Awesome pick Pete. Chicago is one of those bands whose music always especially sounds great in the summer. 11) The Doors - Morrison Hotel Morrison Hotel is my favorite Doors album. It's another perfect record by an extraordinary and unique band - one of the most influential in Rock. This album is pure magic, full of Blues-Rock-Psychedelia, full of mystery and poetry. Jim Morrison, Robbie Krieger, Ray Manzarek and John Densmore created a unique, infinite universe, full of nuance and genius, which is still alive today. Morrison Hotel is raunchy, energetic and explosive. It's more Blues, less Pop, more darkness, more beauty. It is bar band music at its best and it remains a testament to one of Rock's most enduring bands. Favorite Tracks: "Roadhouse Blues" "Waiting For The Sun" "Peace Frog" "The Spy" "Maggie M'Gill" 1) Terry Reid - Seed Of Memory 2) The B-52s - S/T 3) Boz Scaggs - Silk Degrees 4) American Graffiti Soundtrack 5) Weezer - White Album 6) Eagles - Their Greatest Hits 1971-1975 7) Squeeze - Argybargy 8) Chuck Berry - The Great Twenty-Eight 9) Jimi Hendrix - Jimi Plays Monterey 10) Love - Forever Changes 11) The Doors - Morrison Hotel

Hi Pete. Dave here. Superb pick of yours, although I went with VII a few days ago. My pick today is MACHINE HEAD by DEEP PURPLE. Earlier today I was reading a 5 star review of Deep Purple at the Montreux Jazz Festival, over 50 years after their recording of Smoke On The Water there, about them witnessing the Casino burning down. It reminded me of a rail tour I took around Switzerland in the summer of 2017, stopping off in Montreux when the festival was on. Fantastic holiday, fantastic album.

Great pick, Pete - Chicago V! I am soooooo happy you give the Kath years love! My day #11 pick reminds me of Chicago, in that this band was equally as tight, and featured a woodwind section. I am talking about Loggins and Messina and their 1973 release - FULL SAIL. The title says it all, as does the cover. Perhaps the most underrated band of the '70s...So tight...Jim Messina, has great guitar tones, and proficient finger picker. There is arguably a little prog on FULL SAIL. ALBUMS WITH A SUMMER VIBE Day #10 - Servant - SWIMMING IN A HUMAN OCEAN Day #9 - The Moody Blues - STRANGE TIMES. Day #8 - Bow Wow Wow's WHEN THE GOING GETS TOUGH, THE TOUGH GET GOING. Day #7 - The Allman Brothers Band - BROTHERS AND SISTERS. ALBUMS PLAYED AND RELEASED IN SUMMER Day #6 - Van Halen - OU812 Day #5 - The Thompson Twins - INTO THE GAP Day #4 - The Fixx - REACH THE BEACH Day #3 - The Go Gos - TALK SHOW Day #2 - Crumbacher - ESCAPE FROM THE FALLEN PLANET Day #1 - The Motels - ALL FOUR ONE

Going to pick another well known one today. HIGHWAY TO HELL by of course AC/DC. This provided the big commercial breakthrough for the band even if Back In Black's sales would eventually dwarf it. Whilst Powerage is my personal favourite album from the band, this is the one I tend to play more in summer. Any social gathering round the barbie or patio and the title track comes on and almost guaranteed you'll have people singing along. Quite how enthusiastically will usually depend on how much of certain liquids have been consumed. This is pure good time music, perfect for summer, Bon, Angus, Malcolm, Cliff and Phil just wanting to entertain not preach and boy do they do that through the likes of Girls Got Rhythm, Walk All Over You, Touch Too Much, Beating Around The Bush, the amusing Shot Down In Flames (Bon was never afraid to poke fun at his own failures to successfully interact with the ladies), Get It Hot, If You Want Blood etc, Love Hungry Man and Night Prowler. Given expert production by Mutt Lange, before he seemed to become something of a studio meglomaniac, he managed to retain the essential character of the band whilst giving the instruments greater clarity and separation and a better balanced bottom end. He also brought out the best of them as both a team and individually. Another of my perfect crank it up summer albums.

For many of us Brits, what could be more summery than cricket? So today's pick is The Duckworth Lewis Method self-titled debut, a cricket-themed concept album by the duo of Neil Hannon (The Divine Cimedy) and Thomas Walsh (Pugwash). An incredibly enjoyable quirky, eccentric pop album, veering from jovial, almost music-hall ditties to some quite dreamy wistful songs.

Day 11 Awesome pick Pete My pick for today is: The Moody Blues “Live at the Red Rocks” 1992. (DVD) This Concert by the Moody Blues is a marvelous performance with all the music they played on this concert. The Colorado Symphony Orchestra played with them which made the music better. Justin Hayward and John Lodge with their wonderful voices. Ray Thomas also sings some of the songs in this concert. There is so many people in the Orchestra that I’m not going to even try listing them. This concert covers a lot of different albums by the Moody Blues. My Pick for Day #11 is Samantha Fish - Chills And Fever (2017) I discovered American Blues guitarist Samantha Fish on KZbin 2012 playing in her power trio performing Black Sabbath's War Pigs and I was blown away! then spent the next couple of hours watching her live performances and was hooked! within a couple of weeks I owned all her albums and single and DVD's up to date! and in 2017 saw the release of Chills And Fever an album of Blues, R&B and Louisiana jazz covers and was the Summer Soundtrack of 2017! Samantha's guitar playing is exquisite and she is an amazing vocalist in front of her powerful rhythm section augmented with electric piano and horn section on killer songs He Did It, Hello Stranger, It's Your Voodoo Working, Hurts All Gone and The Title Track! Her ballads Either Way I Lose and Nearer To You are just to die for! and my personal favorites Somebody's Always Trying, I'll Come Running Over and her killer slide guitar on Crow Jane! I saw her on this tour at the Stanhope House In Stanhope NJ, an amazing show and met her after the show ans she was the nicest person! posed for pictures and signed all my albums and CD's. Contains their major hit 'Venus' and the Eastern sounding 'Love Buzz' which gained popularity when Nirvana covered it. Nirvana's version is harder and faster, but the original is more trippy and the hypnotic drumming is awesome. There are some other great tracks: The instrumental 'Acka Rag', the americana of 'California here I Come' and the enchanting 'Long And Lonesome Road'. Good morning (afternoon, evening or night), Pete. Great choice today. Personal pick today? Headed out of the SoT ballpark to pick the ninth studio album released on June 3, 1977, on Island records by this Jamaican band, the great reggae album Exodus by Bob Marley & The Wailers. A lot of music fans, including the personal CD library, have Marley’s collected set of Legend. But for me, a little reggae goes a long way and this is the album to satisfy that warm weather musical itch. Likely one of the reggae genre’s best as well as the bands best known. A little more laid back here than some of Bob and the Wailers music. Bought the album originally because of hearing One Love/People Get Ready album closer somewhere down in the islands and have grown to really appreciate this. A must play for outside and includes the singles Exodus; Waiting in Vain; Jamming; Three Little Birds; and One Love/People Get Ready. Reggae may not be for everyone, but this album is tops for anyone interested in the genre. Always good listening down here in the heat of Florida and remembering the refrain from the album closer "Let's get together and feel all right." Thanks as always, Pete.

Dialogue is "THE STELLAR TUNE" off Chicago V. Edgar Varese was a French Composer born in the late 19th Century.Varese influenced many composers in the 20th century, everyone from Pierre Boulez to Frank Zappa. He passed in 1965 in NY. I don't know of any Percussion Ensemble at University that does not play Varese's piece Ionization. It's not as out there as John Cage's stuff, but it's a diversified piece written for 13 percussionists.

Hi everyone, well, today, I'm going back to that summer I spent in Paris in 1989 and another cassette I had on all the time as I strolled along the Champs Elysees (usually en route to the multi-storey Virgin Megastore!!) It's the fourth solo album by this legendary, much missed guitarist, and tragically the last to be released in his lifetime. I say solo, but really, this is a band project... SRV & DOUBLE TROUBLE "In Step" (Epic) If Pete ever does a topic of "Songs that open an album and you play them 10 times before you listen to the rest of it", then "The House Is Rockin'" from In Step HAS to be on that list! 2 minutes 24 seconds of blues rock nirvana... When you do finally stop listening to that song, you move on to Crossfire, another better which was to become his only #1 hit. From there on in, its SRV's traditional mix of originals and covers, with the occasional instrumental to break things up. Willie Dixon's Let Me Love You Baby, the killer groove of Wall of Denial, the short, sharp blast of Scratch 'n' Sniff and, finally, this album's 'cool down', the nearly 9 minutes of Riviera Paradise... Of course, Stevie and his Strat are the stars of the show, but major kudos to the rest of Double Trouble, Tommy Shannon on bass, Chris Layton on drums and Reese Wynans on keyboards. Great summer rock & roll, whichever village, town or city you're in...

Motley Crue-Dr. Feelgood. Released in 1989. It was Motley's five album. After recording three albums with Ted Nugent/Cheap Trick/Molly Hatchet producer Tom Werman, the band switched to Canadian Bob Rock. This album features guest vocal appearances by Night Ranger Jack Blades(Vince and Tommy had sang backing vocals on Night Ranger's third album), Steven Tyler, members of Skid Row, Robin and Rick from Cheap Trick, and Bryan Adams. Yes, that Bryan Adams. Slice Of Your Pie features a vocal intro by Steven Tyler of Aerosmith. Rattlesnake Shake is a r&b-styled rocker with horns. It's a variation of the horn section that appeared on such Aerosmith songs as Rag Doll and Love In An Elevator. Kickstart My Heart, which is about bassist/main songwriter Nikki Sixx cheating death, has a talk box solo by guitarist Mick Mars. Without You, which is a power ballad about drummer Tommy Lee's relationship with Heather Locklear, features Mick on lap steel guitar. The album ends with Time For Change, which has Nikki on piano and organ, and Bob Rock on bass. Their various friends(including Skid Row) make up a sort of choir.

Blondie - Blondie (Chrysalis, 1976) Blondie's debut is kind of underrated. Because of how overplayed later singles are, this one sounds more fresh to me, invoking summer fun via Brill Building girl group pop and surf rock. It takes the pop culture trash left behind by New York Dolls' Too Much Too Soon (1974) and The Dictators' Go Girl Crazy (1975) and make something new (wave) out of it.

So far my list has been 1. Fair Warning-Van Halen. 2. Van Halen-Van Halen. 3. Live-Robin Trower. 4. Electric Ladyland-The Jimi Hendrix Experience. 5. Double Live Gonzo-Ted Nugent. 6. Made In Japan-Deep Purple. 7. Strangers In The Night-UFO. 8. Surfing With The Aĺien-Joe Satriani. 9. A Farewell To Kings-Rush. 10. Montrose-Montrose. For today's pick it's Lynch Mob-Lynch Mob. I'm not as big a fan of Wicked Sensation album because Oni Logan's vocals aren't as strong as Robert Mason's and there are more great songs on this album. My favorites being Tangled In The Web, Dream Until Tomorrow, Jungle Of Love, Heaven Is Waiting, I Want It, When Darkness Calls & The Secret. I wish this lineup of the band did more albums cuz I love this album more than any other George Lynch album and the vocals were the difference. This album feels like the summer of 1992 to me.

My pick for today: Traveling Wilburys-Vol. 1. As good a supergroup as you'll find; George Harrison, Bob Dylan, Roy Orbison. Tom Petty and Jeff Lynne. Doesn't get better than that.
