Fauna and the "Never Punished" Elytra

It was a harrowing 3 hour adventure. Actually finds her first elytra (and dragon head) but her fears of dying on the way back come true. She had given up and thought she could never find her stuff in time but chat finally convinced her to go try and it all ended happily ever after. =)

This was on the same day Sana graduated AND my mom was in the hospital so I was already depressed and this pushed me into being devastated. Seeing her recover the Elytra made me feel a whole lot better.

@@Voldrim359 It's Minecraft water being wonky. If there isn't enough block to cover the water, it will flow in one direction

@@amspook Yeah if there's a lower altitude within range (8 blocks) of the water, it will prefer to flow down instead of spreading out.

If you ever have a similar moment, just know that items despawn 5 minutes after they've been dropped, but that timer also only runs while the chunk is loaded by a player, so you should be able to take your time.

She wasn't expecting the water to act that way, so got confused. Water turns to a line when near an edge. This kept the water from her items fortunately. She got the elytra and, maybe more importantly, bit of lessons on owning one Her other projects should be a lot easier now including getting other elytras! Could really use an ender chest too

It's interesting though how most minecraft players or just the hololive members don't understand that things don't despawn in unloaded chunks. Like, Minecraft wouldn't be able to function the way it is if everything you been to it's loaded at all times, that's too much data to process for the cpu.

You don't need to keep everything loaded to have a universal 5 minute despawn though, you just need a timestamp on the dropped items so that the game knows whether they should still be there when the chunk is next loaded. Fortunately it isn't done like that, it would be unnecessarily rough on players, but don't make the mistake of thinking that it couldn't be done.
