I’m so excited for the class in January…Give us hints! I am so sorry about the editing being so much work. That’s what keeps me from doing a channel…..I don’t know how you do it and still find time to paint and have a life lol…thank you so much for these videos! We are all so blessed to have you.

@sandihester Looks like a landscape painter's dream trip, glad you had a great b-day, Sandi! side note, what brand is your new-ish big easel, and do you want to mention it in a video for those of us on the big-easel lookout?

This was a fun video Sandi and I loved seeing the looseness and textures you are achieving and developing. I hope you don’t mind me suggesting two artists whom I also watch on you tube that I’ve wondered for awhile if you would like to see their work- both paint very loosely with an obvious solid foundation of experience and learning behind them. For myself the three of you are covering a lot of bases for me (an experienced artist very much still learning). Christina Kent Art - I’ve learnt a lot from her, she’s very considered and thoughtful in her approach to her work. And Elena Burcio - whose whole approach and artwork for me is just exquisite and sublime. I find her looseness incredible. For me, your work Sandi is also exquisite and sublime - I get so excited by the combination of the three of you for me - perfection ! I want to thank you (& Grady 😊) for all the videos you’ve worked hard to put up for us this year, I love love love them 😍 and I wish you both a lovely festive Christmas🌲. Elena Burcio and Christina Kent Art

Hi Sandi…. Firstly, belated happy birthday 🎉. A while back you mentioned you were creating a Gelli plate class? How is that going? I’m really chomping at the bit to learn more ❤. Wishing you and Grady a wonderful joyful happy Christmas and all the very best for 2025. Thank you so much for all you do.

Sandi, Bob Burridge uses a product called skin safer barrier cream to keep paints from absorbing into your skin. Just thought id mention that if you are concerned. He uses it when hes acrylic painting.

I only just saw this video this morning, and it has really inspired me to try portrait painting. All your self-portraits contain small parts of you, which was fascinating to see. Your own favourite, with big pink glasses, has really captured your gaze and focus ..maybe it's the glasses! but it's all in the mouth, as you look at your subject so intently. Thank you Sandi. This video is literally a revelation.

I'm at the point where I'm thinking why do we even bother with brushes when God gave us fingers?! Loved this.

I personally will stick to my brushes! lol Watercolor artist here…. My preferred medium for years now! Sandi, there are so many wonderful products that can be mixed with your watercolors also to achieve really unique effects! Everything from iridescent watercolor mediums to granulating medium, even texture mediums! It might interest you to take a look! I use various brush sizes and can get super loose. I prefer the travel watercolor brushes made from real animal fur. Once I gave up my aqua brushes (that hold water), and those plastic bristles ….. it completely changed my art. Happy painting!

I really wish I could join in on this, but I have Lupus and rheumatoid arthritis. For anyone with autoimmune conditions, I’d advise against it, as our skin absorbs everything we come into contact with, which can trigger an immune response. Adding in toxic pigments can lead to flare-ups, too. I usually try to use gloves, but honestly, they don’t provide the same textures. Just a little tip for those in a similar boat! Anyone in the same situation have suggestions?

if it's for a sketchbook, there are tons of kids watercolors available that are beautiful and can be handled safely.

I was wondering if those silicone-tip brushes might work. They're sold for acrylics I think, but theyre sort of like a rubbery fingertip. I really like the look of the technique but I also like painting with heavy metal paints like cadmiums and cobalts which are definitely a little too toxic for me to feel comfortable sticking my fingers in, plus my joints get sore using my fingertips, so I think after a few smushes onto the page I'd be having a bad time. But I'm very tempted to try a silicone brush to see if it gives that finger painted feel.
@gingerblueКүн бұрын
@rollo.q the only problem is they are made to resist water (the silicone) so getting watercolor paint to stick to them is hard. It beads up. Maybe a very hard cosmetics sponge? They are made to take foundation/liquids a little but not absorb too much, like one of those beauty blender things.
@rollo.qКүн бұрын
@gingerblue oh that's a shame. Thanks though, that saves me some disappointment! Good idea about the make up sponges though. And they might have that nice marker texture like using a finger too.
@gingerblueКүн бұрын
@rollo.q and you can get them all shapes and sizes and tapered tips these days, too... I'll have to check them out myself! I hope they work for you! I have a (currently being diagnosed) auto-immune so I need to start thinking about how to create in more accessible and healthy ways, as well. Lots of hand pain.

I met a huge "artist", name VALERY KONIVIN, and was "amazed" how he portrayed CLEOPATRA in just a small painting, which was pretty much like yours, and this artist studied at the universities all over the world!!! I was then "wondering" why...but, I understood now!!! Keep on doing the best works, darling!!!TFS

Hello Sandi, Thank you so much for taking us along with you on your artist journey!! I'm an artist too and there's been so much that I've learned from you the past couple of years I've been watching you... In particular, the information about "value/composition" in a painting, I totally forgot about or maybe, honestly, dismissed it while learning about it the first time... :) It's usually when I've gotten stuck or am feeling frustrated about where my painting is (at that moment) that I step back and then realize its a "value" thing... yayee! I always love seeing what you're creating in your sketchbooks... I usually have to go paint after I watch your videos! Thank you for always providing inspirational content! 🥰 -- Kari J

Sandi, If you like texture maybe you should try a few super granulating watercolours. I really like the Schmenke sets like Tundra, Forest, Shire, Glacier, Galaxy , Desert and Deep sea. Depending on where you purchase them, you can also buy the colours seperately.
