A long life, and a happy one. A good wife, and an honest one. A good death, and a swift one. A strong drink, and another one!

One I heard from an Irish musician in a bar several years ago: Here's to Eve, mother of our race. Who wore a fig leaf in just the right place. And here's to Adam, father of us all. Who was Johnny on the spot when the leaves began to fall. 🤣

I got this from a friend and really like it: Here's to friends, and to family; to those who are both; and to those who are in between; and to those who don't care to know the difference.

May you never lie, cheat, steal, or drink. But if you must lie, lie with the one you love. If you must cheat, cheat death. If you must steal, steal time for the things that matter. And if you must drink... drink with us!

ok, completely out of left field (and possibly a stupid question), but... how exactly does one ride in a saddle while wearing a kilt? do you sit on the pleats? or sit on... well.. nothing?

This one I heard at the Texas Renaissance Festival. "You should never lie, steal or cheat; but if you're going to lie, lie for a friend. If you're going to steal, steal a heart. And if you're going to cheat... CHEAT DEATH!

We used to know a wonderful older Scottish gent who would attend family Christmas lunches when I was little. He always gave this beautiful toast. I think it may have been Robbie Burns who wrote but I’m not sure… “May the best ye've ever seen Be the worst ye'll ever see May a moose ne'er leave yer girnal Wi' a tear drap in his e'e May ye aye keep hale an' he'rty Till ye're auld eneuch tae dee May ye aye be jist as happy As we wish ye aye tae be” I gave the English version at my brother’s wedding earlier this year: “May the best you have ever seen Be the worst you will ever see May a mouse never leave your girnal With a tear drop in his eye May you always keep hale and hearty Till you are old enough to die May you always be just as happy As we wish you always to be”

*May the roof above us never fall in and may the friends gathered below it never fall out. *May you be in Heaven half an hour before the devil even knows your dead. *May the road rise up to met you. May the wind be always at your back. May the sun shine warn upon your face. May the rains fall softly on your fields. Until we meet again may god hold you in the palm of his hand. * There are many good reasons for drinking. One has just entered my head. If a man doesn't drink when he's living, how the hell can he drink when he's dead? *An Irishman (Scotsman) is never drunk as long as he can hold onto a single blade of grass to keep from falling off the earth. (last one from me) *When we drink, we get drunk. When we get drunk we fall asleep. When we fall asleep, we commit no sin. When we commit no sin, we go to heaven. So, lets get drunk and go to heaven.
