Hi Tom: Late to the party again; as a result, some of my favorites were already mentioned. But, what the heck, let's mention them again! "This Wheel's on Fire:" Julie Driscoll with Brian Auger and The Trinity. "It's All Over Now, Baby Blue:" The Chocolate Watchband. "It Ain't Me, Babe:" Johnny Cash. "Mr. Jones" (Ballad of a Thin Man): The Grass Roots. It's like peanut butter on a hamburger. Don't knock it till you've tried it. "Blowin' in the Wind:" Robert Hazard and The Heroes. Different. I agree completely with "You Ain't Goin' Nowhere," "Nothing Was Delivered," "My Back Pages" and "Chimes of Freedom" by The Byrds!!! Tremendous tracks all! Great topic Tom - and great picks!

Hey........ Nice to see a mention of Dylan covers (they go on forever). I agree with that Rod the mod does a soulful cover of Only A Hobo.... he takes it to a different level. Good to see you you included .. Open the Door Homer by Thunderclap N. One lp that doesn't get much attention is... Lo & Behold by Coulson Dean Mc Guinness Flint. It's a Manfred Mann produced album from 1972. What is different about it is the arrangements of Dylan songs that utilize an array of instruments, such as banjo on... Open the Door H. (Richard) and it works. Most choices on the album are from early Dylan but they also include the songs from the... Basement Tapes era..... Highlights are... Lo & Behold... Death/Emmett Till... Eternal Circle.... and... Lay down your weary Tune. Worth checking out! Thanks.... Cheers!

OK, this will be another long comment from me, because about 15 years ago I set out to put together a mix CD of Highway 61 Revisited made up of only cover versions. It doesn't mess with any other albums, which is fine because you, Tom, barely touched that record (there's one overlap with your favs). I did throw in three bonus covers of H61R-era songs that could have easily been on it. So, here is... Highway 61 Revisited, Revisited 01 - Jimi Hendrix Experience - Like A Rolling Stone 02 - Richie Havens -Tombstone Blues 03 - The Winkies - It Takes A Lot To Laugh, It Takes A Train To Cry 04 - Mike Wilhelm - From A Buick 6 05 - Williard Grant Conspiracy - Ballad Of A Thin Man 06 - Mojave 3 - Queen Jane, Approximately 07 - Johnny Winter - Highway 61 Revisited 08 - Bryan Ferry - Just Like Tom Thumb's Blues 09 - Robyn Hitchcock - Desolation Row 10 - X - Positively 4th Street 11 - The Hold Steady - Can You Please Crawl Out Your Window 12 - Thurston Moore - Sitting On A Barbed Wire Fence And there you have it. Some of these were hard to track down -- the Richie Havens version of "Tombstone Blues" was the only cover of the song I could find -- fortunately, I liked it a lot. Bryan Ferry did a whole album of Dylan covers -- he almost got bumped by Neil Young, but Neil had the nerve to change some of Dylan's words.
