As a scientist, hearing a popular internet personality say things like "our best models" and "it's just a popular theory because the math works out nice" and "you can never really prove something you just collect evidence to consider a theory probable" absolutely heals my soul. To hear science not necessarily described in detail, but at least depicted accurately in a way that simultaneously explains why the phrase "it's not a perfect science" is an oxymoron while also showing why you can and should trust the scientific method.

@@DaekoTan What's interesting is that scientists about a 130 years ago thought they were very close to that. Then Einstein came along and that went out the window. However, assuming we don't go extinct, we should eventually get to the point when we ran out of science, and everything is perfectly understood. Which is kind of interesting to think about. Science is investigating the unknown, and running out of unknown is a little unfathomable.

Fauna shows hints of a good educator. She starts with a presentation of the problem or the “gap” in knowledge, the proposed solution or theory, the general merits of the theory, the limitations of the peoposed theory, and finally the recommendations to push forward the theory. It’s deceivingly simplifed, but if this were a more formal educational setting, Fauna could legitimately handle the topic in an academic nature if she wanted to.

4:34, I can try to explain this one (I’m also a noob tho). Basically, quantum mechanics/particle physics says that every type of force is facilitated by a corresponding particle. (Light has photons, electricity has electrons, etc.) And this works for every single force, except gravity. If you try to fit “gravitons” into the established model, tiny balls of gravity interacting with each other on such a small scale would create tiny black holes everywhere. And that isn’t happening, so… String theory proposes that every particle is actually a vibrating string, and a graviton would be a string connected end-to-end in a loop. This effectively makes gravitons less dense, since it’s not a solid uniform shape anymore. And this apparently makes the math work out really well, and then you don’t get tiny black holes everywhere, which is cool. That’s how String Theory ties quantum mechanics and Einstein’s gravity together.

I would have to make a addition: Quantum mechanics is actually the description of the behavior of particles (doesn't describe what it is). Particles behave as a "wave" (in that we cannot deduce its position, only the probability of its position, which, likewise, its movement, so more specifically, its a probability wave). Check out the double slit experiment. Its the most basic way to visually understand quantum mechanics. In easier terms, relativity is deterministic, quantum theory is probabilistic. The reason why its hard to combine is because of the inherent contradictory nature of these aspects. String theory proposes a description of gravitons can can fit in with both general relativity and still matches quantum theory. How.... Most of it is a bunch of math (including probabilities) of course. Its literally using math math to explain math. There is no actual easy way to explain it. I mean, can you even imagine 11 dimensions? On paper, its just 11 variables. In reality its ??? And this isn't even including the different mathematical interpretations of string theory which are explained differently.

There are clips of Sana trying to explain string theory to Kronii, it s really funny since it completely went over her head. (and space and time talking about space and time lol) Ever since then I wished someone can to Sana about it XD Iirc what we teach in schools is special relativity. Einstein wasn't exactly right either, its just that his theory was refined by other scientists into a more comprehensive one. Somewhat same story with String theory, used to need 29 dimensions and predicted the Tachyon which goes faster then light, but was eventually refined to 11 dimensions and no tachyon, so it stands to reason that it can be refined again. Testing it is another issue alltogether still, putting humanity in another Planet X situation

Roughly the "notes" are what make up quantum forces in quantum science. You can also combine notes to make larger "chords" which just translates to bigger quantum particles. It's been a while since I've studied this so take this as just a rough idea.

What an amazing explanation, to be able to explain it "like I'm five" while also having attention on the game is quite a feat I think the only inaccuracy was at 2:05 - black holes do not have infinite mass

It boggles my mind (and is also hilarious) how she understands string theory and can explain it pretty well to the saplings, yet couldn't figure out how to launch off the anvil for half of this video (especially considering how much she'd done it before this point)

Lol, I mean, can you imagine trying to explain String theory well and play a game well? People are super bad at multitasking, I basically cannot talk and game at the same time, lol.
@IzuShiTei
@IzuShiTei Жыл бұрын
@@Chex_Mex yep, pretty sure this is her having a hard time multitasking, especially in this game. it's really hard to multitask unless you already did 100-200 run and the game is mostly muscle memory

One thing to help you out is to remember that String theory is an hypothesis, theory means that the hypotheis has been tested and has become gernerally accepted.It is strange they call it "theory" even though it should be called string hypothesis, though i guess colloquially it makes sense. Other than that great layman explanation! you got a sub from me! ^_^

I totally agree, it would be very difficult to use the basic scientific method and use experimentation to have data for this hypothesis.
