[Spoilers for Lakebed Cave]: She did test her hypothesis about the cave being quantum for a while there. She just got really unlucky and the game decided to not show her anything while she was actively paying attention.

But (Also spoilers here): But she made a more important hypothesis there in previous episodes, such hypothesis is precisely the rule of quantum entanglement. She didn't do anything to test it though. If you're able to formulate and try that hypothesis, you'll eventually get to the answer (I know of someone who discovered the rule of quantum entanglement in the tower inside the quantum moon without doing the cave and it was way later that he figured out why it worked).

She also likes the other extreme, where she formulates a hypothesis and accepts it immediately without testing. Like with the Gravity Cannon shuttles and the White Hole Station.

I've noticed that fear is what really mess you up while you're exploring. Some people miss a lot of lore early in the game because they're afraid of the ocean, or similar large bodies of water. In fauna's case, it's the claustrophobic feeling inside the caves. I solved it really early on because the deaths didn't bother me, I could just go back in the next loop and try again immediately. Anyway, the good thing about the base game is that you have a lot to explore if a certain aspect of the game bothers you, and you can go back to see what you missed whenever you feel confident enough to face them 😄

The first part of your sentence is a great thing, it's something I love when people do with OW. Like thinking of what might be, the speculation, showing off their thoughts and emotions in the game. It's absolutely fantastic. The second part is low key making me rage because Fauna is a very smart kirin and should try these things even if they scare her. Take chances, make mistakes, get messy

I spent a lot of time in this grove as well. I thought something would unlock or open or something if I found the "right" poem. I was taking pictures of the different poems to freeze them and explore around, etc. Kind of frustrating!

She's treating a "space shuttle" as a "shuttle bus". As in, she's assuming they travel between predetermined points, and aren't just catapulted straight at whatever.

This was a perfectly crafted filler episode. Fauna spends 20 minutes obsessing over the poem at the start and 10 minutes trying to explore the lakebed cave (most of which was spent either lost or hesitating to enter the cave because it's too scary). And the fact that the episode was bookended by Fauna messing around with the poems and then finding out that the poems were written as a joke by Gabbro? Chef's kiss, no notes, take it to the printer.

I think the original intention was to show that a quantum object manipulates its surroundings, with the poem rearranging being an obvious clue. The problem is people (myself included) try to read more into the poem itself.

Warning, 50 minutes of pain before progress is made. It is both fascinating and dreadful how Fauna will get invested in the places that won't lead to anthing, but instantly bounce off the places that will. Being unedited, it's pretty amazing how self-contained some of these episodes can be in following a mystery.

Are these actually quantum? I thought quantum rocks and cacti are further along the way. There are just narrow passages very easy to miss. I acutally tried myself recently I didn't find the way even if I knew it is here. They just made passageas near the rocks so that looks like a dead end actually isn't. And it's super confusing especially for people who's not easy to navigate.

@@zloyfet Nah these aren't the quantum rocks, the "testing" she did was going back and forth quickly between two passages to see if they moved. Nothing changed and she was looking for a reason to not be there, so she just left, something understandable considering her reaction to caves. She probably knows that the answer is down there, we'll just have to wait for when she feels brave enough to visit that death trap again 😅.

For a game as open-ended as Outer Wilds, it's impressive to me how organically these narrative beats produce themselves within an hour, especially the setup, the irony, the resolution of the poem mystery. SPOILER: This is a common thing to miss, but the third mask is actually connected to the probe launched from the orbital probe cannon. The mask collects the data gathered by the probe and then sends that to the ATP.

Fauna is pretty much at the point of Outer Wilds where she has found all of the obvious stuff in the game, and now has to put in effort to solve time based puzzles. Hopefully her upcoming trip to the Southern Observatory leads to Fauna either getting into the White Hole Station, or her noticing the trick on Brittle Hollow to get into the Tower of Quantum Knowledge.

somehow this episode still turned into pure content loved watching people getting super mad at turning away inches before several solutions, then it all turning into massive amounts of hype once gabbro was found. i also can totally understand fauna not wanting to return to the lakebed cave for now, i watched several playthroughs of the game to this day and im pretty sure every single one absolutely hated getting crushed in the cave and felt really uncomfortable by it.

I've gotta say, watching you dwell on a poem for 20+ mins where the Log tells you there's nothing left to explore, and then follow the directions of a ? exactly, discover a gameplay obstacle to overcome, and theorize that it could be a quantum test only to immediately dismiss it out of hand and give up after two tries and go back to placing her hopes in a Nomai ship she can't steer, followed by failing to remember how to get to a place she's already been... that's the maddening frustration of a Let's Play that I know and love At least we met Gabbro! Perfect way to end this episode. That's a guy who knows how to go with the flow

The gravity cannons are so funny. No thrusters on the shuttles, just a cannon that launches them in whatever direction the planet happens to be facing, hope you timed it right! It's so convoluted and inconvenient, the perfect mode of transport for the Nomai.
