I came across this. Let's give this gentleman some major credit for taking time to educate

Teacher, hah thats a new one :) Thanks for the compliments! Noise gates are actually one of the very few types of effects i havent built. The only advice i can give is in this video and my earlier video on fault diagnosing: DIY Guitar Pedal Tutorial 9: Fault Diagnosing. check around the board for odd looking voltages / solder bridges. It's a common fault. All the best!

Hi. Nice work on the vid. Do u have a vid on repairing an IC if it's bad after troubleshooting?

I have a ProCo Roadkill that stopped working yesterday and it’s driving me nuts. Power is fine, battery or mains, input and output jacks are snug and making contact when cables are inserted. The positive power lead looks to have an ugly solder where it first connects to the PCB (darker than the others and cloudy. Time to break out the Multimeter 😒 I love *fixing* pedals but I *hate* going on a goose chase. Wish me luck!

great video, I'm trying to solve the problem of my sansamp classic. There's a power coming, whenever i plug the tip of the PS to the pedal it generate a starting sound. but when i inserted it properly there is no sound coming out, and even its powered off.. the other chain signal is effected.. Not sure if its grounded or some other parts are broken.

Hey sensei!!! thanks a lot for the advice! guess it's the soldering then, because i have a lot to learn in that matter, this is my third project and still lack that skill but i promise i won't give up until it works! thanks again and when you make a noise gate please post it!

*+DIY Guitar Pedals I swapped the 3PDT on my EHX Small Clone and swapped the LED from blue to red. But now the pedal won't work, and the blue LED isn't turning on. Why is this happening and how do I fix it? Do I need to change the resistor for the blue LED?*

Thanks so much for posting these videos. I have a pedal in which I get no output. My reading on the ground on the circuit board goes to 0.1mv but no higher than that. Is it possible to get a reading of 0.1 for ground? Or does that potentially mean the effect signal is touching ground somewhere? Sorry for the noob question. I'm just trying to learn. Thank you.

Great video! Congratulations! I watched it looking for a possible solution to a defective pedal I have, but even though I couldnt find the answer, it was still pretty interesting to learn about other common issues. I would be most grateful if you could try and guess about my problem: the LED light goes on but all I get is the same dry signal in the amp, there IS output signal that sounds in the amp but without the effect. Thank you very much
@bobvines004 жыл бұрын
If the signal you get from the output is the same as what is at the input, maybe the (foot) switch has failed, effectively bypassing the effect circuit?

I have an old Ibanez metal Screamer that I had in storage for 30 years. It didn't work so I opened it up and it's super clean! I hooked it up to my 9 volts power supply and opened the back to get a reading on the +9 pcb jack mount pin coming and it's reading .02-.04 volts. I ordered a new pcb jack and foot switch. I stalled those and I'm still getting the same reading. What could it be? Shorting to ground somewhere? Any help would be great!

hey teacher!!! happy holidays and new year!!! well it's kind of late I guess. anyway I have a question : have you built a noise gate? i tried the one of tonepad but with no success, in fact it's really noisy! can you give me some advice about this project? thanks and i love your helpful tutorials!!!

Hi could I ask for some advice. I have a homemade kit for a tuberscreamer from Musikding. But sometimes when I rotate the knobs the sounds cuts out, usually at the extremes of the knob. it rasps and sounds like crap and then you turn again it works. Can you give me a general direction as I have no clue and know nothing about this ( I do have a multimeter which I bought this week) Any advice would be appreciated, cheers

Hi, I bought a box of pedals at the bootfair for £10 and every one works except the Behringer DR100 Reverb pedal. There doesn't appear to be any power getting through the board. I've checked the led and that seems ok. I'm suspecting that maybe it had the wrong power supply connected at some point and something has blown. I can't see anything obvious on the board but then it's all micro components. Can you give me any tips on what to look for please? My knowledge in this is limited and it has me foxed. Thanks Gary

What do you think could be wrong if the signal passes when the pedal is engaged, with no response to moving the pots and the LED lights. im thinking an ic could be toast? its a boss dd-3 (t) the newer version of the pedal thx!

Can you tell/show how to measure with multimeter a power consumption of a guitar pedal (mA) in order to use it better with power supply? Thanks!
@bobvines004 жыл бұрын
To measure current (amps) the power must go _through_ your meter. You'll need to break the power (battery?) input and put your meter probes at the break to measure what the pedal is using.

All 6 of my pedals went down at same time . I will get signal from guitar straight to amp and have checked every pedal individually and still nothing coming out of them any thought of what I can check or look for also all power to pedal is correct
@DiyguitarpedalsAu5 жыл бұрын
Did you plug the wrong voltage into your pedal chain? Pedals (usually) receive power even if they are not engage. You can have had AC voltage or a high DC voltage destroy some components inside each of the pedal. OR....your power supply is dead. Double check that with a battery. Hope that helps!
@brandonjones69875 жыл бұрын
DIY Guitar Pedals thank you for getting back to me . I had correct dc v into every pedal and just took my guitar into shop to see if I had a pickup problem I brought along another pedal I never have hooked up or on board and guitar work there into amp and the never use often pedal still didn’t work guess I need to dig some more thanks again

I have a DoD stereo chorus pedal the light come on but the effect doesn’t
@DiyguitarpedalsAu5 жыл бұрын
Hi Thomas, unfortunately that problem has a pretty wide scope. I would check the effect outside of the enclosure (if possible). Could be something on the effect pcb thats the cause. You can also check the offboard wires to make sure none have broken off. Possible to be the switch as well! The problem could really be many things :( Good luck

Is there a way to test my pcb before putting it into the enclosure? I have only the pcb complete at this point and I want to make sure before moving forward.
