It really is a remarkable-looking game, simple in hindsight but absolutely charming and perfect for me and my friend to co-op play at our not-so-advanced age. The differences in campaigns, the whimsy and catchy music, and the shark boss that's still scary, I don't care how old I get. All that and Donald and Mickey really play and feel like their characters thanks to all the wonderful animation touches... Definitely one of the best licensed games, really need a relaunch or to be made available somehow. Unless it already is, somewhere?
@maroon92732 жыл бұрын
@Jared Juggernaut the best game out of the series.
@goranisacson25022 жыл бұрын
@Jared Juggernaut I think that it's like... a platforming adventure game you can play co-op in really is part of the magic. Sure, I played Contra (or Super Probotector, EU and all) and Turtles in Time and Sunset Riders with siblings and friends, but the aggressive action of those kind of games felt different than World of Illusion. Maybe it's that you really help each other, and don't just fight enemies? And Donald and Mickey have ways to interact with each other, most other co-op games of the time feels like you're just separate islands that don't really interact with each other. So gorgeous graphics with great animations along with gameplay actions that really sell the "you're working TOGETHER" theme, I wonder if that's what really makes it stick in my mind. Perhaps my experience would've been very different if I had just played it solo.
@playitloud81122 жыл бұрын
@@goranisacson2502 Absolutely, the co-op mechanism was outstanding. The animations when the characters were on top of each other, climbing ropes or Mickey pulling Donald through tight spots. Brilliant! One of the best two player adventures ever in my opinion. I had forgotten that shark boss... Yikes, he was scary to a little kid like me! 😁

Total agreement with Streets of Rage 2. I thought you might mention it here. I love these videos, man! I always look forward to your content! In Contra Hardcorps, my absolute favorite stage is the one where the ending is Colonel Bahamut escaping in a helicopter where it turns out the alien DNA is a fast mutating virus that infects everything around it. I love all the setpieces in that stage with the foreboding music and the infected soldiers transforming into monsters and eating each other, and the references to the other final stages in previous Contra games but with a different spin because the bigger enemies are implied to be mutated from infected humans the deeper into the stage you go, culminating in a battle with a big alien queen with a weird human face. I really feel like it nailed that alien horror element more than any other in the series and I love it!

Definite ones for me would have to be: The Minecart stage from Gunstar Heroes. The action is awesome, the music is great and its probably one of the best boss battles on the system. Heck from Earthworm Jim. The soundtrack and the enemies make this one for me, fighting lawyers and a snowman that breathes fire is just the height of silly and I love it! The Machine planet in Ristar also springs to mind. It's got some of the catchiest music on the system and the stages are really challenging. The maze can be very difficult but also make you look like a pro when done right. Those are just off the top of my head, sure I could come up with more!

Aquatic Ruin is brilliant level design that rewards careful platforming. First few times you play it, you're going to trudge through the water (and maybe even drown a couple of times), but once you learn how to time your jumps properly, you can whip through it similarly to Emerald Hill Zone. The other water stages in Sonic don't offer such an alternative and submerge you in the water for most of the level.

Streets Of Rage 2: Baseball Stadium, I mean, my favourite track in that game and I love how every level progresses in that game. Far smoother than the first game. Rocket Knight's Adventure: Stage 6, I mean wicked music and that level gives you one impressive challenge compared to all stages in the game prior. This level set the tone for the rest of the game as how much more aggressive your playstyle will have to become. Bio Hazard Battle: Stage 3 Jungle, The enemies, the bosses, the audio, I mean, this level to me was perfect. I find this game to be highly underrated. Sonic & Knuckles: Stage 2, the best music in my opinion from any Sonic game, it just kept you wanting more and more. This level is the music that sells it so damn well, and you can tell this is a Michael Jackson song. Alien 3: Stage 2, An amazing rocking tune in the background that keeps you pushing to find the prisoners before they meet their fate. The level of detail in the environments and the horrific styling of the deceased made this level creepier then the rest outside of Stage 4. Urban Strike: Vegas, I love the night fighting, and how intense this level is. I love how explosions light the night sky, and love the way this mission plays out. It blew my 6 year old mind when I watched someone for the first time show me past Stage 2, and that level left a permenant memory. Revenge Of Shinobi: Chinatown, The music in that stage is some of Yuzo Koshiros best, and it really sets the tone and atmosphere to that kick stage. The layout, the enemies, the atmosphere and more just sell that stage. Streets Of Rage: Final Stage, The music again sets the atmosphere, the windows showing how its turning from night to day, facing all former foes again, on top of the final showdown with Mr. X, that level has always impressed me. I will never forget beating it with my brother for the first time. Toy Story: Second level at Sids House, I love the music especially, the atmosphere is dark, I also find this to be one of the most underrated and amazing Sega Genesis games of all time. The story following the movie literally, the level designs constantly reminding you of the movie, the audio, the 3D elements, and more make this entire game worth owning and a must have. The river run stage on Jurassic Park Rampage edition has the most beautiful water effect I’ve ever seen on the system and the Moose Hunters stage on Mickey Mania has amazing vibrant colors, great parallax scrolling and superb Mickey and Pluto animation.

Both quite good, I agree.

Pity you still haven't mentioned Rocket Knight Adventures and Earthworm Jim yet. Maybe you will in a future video. My favourite stage in RKA is the third, where you have reflecting lava like the reflecting water in Castlevania. The one in EJ is the underwater level, where Jim has to steer a submarine and fight a "truly epic" boss fight. Keep it going SLX!

These two videos were great! Data East and their run and guns were similar in structure. Awesome gameplay, not fantastic but passable visuals, and amazing music that made the game. Everything said about Midnight Resistance you can apply verbatim to Bloody Wolf on Turbografx. If you're going to do a fan version of these my vote goes to stage 1 of X-Men 2: Clone Wars. You turn your Genesis on and bam you're playing the game. Your X-Person randomly chosen. No fuss, no waiting, just get to it. Once you beat it then you get the intro screen. Also the snow effect is great. The stage overall does a great job making you hyped for the rest of the game.

Dude, amazing sequence of games and stages. Think you have plenty space to bring more like Earthworm Jin, Vectorman, Ristar, Verytex and Comix Zone for example. Well done, great videos and content, my best regards from Brazil

Always loved the levels where you ride a giant elevator. The one at the end of Streets of Rage reminded me of the "After Dark" screensaver "Starry Night".

Just a state that popped in my head is the first stage of robocop vs terminator (MA code entered of course) hearing that music and just blasting enemies some from the original robocop film into a bloody pulp was just a sight to see as a young teenager

I'd love to nominate the Fifth stage from Rocket Knight adventures for this, but it has the arrow platforms which are just boring and the boxing robot boss, while an awesome moment, is an RNG run killer for Crazy Hard difficulty. So instead I'll say the final stage, as you get final showdowns with both the big bads followed by a low grav section and then the final battle in the heart of the Pig Star.

Great video, SLX! I'm sure this was a fun video to make like the last one! Aquatic Ruin Zone and Ice Cap Zone are my favorite Sonic 2 and 3 Zones, too! Contra Hard Corps, World of Illusion, and Mega Turrican all have a number of excellent stages! I would not be able to pick just one! 😅 I suggest making a series of your favorite levels on any platform: NES, SNES, Game Gear, Playstation, N64, Saturn, Dreamcast...whatever floats your boat! Maybe even do a special arcade edition? A lot of arcade games have some really wild level designs, so it would be interesting to see which ones you enjoyed most!

Yup, arcade stages could be very interesting.

Aquatic ruins, ice cap and angel island has the best background graphics for sonic 2 and 3.
@mattb65222 жыл бұрын
@@maroon9273 Absolutely agree. Aquatic Ruins and Angel Island had such amazing and organic-looking designs. Ice Cap was just beautiful with some of the parallax scrolling in the backgrounds. Sonic Team had brilliant artists and pushed the Genesis' graphical capabilities!

@@mattb6522 yes, none of those ips and talent was pushed over to the saturn and at times the dreamcast. Shame sega lost most of their ips after the genesis. Only a tiny amount of games made it to the saturn and few for the dreamcast.

Comix Zone, first level: start out the game, music kicks in and you just go when you get good at the game.

ahh, that ice cap music still moves me all these years later... the best music in sonic 3 hands down

Good stage choices in PT1. The Shadowdancer Statue of Liberty is my all time favourite.

Some SNES levels that I will mention. The stage 2 space colony in Axelay. Of course one could mention any stage in that game. 😊 Stage 3 of Contra 3. The factory with all that smokey pollution in background. The fourth area of Soul Blazer. The climb up the mountain with the mountainous view in the background. Then eventually you are treated to some northern lights the higher you go.

Snow Barrel Blast (4-1) from Donkey Kong Country made a big impression with the intensifying blizzard as the stage progressed. R-Type 3 stage 1 had some nice visual and mode-seven effects and was just fun to play. Castlevania IV stage 2 has a great color palette and frequently changing landscapes, and brooding music.

I know there are some folks who would disagree with me on this choice, but one of my favorite stages from the Genesis library has to be Black's Dice Palace from Gunstar Heroes. I totally dug the board game concept (which made clever usage of the characters' throw ability to roll an actual dice) and it allowed Treasure to play to their strengths of incorporating a bunch of unique boss encounters to the overall game. I always enjoyed fighting through all the various challenges, and the final boss battle with Black kept in theme with the dice roll idea, leading to what I found to be a fun finish for the level.

I was a scifi junkie even as a kid and any of the urban stages in Flashback made me think...WOW I AM LIVING THE BLADERUNNER MOVIE! Snatcher and Shadowgate had similar feel but the entire game.

One of my favorite stage would be the lava stage in Rocketknight Adventure. The reflection of the lava the music… every thing is great about this stage.

You definitely delivered more great content in this second part too. Those devs back then, really did some amazing wonders, on those old school consoles. In SF2, Cammy's stage always comes up as a favourite.👍😄 Also, good to see that you talked about the scammers, at the end of the vid. Great vid.👍

World of Illusion is my favourite Disney game on the Megadrive (maybe favourite Disney game overall) and probably just outside my top 10 overall on the system. Donald and Mickley having different stages added replay value (haven't played 2 player mode in years to be able to remember how that was). The candy themed levels are probably my favourite in that game.
