Excellent picks! As a trumpet player and a huge Freddie fan I’m embarrassed to say I’ve never heard of that record. I’ll have to check it out.

I purposely left out the AP 45RPM KO BLUE and Blue Trane---both exceptional, but at least KOB way over released. Blue Trane sounds really great and I love the alternate tracks in the stereo edition. Love your channel too... still lots to learn!-JG

Nice selection there, Jack. I have the original UK pressing of 'Blues in Orbit' on Philips. Talking of skips; I have an original pressing of Traffic's second album which I bought online. Unfortunately, a mouse had eaten part of the sleeve and its little tooth hit the edge of the vinyl causing a skip. Not something that happens every day. All the best in 2023.

Those are solid reissues but don't forget that jazz is still evolving as a living breathing music and there are countless players in their prime right now putting out exciting records. In my opinion no reissue was noteworthy enough to belong on a top 10 or even top 20 list for 2022.
@Jackgrahamphotograph2 жыл бұрын
point well taken...My thoughts on reissues are mainly that for some folks who may not know about some of the players, or the reissues are the more readily available. I buy ones that replace some very worn OG's or even some new titles I may have missed and never purchased. Many times OG's sound better than the reissue but at a premium price. As far as some current players, correct there are many ...many really creative musicians around. Your note has inspired me to dig into some which I intend to in 2023. Since I title my channel "Straight Talk" I'll admmit that too many of folks my age dwell on the great players of the recent past, and even way further back, all well deserved.....however we often neglect many current musicians more than we should. I am as guilty of this as anyone. Thank you for your note and pertinent comment. Have a great 2023... here's to the future evolvement of the music.... Regards, Jack

As I would count myself still as a newbie geting more into jazz the past 2 years I still found some noteworthy stuff. Howard McGhee Dusty Blue Was definetely one of them, alongside Lou Donaldson Bliueswalk, Amazing Bud Powell and Milt Jackson, not to forget Bluetrain.
@adamczerepinski2 жыл бұрын
@@KS-yy2fu It's great that they re-issued Bluetrain yet again and it will always be new to some listeners. However, high quality issues of Bluetrain have always been available throughout my whole life. An additional re-release isn't noteworthy in the same way that brand new records by musicians in their prime are.

The problem with saying that is the obvious-most people would, quite rightly, rather hear Ben Webster than Joe Chops who just graduated from Berklee with his derivative sound and “style”. The Cult of the New is death to any art form-you see it in architecture, sculpture, poetry, free jazz/atonal concert music, etc. Of course there are plenty of young, talented players out there. But the greatest artists in any art form have both performed at the highest level of skill and reached the public. Few contemporary jazz players, like their brothers in other art forms, meet this test.

Maybe you should do your own channel. He has a lot of knowledge and is one of the better jazz channels out there. Every other line isn't something political like another jazz youtuber. He's not trying to push and pedal his wares. He also talks about the music and his experiences when a majority of channels are devoted to one-upmanship. Some of the most devoted youtubers have literally been made a fool with obsessions about pressings only to reverse themselves in a week when truthful manufacturing processes are uncovered. We'll see how you do when your his age.

Jack, thanks again for your great videos, explanations, presentations etc you do !!!! But I have to say that the Contemporary's reissues sound very dissapointed if you compare to the originals or the reissues from the 70's or the 80's, from the the USA or Japan ... I don't know what they did but I'm really PISSSSSSSSSSSSEDDDDDDDDDD OFFFFFFFFFFFFF about those reissues. They fucked up all the way. About Columbia Duke's Blues in Orbit, same thing, I'll never buy this new edition if you compare to the original or the japanese editions or the 70's french edition .... Same for Picture Of Health .... I don't know what's happening about those new editions but they don't edit it the right way at all, I'm really piiiissssssssssedddd offfff !!! But it's just my way and ears ... About Bill's You Must Believe,,,, , this is a very good reissue but not as good as the japanese, again to my ears .... But if this is the way to people to discover those masterpieces, OK, this is great. If they discover because they are new to discover to them, top. Of not, please, stay with the old analogue editions !! I really LOVE your videos , you're the MAN, Man !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
@Jackgrahamphotograph2 жыл бұрын
JM--Thanks for the comment. And I kind of agree with you. My dilemma is that most of these reissues are better than the copies I have(OG) so in that respect they are acceptable. If you go back and listen to my video (#15) I discuss the difference I found in the new Pepper +11 vs a 1961Conrtemporary copy. Maybe the original master tapes are loosing their pizzaz... who knows. But at least, as you say the music is getting to folks who re perhaps enjoying it for the first time. I just played a new purchase of Miles's Four and more from Japan...It's killer sounding and better than anything else I have heard. I wore out my OG!!) Have a great Xmas and 2023. It's an honor to have you listening to my thoughts. Regards, jack
