Hi Mick, Excellent job! I'm happy to see it working. I must say, I was a bit worried you'll find something obvious straight away and get it fixed in 5 min while I spent hours trying to figure out what was wrong with it. I managed to get it apart right to the main board, tested the motor, switches, etc. That lid switch tested OK, but didn't think to check for loose connection between the plug and the board. I also wonder if I managed to break that opto sensor when poking around and the loose connection was the original fault. Looking forward to next videos. Thanks again, Piotr

I hope you enjoyed your coffee - you really deserve it. Personally I prefer my espresso machine because there is no waste plastic when I am done and it is so much cheaper per cup, but my Missus won't be budged from her Nespresso - though it is much simpler than this one. The design is made to make sure it's impossible to produce compatible caps. They had to invent this new brewing method with bar-coded capsules so you can't use 3rd party ones as with the standard Nespresso. And to be honest, I really don't like the coffee they make.

Designed by committee. I'd have put everything on one board. One microcontroller. Fewer screws for assembly. Fewer connectors. This is an example of poor design. Hi, great job! I bought one of these for last Christmas. I do enjoy the coffee with the creama it makes by spinning the coffee pod (6000rpm?). Since the coffee pods are quite expensive I bought a pod rebuild kit and now fill the previously used pods with my own coffee grind. I also have a Kurig machine and I believe the Nespresso machine does a better job of using all the coffee grounds to make the coffee. Anyway - a very complicated machine and you did a super job figuring it out , my hat is off to you!

I suspect the one and only original fault was the motor rotation sensor. The subsequent issues down to fragile connectors and pulling on the wires to remove them, compounded by the previous attempts at repair before you got it leaving the mechanism in an unknown state. Not knowing how the thing is supposed to function also made your life way harder. I have one of these so I know what it's supposed to do - always a huge advantage when fault-finding. 10/10 for persistence!!

Mick! You must have the patience of a saint! It reminds me of HP printers I encountered back in the 90’s! Over engineered and plastic catches used to drive me mad! Before that the machines had metal chassis like the big Canon’s 700,900,1100! Metal screws held the thing together! The HP printers were plastic panels with catches that would break after maybe removed 3 times! It was like a wrestling match to get the bloody things off! Then with the struggles the scanner optics would go off alignments as well as the lasers alignment! They weren’t cheap either - the bigger 😢machines were well over a £1000 and the technicians got all the flak from the customers about the cost of consumables- toner, drums etc! I was glad when the firm I was with stopped doing their contract! I think everything nowadays is going this plastic panels/catches!😂 Fraser

They are all plastic now with nylon gears! Lubricant only with silicone grease/oil ! Apparently hydrocarbons rot the nylon and they split? I have seen gears split in them ! They also use a lot of solenoid clutches as well in case of paper jams ! The clutch slips at a set torque to save gears / motors from burning up! This information was given to me from Canon! Apparently Canon make a lot of printers , fax m/c’s etc for HP! 😂Fraser

Every Nespresso coffee machine I have seen being repaired is terribly hard to disassemble and is horrendously complicated for the function they perform, they are the inkjet printer of the coffee machine world, that goes for the price of the pods too. I mean the engineering in these machines is impressive but it just seems like an engineers wet dream for a cup of coffee with repairability not even a consideration so will just end up as e-waste as soon as one of the many components fails. Thanks 👍I'm not sure if I would get one if these myself. I've seen quite a lot of videos where they are prone to leaking, and they are pretty complicated with expensive capsules! (Although you can get third party refill kits).

Got one of those, faulty. However problem is not with the movement but with the gasket on top, where you put the pods. It is leaky and the replacement can't be ordered anywhere. Nice vid.

No milk for the kitty? I'm frankly amazed by your determination and your detective skills... did you use only the multimeter for the diagnostic, no scope? Cheers for sharing your valuable knowledge!

Thanks 👍I did use the scope briefly when working out the pins on the control panel (that's how I knew what was clock and data) but those were only for the LEDs. I didn't record that bit, and I deleted a few bits from the video otherwise it would have been hours long! 😂😂😂

On my Keurig you typically need the water tank attached and filled with water. Otherwise it just flashes with an error. Haven't finished the video yet but all that plastic looks like quite a pain in the ass, Good job on hanging in there Mick

Cheers 👍Yes I've got a Bosch machine that errors without the water tank. I did check to see if this one had sensors for the water tank being installed and the waste capsule tank but it seems it doesn't for either of those.

A nightmare indeed! What a mechanical mess not to mention the device molding holding it all together. I expected you would need a coffee pod installed for it to work, surprised it didn't need one. Great repair, hope the coffee warranted the work. FWIW, nothing like an AeroPress coffee maker.

We used to have a pod machine but the prices of the pods just kept going up and up and it became very expensive so we invested in some cafetieres but my youngest kept dropping them and they weren't cheap so now we have one cafetiere left and I invested £8 in a 1970's Russell Hobbs Wedgewood coffee percolator with a matching milk jug which warms and froths the milk up and its an absolute trooper. I also invested in a cheap coffee grinder as beans are cheaper than grounds, 20 secs on the button, tip it into the perc's basket and let it do its funny noises and it stays hot unlike the cafetiere and doesn't get that bitterness at the bottom the cafetiere gets if its stood a bit. Ironically, the percolator was built in the factory alongside the hospital I was born in south London albeit a few years before, adding to that one of my prized multimeter's is a Cropico Normatest which was built in the factory other side and its build date is the same as me birth date so whilst me mum was giving it rizz and screaming like billy o, a chap was putting together my multimeter next door hehe
