Absolutely brilliant video. The most coherent and informative I’ve watched in a while. Everything you said just makes good sense and the colour choices are spot on. So true about a limited palette and learning your colours. Think we all get caught up in the full set of the popular brand/s and then it all becomes overwhelming and we don’t use our supplies. Thank you for such a straightforward honest video.

Thank you for sharing your favorite colors in your favorite médiums! In return, here are some of my tricks: 1. In order to have my lights light enough and my darks dark enough I use a red acétate sheet. When it is placed over your painting/drawing, you will be able to adjust your art. 2. Mr Net white blocks: Use it to clean your palettes; use it to remove color on a dry Watercolor paper. 3. In order to be mixing nice colors, use single pigment color. The best earth tones are made with PBR7, etc. Or you will have a mud color. I will be adding more!

Hi Sandi! This is my first to watch video on your channel. I came here from a yarney craft channel ( ollie&Bella) I stoped painting last year. after a series of pre-monitory paintings in 2019 ( when all my paintings were like "the sh will hitt the fan" kind of paintings all dark and weird that only now are making sense to me and my family) I realised I have no desire to paint again. Now, I just see you spreading paint on paper and makes me "drool". I have no "studio". My big bucks easel is now in a corner of my bedroom, all paints suffocating each other in a few drawers and boxes. The art school I was attending has no exhibits nowadays for the public, people are not happy. There are no student sales any more; in other words it sucks big time. I like your sketchbooks and your paintings on them. You seam to have a happy spirit. Keep it sparkling! Thank you for the video! It might be what I needed. Cheers from Texas!

Texas - well, I can say y’all then and you’ll full get me! Catalina - no need for a studio! My kitchen table was my studio for forever!!! Use this time to work in a sketchbook and just enjoy creating! Watch my ‘How to loosen up your art video’ - i share a lot about how you think about creating in that and is helpful no matter what style you paint. Hope you can find some inspiration here! Thanks for sharing!

@sandihester3 жыл бұрын
Hey Lisa - WELCOME!!!! So happy to have you here! Wellllll, I keep meaning to do a whole video all about Flashe but I just haven't gotten around to it yet. Great post Sandi! Lovely to see all your favourites - VERY similar to my own. Do you get frustrated with Gouache drying to quickly? I'm doing an online course (with the wonderful Lena Rivo!) and am loving it but it drives me crazy how quickly they dry! LOVE that painting over your right shoulder (geranium, tomatoes, coffee etc.). Love the shadows in it - am struggling with them too at the moment - aarrgghh! Hope you're well xx
@sandihester4 жыл бұрын
So glad you enjoyed it! That's a great opportunity to do that with Lena!!! Let eek now how it goes. I don't think the drying of gouache bothers me because I know that it's going to do that - you know?! My tips for shadows: keep color in them, sometimes the problem is that you are going too dark and sometimes its that they're too light (not talking you personally - just saying in general), if you're using a medium like oil then it can help to make them transparent while making the stuff in light thicker and less transparent. I learned everything I know about painting light and dark from peggi kroll roberts - she's a master and GREAT teacher!
@AuntDahlia14 жыл бұрын

unfortunately I don't and that's why I JUST purchased as large set of the Caran D Ache wax pastels and I'm loving them - testing them though to see how much they transfer. I'll be showing them in my next art haul video and then I'm going to do a full review of them because so a far I'm loving them!!! You can put a sheet of like wax paper between the oil pastel sketches and that works well. I have also been spraying them with hairspray and that helps them not transfer as much.
