Thanks for the comment, yeah the DD 4x4 is great, I think this will be my go to tarp for this year.
@Cetok016 ай бұрын
I have a DD 3x3, but that 4x4 is really huge! I'd be hesitant to set it up in very windy weather, and I'd certainly use 550 cord rather than my typical bank line if it were so. I'm thinking that the plow point (one of my favorites) could provide substantial ground cover also by folding in the wings and pegging the next grommets toward the rear anchor point. Two long poles could be used to help stretch out the folds.
@WalkTalkBrew6 ай бұрын
100% agree with you about the size and using strong cord in the wind. Yes, you could certainly get plenty of ground cover using the plough point as you suggested. I’ve done the same thing with the 3x3 to give me a small area to keep equipment off the floor. Thanks for the comment. 👍

Hello, nice to meet you. I am using the DD 3x3 tarp. It is very practical in terms of use, but it does not isolate the heat of the sun sufficiently. It does not have a separate reflective layer inside. You may sweat under it in the summer. Your use of tarp is very successful. you for sharing. It was a nice video. greetings
@WalkTalkBrew5 ай бұрын
Thanks for taking the time to watch the video and leave comment. Yeah, I agree about the DD tarps not insulating against the heat of the sun. I mostly camp in the woods so don't usually get the direct effect of the sun on me. Usually the tarp is used as a cover over a hammock or as a direct shelter when sleeping on the floor. Thanks again, Mike

Thank you for sharing - I am eager to get out there - I am curious about the longevity and ruggedness of DD tarps. Would you say they are a 3 or 4 season tarp? Have you or perhaps anyone in the comments ever experienced a failure? If so under what conditions? I see many really nice set ups BUT I would be more concerned about punctures using part of the tarp as a ground sheet- Thoughts? Experiences? I know I ask a lot
@WalkTalkBrew5 ай бұрын
I've used my 3x3 DD tarp for about two years now in all 4 seasons and have never had an issue with it. Now, in all honesty I've never used it in really windy conditions or during very heavy rain as I tend to mostly camp in the woods. I've used in configurations where it acts as a ground sheet and again have never had any issues with it. If you approach the laying of a ground sheet the same way you do as for a tent in that you clear the surface debris away you should be fine. I have seen people use them when they are attached to stone walls and obviously they will rip when being rubbed across stones. But any material we use for hiking, wild camping etc is going to be damaged if rubbed against stone. So, from my experience if they are used sensibly within the guidelines from DD and with a bit of common sense the DD Tarps are very good. One of the guys posted that his DD 4x4 tarp leaked in heavy rain. I've never had any leakage whilst under a tarp though. Hope that helps and thanks for the comment. 🙂

Did farmers use ploughs to plow the ground? I don't believe they did.
@WalkTalkBrew6 ай бұрын
lol… plow is how Americans spell plough. Plough is the spelling for plow in the UK. So, I suggest UK farmers did use a plough to plow the ground. 😂🏕️

I like how versatile tarps are Andy - there are so many things you can do with them. Out of one tarp you can create many different moods. I like the brown too. Good to hear of the online store. I've just checked it out. Some great tents there. Many thanks for sharing. Mark

Cheers Mark, I may end up doing another review of the 4x4 as i noticed a small hole near one of the middle tie out points. Need to take a closer look as I'd heard from a few people that the 4x4 would sometimes leak.

Good day sir . A tarp is a grand thing on a windless day. I think the best set up is when you can put the tarp on the ground and curl it up behind you and over the top creating a cave. . I have yet to see anyone do this with a tarp. Im guessing the reason people dont do this is that it might danage the tarp . From ny linited use of tarps . That was always my favourite set up . I could sleep in my chair by the fire . Tarps back in the day were cheap and strong but limited to only a few camps . Lovely spot for your set up

Hi Owen, I do really enjoy tarp camping tbh. So many options from a tarp that you don't get with a tent. Having done tent, hammock and tarp camping last year my overall best camps where in a tarp. The two semi enclosed tarp setups in the video do give you a ground sheet. The stealth shelter is my favourite from last year, protected from 3 sides and the ground. I 100% agree with you about the wind, we tried putting up a shelter two years back in the Sperrins 3/4 of the way up the side of a mountain in snow and wind and it was impossible!! Funny, looking back on it now. :-) We ended up binning the summit and heading down to lower ground to put a shelter up to get out of the conditions. Mike

The tarp does give you some great options. I only used a tent a few times last year, most of my wild camps last year were under a tarp. So much more versatile than a tent. Thanks for watching and the comment. Much appreciated. 👍

Just ordered this tarp in multicam (through Amazon) so am so glad to find your video here. Actually had to send the first 4x4 tarp back the day after it arrived because the stitching on the stuff sack was pulled out. Guess I could have sewn it back together myself, but figured for $100+ I shouldn’t have to. Sorry to hear from other viewers that the seams leak on the 4x4. Kind of counterintuitive for its intended purpose. And would be a real bummer since I bought the tarp to cover a leaky tent. 🤪I’ll stay positive though and look forward to recreating your suggested tarp configurations when the second one arrives. New viewer from Indiana, USA.

Thanks for the sub and taking the time to comment. I've had the DD 3x3 for nearly two years now and have never had a problem so am hopeful that the 4x4 will also be as good. The only issue I have with the 4x4 is that you have to fold it up to get it to fit in the stuff sack. Which, is counterintuitive as the website says not to fold them as it creates weak points in the fabric. I've mine stuffed in a dry sack now. It just quicker and easier to pack up than having to fold a large tarp especially if it's wet, windy or your in a rush. I much prefer tarp camping as it gives you so much more options on your setup.

Hello! Nice informative Video! At the last setup, if you use a 2meter pole Position it at the front corner peg and fix the tarp here, the both flaps will close the "door" at the foot of the pole! I hope you will understand my bad english😂 Have fun outside with this versatile setup...closed or open as shown...with tons of space🙏
