I was taught to never tell a family that their child "failed" the test, but that they did not pass and that it means that more testing is needed. Just my 2 cents worth. Thanks for posting.

I personally like using "reffered" instead of "failed"

OAEs are to check the functioning of the hair cells of the cochlea,, ABR for the Auditory nerve..both are important..see.- Cochlear hearingloss- is sensory HL, probz in aud nerve- neural HL...hence both r carried out

I wonder what are the benefits of doing all the other test over the simplified otoacoustics emissions test? That baby was so cute. God is good.

Otoacoustic testing just tells you if the cochlea is functioning. Auditory brainstem response (ABR) testing tells you if there's anything wrong with the whole nerve pathway to the brain. Even people with perfectly functional ears can be hard of hearing or deaf if the nerves don't connect to the brain right.

There is no need to test down to 20db NHL...30 db NHLis enough
