is no web site that address this.

Thanks very much for this information. I have a question about the cartridges. Are the rings around them washers that stay on, or are they just to identify hot from cold & should be removed before installing - like the orange one here: i.ebayimg.com/images/g/PqsAAOSw~CVcogvo/s-l640.jpg One has just the orange ring and a white ring and the other has just the white ring. Maybe they messed up packaging and that's why I get a fine spray.
@BobsPlumbingVideos4 жыл бұрын
I'll assume those are aftermarket replacements? It looks to me like those gaskets need to be there. Place them onto the stem before you install them. They may have messed up with the colors/ quantities.
@mjazzguitar4 жыл бұрын
@@BobsPlumbingVideos Thanks for the quick reply. Yes, they were aftermarket. I took off the extra white ring on the hot cartridge. What really messed me up originally is all of a sudden I wasn't getting any water pressure and I thought I screwed up royally. It turned out the filter on the end of the faucet was clogged. I'm glad I saw another video addressing that. When I took that off it flowed normally and a bunch of rusty water came out of both hot and cold.
