Hello Cellists,
Somber, expressive, beautiful, and full of French Romanticism, today’s masterclass is on Fauré’s “Élégie.” I’ll discuss using different fingerings for each statement of the opening subject, varying your shifts, using fast but narrow vibrato while playing ppp, and much more.
Please let me know if you have any comments and/or questions, I would love to hear from you. Thank you for watching!!

Thank you Inbal. I agree with Diego. Much as I appreciate the points you make my main problem is with the very fast part. Is it just a matter of repeating it over and over or is there a technique involved?

Really love your videos. I always make sure to have my students check in on your perspective. What do you think of no vibrato at all when the theme comes in the 3rd time, ppp?
@Inbalsegevcello
@Inbalsegevcello 6 жыл бұрын
Alan Amira thanks! I personally prefer adding at least a bit of vibrato, just to liven the sound in the ppp(-:

Inbal Segev thanks for replying! It’s very inspiring to follow your work. I’m a singer and conductor. I recently picked my cello up again after 33 years hibernation. 🙈 it’s amazing how much one can learn from the KZbin forum. Many thanks! / Sean Kelly
