The Gaming Norwegian It's all in the RPMs. The higher the RPM the higher the exhaust back pressure the higher it spools (depending on the turbo size obviously). Imports have small cranks which let you rev higher so they depend on high RPM to create boost (stock usually at about 5k RPM). Domestic V8s top out about 6.5k/7k RPM so they use blowers/superchargers to boost throughout the RPM range. Unless a domestic V8 has upper end/head work done to withstand high RPM there's no reason to run a turbocharger ..unless it has an overdrive that lets you create boost in top gear, but even then it depends on what gearing you are running.
