This polymer clay Sea Turtle is really a lot of fun to create! I love the end result as it looks just like ceramic! Create a pendant, a magnet, a brooch or just let this little cutie keep you company on your desk. I hope you enjoy creating her as much as I did!
Thanks for watching
Alison 💜

Hi! Thank you the turtle is lovely! To help manipulate your extruded clay into swirls use two tooth picks intead of fingers to start your swirl. I have arthritus and lost my fine motor skills and this helps with moving around tiny things.

For the texture on the back you could use the uv resin soap bubble technique, it is very simple to do and you could also use uv nail paint/gel etc instead. Beautiful beautiful turtle and the colors are Wow! Thankyou for sharing your talent and creativity. :)

I really love this, and I'm so excited because I think I can actually do it, I can't believe that! Thank you so so much for sharing. I love your UV resin tutorials, everything you make is always so creative & beautiful, but I almost never have the right supplies to make them. So I'm very happy to see another polymer clay video from you. And I don't have the Lucy Clay colorants, but I plan on just tinting some translucent liquid polyclay w/ different colors & using that instead. And other than that this tutorial requires very little supplies, other than clay of course, and that is so helpful! You said you would eventually make a tutorial using the Golden Interference paints, right? I'm really looking forward to that. I tried finding the DecoArt ones after your video but can not find them anywhere. I did get the Golden brand though & while they're absolutely beautiful they seem to look different than the DecoArt ones, like they're stronger or quite a bit more intense. And I tried making what you showed us w/ the DecoArt interference paints but with the Golden ones it just looked like a big messy jumble of colors, it didn't look anything like what you made which was disappointing. I think they're gorgeous though & would love to use them with polymer clay, I'm just not creative enough to come up with any ideas of my own! But anyway, thank you again for this awesome tutorial that I will be trying out later tonight
@ThinkingOutsideTheBox
@ThinkingOutsideTheBox 5 жыл бұрын
Jasmine Healey Thank you sooooo much! You most definitely can tint some clear liquid Sculpey too 😊 I will do a tutorial with the Golden Interference Paints, I just forgot lol So many ideas in my head it’s hard to keep them straight 😂 You can find the DecoArt Interference Paints here for a good price and reasonable shipping. Click this link and scroll down til you see them. www.dickblick.com/products/decoart-media-fluid-acrylics/ I like to switch back and forth from UV Resin and polymer clay...I might even start some beading vids soon too. One never knows what my brain will come up with next. I so enjoy creating and sharing. Thank you so much for your lovely comment. Happy creating! 💜💜

Another option for textures is to make your own texture sheet using craft foam sheets. Cut out the size you want, draw your pattern on with a pen, and cut out with X-acto knife or tiny scissors. Sona Grigoryan has a tutorial on her KZbin channel. Then you place the sheet on the clay, and roll over it with your roller. Another very cool video! I wanted to ask, does coating with UV resin decrease the flammable quality of polymer clay? I've always wanted to make an incense holder with polymer clay, but it lights up like a torch near fire.
@ThinkingOutsideTheBox
@ThinkingOutsideTheBox 5 жыл бұрын
EllenJB you cannot put resin near fire either. You can however place small metal or glass object in the area that you are burning the incense on the polymer clay.
@EllenJB
@EllenJB 5 жыл бұрын
@@ThinkingOutsideTheBox That is good to know. I've seen people make the incense holders out of the clay, and I know that polymer clay ignites really easily near a flame.

I believe you can purchase those sponge type textures online from a store called Towards Polymer Clay, or maybe it's 2wards Polymer Clay. I've never shopped from them before so I apologize that I don't even know the correct way to spell the name, but Samantha Burroughs has shown very similar textures in one of her videos & I believe that is where she said she purchased them from

I actually attempted this project. I had a lot of issues. Lol. First off, my clay was too soft and punching the hollow shell out was a disaster. After about an hour I got one perfect shell. I only had an oblong cutter so I had to taper one end. Firing and sanding went well, as well as the flippers. I glued them all on, including the decorations, and baked long and slow. After some touch up sanding, I pained my turtle with Plaid Metallic paints in turquoise, green and purple. When the paint was dried, I used mica powders to burnish and blend the colors, and tiny little black nail crystals for the eyes, which I did make lidded. She also has an open beak and instead of the pretty silver dots you made, I gave my turtle some barnacles. Haha. She is definitely more organic looking than I tried to make. I was shooting for something much closer to yours, but I guess she turned out the way she was supposed to. She is definitely not a replica of yours, so I’ll just say she was inspired by you. 😀. Thank you so much for the tutorial. I needed a challenge. I’ll post her on Instagram when she has her resin coating. ✌🏼AM

I love turtles and dimension. Awesome video! I have a love/hate relationship with the hollow technique thanks to my impatience. lol If I just took my time and practiced, I'm sure It would look better. The textures- I know the fine one is air conditioner filter. It's super cheap! I get it at pretty much any box store with a hardware dept, It's either in a roll or folded and branded Frost King I think it's like 15"x 24" and less than $2 depending on where you get it. You are right- I've looked at other filters like pond or aquarium for the courser ones and have yet to find one that would be worth it. But I've not looked hard for it at actual home stores.

What brand of clay are you using? I have only heard of baking the clay at 275 for 15 min. Otherwise it burns the clay. Didn't realize you can cook it multiple times for such a long period of time. Beautiful piece. Love how the turtle turned out. Thanks for sharing.

Spanky Madison Thank you 💜 If you’re oven is at a true 275 degrees you can bake Sculpey Premo as long as you want and many times if you’re adding more clay. At that temperature it will not burn. I bake for an hour no matter the thickness as it makes the clay stronger.

Another great video. Thank you so much. However, there is something missing and you knew I would have to remind you of that. LOL I'm having Pumpkin withdrawal. I used a piece of that rubber shelf liner that they use in RV's and wrapped it around my extruder and put rubber bands on top and bottom so I can hold it and extrude easier.

They are so pretty. If your right hand, why do you put your resin on your left side? I love watching your videos, they are so informative and creative.

I hooked my walnut hollow to a drill by cutting off the handle, and using a makins adapter. Walnut hollow doesn't make an adapter for a drill. Walnut hollow really is the best extruder just below Lucy clay. It is rough on the hands though.
