While not in the market for a resin printer right now your videos on these makes me think Heygears will be the maker of my next resin printer. I really don't care about the closed system, I am just much more interested in reliability and ease of use.

I agree as well, the more I see, the more I like it. I just don't understand how they are charging extra for the printer, and also for the resins. Fidelization is achieved by getting the hardware cheap, and the consumables expensive.. weird business strategy, but I'm guessing you are buying reliability and quality overall

@ronaldbell7429 when you trim the point, you are obviously trimming the context. As an example, do you think the PS5 is so cheap to manufacture? Do you think Nespresso coffee makers are really cutting quality as well? (Apple too does something similar) No to both cases, you purchase the product and spend money later as part of their "almost mandatory" subscription program in the form of subscription to online services, overpriced games or coffee capsules that taste like no others. That's the game. Don't milk your clients for what they will pay on day 0, create a brand they have to rely upon. By selling a $400 printer that can ONLY use their resins, which are literally overpriced (it is what it is), you are selling thousands of machines and tens of thousands of resin bottles they'll need. Sell a $1500 machine, and people will do their best to bypass the OEM resin and your monthly income as business will be $0.

A couple of concerns over the Heygears closed ecosystem, what happens if Heygears servers are down - zero zip slicing of files, and what happens if Heygrears decides to stop supporting the consumer market - no 'supported' resins as well as no new sliced files for the printer. I've seen what one click auto supports are like in several slicers and while some are better than others most end up placing supports right across details that then destroy that detail. It also seems they prefer to orientate the objects such that the surface we humans are interested in such a way as to cover that surface with supports. I realize that you can use a third party slicer to support models, export as a .STL file and then import that into the Heygears slicer, but that is not the click and print solution that Heygears is selling. Heygears slicer might be better at orientation and supports, but their slicer still appears to pick less than ideal orientations. Seems like a better solution would be to allow other slicers directly. And resins from third parties in a similar fashion as Bamboo does for filaments with their FDM printers.

You make great videos man. The price is right for these printers, and if people can’t figure out that you can use whatever resin you want with it then they probably shouldn’t be spending their money on it. I grabbed the entire package PRM and all using your code, no regrets. Buy once cry once and print professionally with ease. Also don’t feel like you need to respond to all the comments. It will drive you mad haha. I gave up a long time ago on my Dauntus Gaming channel.

If those RS compatible HeyGears resins are curable by other printers, I think it would be valuable for you to do the experiment of seeing what another printer can do with the HeyGears proprietary resin. Are the HeyGears settings obfuscated, or can you see what it uses for its own resins, and transfer those settings to another manufacturer's machine?

@FauxHammer Ross, I just received my Reflex RS printer. Using non heated resin vat tray at around 23deg C resin and using Hygears PAS10 resin, during my first two test prints the RS makes loud clunking noises as build plate descends towards screen just prior to next layers uv exposure. Sounds like two thuds like stepper motor missing steps. Max force shown is like -244N. This happens for about the first 13 layers when I printed the cones of calibration test exposure prints. After these initial layers this sound disappears. Loud fans sounds continue throughout the print. Do you experience such sounds when starting a print on RS when build plate moves for first few layers? Not when moving up but when moving down just before reaching bottom to expose next layer. Little noise and then two loud thuds / clunking sounds. Unsettling really. My Saturn 4 ultra does not even make such noises with its dumb “auto levelling”… I left question in blueprint studio for Heygears and they say max force is ok to -250N and sound is some magnets engaging or something? I don’t know sounds like crunchy stepper motor missing steps sound to me. I am considering to return this printer as sounds don’t really sound right to me. Sounds like something defective. I have not seen a single video online showing print start and sounds the RS machine makes.

I have never had such an adverse reaction to the proprietary resin system. I have gotten a lot of hate for saying they're good printers... Still wishing Heygears had a "pro" mode and gave us all the settings ;)
@Grave79
@Grave79 2 ай бұрын
"Pro" mode is buying another printer. The slicer determines print settings, support settings based on the resin you pick for the project. Everything is contingent on that. Once you try to get around that, all those features go out the window and you just turned it into a $1000 Elegoo. What's the point? I tried 3rd party resin and I found solidified slivers sitting at the bottom of the vat. It's a hacky mess. And when your 3rd party resin company decides to secretly change their formula or HeyGears makes slicer improvements that benefit their resin, you might be screwed. It's not worth it. If you want manual mode, go buy the already existing manual printer.

just a observation. So I noticed when you pour the resin on the top plate its filled with bubbles. It mentions to shake the resin bottle before use ! Doesn't this put bubbles in the resin which may be present when the UV is flashed. Could this introduce small cavities in the surface finish. Could you use a process like degassing when making carbon fiber parts etc. ( eg place the resin in a vacuum to pull the bubbles out ?
@topkekbieri
@topkekbieri 9 күн бұрын
Bubbles in the resin are nothing to be concerned with. They subside fast enough and don't pose ANY problem. If they did, they would also only be present on the first few layers (which is rafts and supports, as you shouldn't usually print anything flat on the build plate anyways) and at that point would lead to your print failing.

The advantage of the gate is supposed to be that the Reflex can more precisely control the resin level, and thus not always just fill the vat, but rather just add enough resin for the print, leaving the rest in the bottle. To me that sounds great, but I haven't tested it yet as I'm still waiting for me order to be shipped. This is what the company told me though: Resin Management: The Reflex RS uses a gravity-fed system to manage the resin filling. It does not have a built-in mechanism to measure the remaining resin in the bottle. The Reflex, on the other hand, features smart resin level control. It maintains a low resin level to ensure effective reflow and can weigh the remaining resin in the bottle, providing more precise resin management.

As I said, in one sense I had no business trying to get into this hobby when my mental restrictions are a massive drawback, but I want to be able to print single figures myself & then paint them. It's the painting I want to do most, the printer is the means to an end & your review on the HeyGears slicer thing, one click printing was the real pull thar made me buy this. @@philipgriffiths3106ok, well as a brief step by step… Set up your PC and install the blueprint desktop client. Then search online for files you like. Depending what you want to print you may want to get presupported files. If not there is some learning to do about orientation. You will typically get your model files in STL format. Just drag them into this slicer. (Blueprint) You will need to do some learning about orientation and you will need to support unsupported files because layers can’t print in mid air. I do have a guide on general printing, in fact I have a whole beginner playlist that walks you through printing on typical printers which this is not. But watching that playlist if all the videos should familiarise yourself with enough if the concepts to get you started. If you do get stuck, hit me up and I can point you in the right direction. @FauxHammer I'm so sorry Ross. I didn't get notification of this reply. Thank you so much for taking your time to post this. I've watched nearly all your videos over the last few months. To be honest, I practically binge watched them night & day! If I hadn't seen your video on the RS, dare I say also on Greedy 3d too, I would have bought your previous recommendation of the GKTWO. Literally as I was just about to buy it, you released your video on the RS & it took me 2 weeks to choose between the two printers. So I'll blame you for that bit 🤣. I bought & assembled racking today for a worktop area, set the RS heated vat up after watching their video, still trying to work out if there is actually a film on the glass as well as on both sides of the vat to remove. Set my pc up by the side of the printer, & was going to download blueprint but I was given the wrong cable from the unit to the monitor so hopefully sorting that out by end if weekend at the latest. Really greatful for your support. We have chatted on messenger & I was greatful for your reply on there, though I did send another question regarding wash & cure stations. If I'd gone with the GKTWO, I would have bought the full bundle but the RS bit into my budget & paying the extra for the heated vat on top made their bundle just too over what I could afford. Looked at a sunlu cure & an ultrasonic cleaner on amazon as I want to print bigger single models as opposed to warhammer type size. But also looked at the bigger wash & cure stations by anycubic & elegoo too. So undecided on which way to jump. But used a lot of your other recommendations like the silicone pet mat etc which are arriving in the next few days. Again thank you for taking time to help, I'm just so sorry I didn't see it until today to thank you

For the sake of using 3rd party resins it would be good to try and precisely time the exposure time it sets for each of their resins so you can have a list and start in the middle with a 3rd party resin and then go up or down the selection to adjust exposure (Gotta check if they are using different uv intensities between resins too) ALSO if you use a DIY heating system then you can adjust the exposure by the resin heat!!
@Grave79
@Grave79 2 ай бұрын
It's not just exposure time. It's also support settings, lift/retract speeds, etc. I mean, if you start a project with a specific resin choice, and then change it, the slicer will delete and recreate all the supports. Then all those print settings are modified on the fly based on how their resin reacts to environmental change. It seems unlikely you'll find an exact match. It's a hack that doesn't always work. I found the quality ends up worse that just using their resin. And I found slivers of hardened resin in the vat so I had to tank clean every time. Seriously people, stop trying to put a square peg in a round hole. There's very little benefit in buying such an expensive machine to use it against the way it's designed. Seriously Ross... I had to watch the whole video to make sure but not once did you mention the "Phone Home Or I Refuse To Work" slicer/print functionality, (or should I say lack of functionality)? There is ABSOLUTELY NO REASON why this should be REQUIRED! Either I own the printer and can print to it when and where I want, (internet be damned!), or I don't own the printer. I think this is more of an issue than the proprietary resin, (you make a very good point that the machine auto compensates for pull forces so I am guessing that takes care of a large source of print failures right there and people are already testing and reporting on success with others resins soo).

@@FauxHammer I don’t like the limits on third-party resins, I understand them machine’s curated with their resins in mind which I can respect, but they take away your ability to tune your machine to other resins even if you want to. And as 3-D printers, we know that the pray and hope method never really works out for us. Also forcing users to use their slicer, even though it currently doesn’t have an off-line mode is also a mistake. Not saying that anything will happen, but if the servers went down, you essentially have a brick with no type of functionality. I feel like a big part of 3-D printing is fine-tuning your experience how you want it as the consumer, but they’re forcing you to do things exactly how they’re telling you to do it with zero say in the matter.

Why is this so much better than the GK3?
@FauxHammer
@FauxHammer 2 ай бұрын
Hmmm, better is a very complex term. From a technical perspective as I intended the word. Just generally better tech and a lot more sensors. Doesn’t mean it is better for you. Gk3 is a large machine and print quality is good. But it’s comparatively a basic machine. Do you need a Gk3 ultra? Do you need the size. If not, Would a cheaper GK2 not be better for you? These are made more for the highest quality prints with the littlest effort. So if you want to learn the least about resin printing and pay the massive premium to get a more “just works” approach. Then that is what these are. So it’s often not so much about what is “better” it’s about use case. You need to decide what it is you want a printer for, what you want to print. And from there, choose the one that’s right for you.

But people seem to be treating me like I’m saying this is the only choice!? I’m not, far from it. Hardware wise it is by far the best printer available. That’s just a Fact. But the proprietary resin is a huge “but”. It’s for you to decide what you want and what you are willing to sacrifice to get it. Not me. I’m here to present things. And if I presented an anti HeyGears agenda, then I’m letting down the people who would choose this, I would then, be being biased towards the wants of the masses, rather than fair to the machine as it is presented to us. I call them as I’ve seen them, I’ve tried the anti-resin angle in my first HeyGears video, they aren’t budging, so this is what it is. At some point we have to accept that. I've seen it more than a few times on Reddit (a dangerous place) ppl asking questions about a printer and listing what they need and the options they're looking at and others referring to your videos as reasons to not get it, even though what they were originally looking at would've been more than sufficient. It's starting to feel like you become agitated that you have to lift a finger to make adjustments on other machines and when I read the reviews on other printers, ppl are complaining about very simple hiccups leaving bad reviews on good products for no reason, other than they had to lift a finger. The technology in this compared to the next makes this a “better and smarter” machine. But you are right, a faster car painted red with better components that is hand built. Is not a better car for someone who wants to transport their 5 kids around the country. But I surely can’t be responsible for people making bad choices.
