For the leader stitch do I just follow the pattern- the first 8 beads of a a 6 bead circumference

Do you have to add the extra beads? For instance when beading on a pair of hoop earrings where it doesn’t come together? Can you just start out with the amount of beads needed?

Shae, got a question, when using reg. You say start from top to bottom, I tried but it doesn’t look like the pattern, was was wondering if I should start from the bottom ??

Mary Farnsworth , yes, if it isn’t a short pattern repeat or is more complicated (like flowers etc) then read the pattern bottom to top and right to left.

So that's the trick for reading the patterns. However, I have a question that I don't think you cover in this video. I don't understand why you use 2 extra beads to start the faux crochet technique. I understand 1 extra - it's for the step up at the beginning of each successive row. But that other extra bead doesn't make sense to me. Please advise.

You add 2 extra beads so that the beads shift/slant in the correct direction (to the left). If you only added one, the beads would shift/slant to the right.
