Man, it's criminal that SEGA hasn't given us an OutRun 3. 2026 will be the series' 40th anniversary. I hope they don't forget about it. At this point, I'd be happy with with a remaster of Outrun 2 / 2006. 🕹

I'd love to see Sega come out of no where with some kind of bad ass new console! It's not the same with Nintendo still doing great things, without Sega challenging them every step of the way. The 90's were a great time for gaming and I really miss that era. Sega would blow minds if they unveiled a system from out of no where. I think there's room in the market, without a doubt.

The issue with Out Run is licensing. They need to renew their deal with Ferrari and make a proper Out Run 3. I had SO much fun with Out Run Coast 2 Coast. It's a shame you can't even buy it anymore 😢
@ScottWozniak2 күн бұрын
@@gabrieldias3479 Yeah, I'm fully aware of the Ferrari license. If it's an issue they can do like they did with the 3DS version and simply remove the Ferrari logos.
@gabrieldias34792 күн бұрын
@@ScottWozniak They have removed the Ferrari logos from ports like the Master System, iirc. But, let's face it: if we want a true Outrun 3, we *NEED* the full Ferrari experience! 😁 Since now it seems Sega is doing well, also resurrecting some franchises, maybe they will close another deal with Ferrari (who's also on a high now with F1) and we get an Outrun 3.

Phantasy Star 4 to me is one of the ultimate comfort games. I can pick it up and know I'll have about 20 hours of a fun RPG with a great story to play through. Same with the Sonic games on Genesis. A lot of the Yakuza games also feel like comfort games to me, because once you get into that series, most of the entries feel comfortable to play even when it's your first time. For games that aren't Sega, I'd have to add the Mega Man franchise. I can play through tons of them in a row and have a blast. And I can't leave out Falcom's classic Ys series. If you've played them, you get why they could be comfort games between the fast pace, fun story, great gameplay and awesome soundtrack.

My go-to comfort game probably has to be Shinobi III. Even though I already know it like the back of my hand, I still can't seem to get enough of it. The hyperdynamic gameplay, the amazing artstyle, the rocking soundtrack, the impactful sound effects, the challenging yet quite forgiving difficulty... It's all there. I still remember having a hard time learning to walljump and being stuck in the middle of the very first stage when I first played it about 20 years ago, but when I got past it, I was having a total blast. I guess I could say the same about the Streets of Rage and Golden Axe series.

Great video! For me there are a few games that I will come back to with regularity. Mega Man 2 is a game I can sit back, go into a trance and beat it in roughly 45 minutes and have a blast. Tecmo Super Bowl is my favorite football game to just go thru a season with a bad team and win it all. It brings me back to a time where friends and I would go thru seasons together well into a Saturday night huddled in front of the TV in the early 90s. Lastly there is Doom. A PC game that genuinely frightened me the first time a 12 year old me played it the first time. I had to sneak buying the Ultimate version a few years later and only play it at night well after my parents had gone to bed for fear they would see the game and make me take it back. Because I had to play it at night with headphones on, it made the experience that much more unforgettable.

It's a simple Golf game, but it's so absolutely polished to perfection that you just can't help but enjoy it! That & well, it's just plain fun to play! For me, it used to be grinding in RPGs, whether it's for loot (Diablo-style games, Borderlands series) or for levels (I maxed out every character/skill in Final Fantasy VI and Secret of Mana), but that's starting to feel too time consuming now. Pac-man, Galaga, Yars' Revenge, and Dig-Dug are the old-school arcade-style games that fill that itch, along with the various virtual pinball games (as long as I'm playing familiar tables and not some of those quarter-robbing early tables). I also like playing horizontal and vertical shooters (even some bullet hell games)--I know I'm typically garbage at them, so making any progress feels like a win, and I usually don't continue to the point of frustration like I do with platformers or fighting games; in the meantime, I can enjoy the eye candy, as they are usually some of the flashiest games. Ditto racing games like arcade racing games like Virtua Racer, Cruisin series, Pole Position, and Super Hang-On. During the first year of COVID, I almost exclusively played Animal Crossing on Switch.

Such an important topic, especially getting older. Balatro has scratched the itch of satisfaction in short term gaming. Going back to these games the nostalgia brings a lot of comfort. Thanks for recommending the golf game and yeah MGSV is the best game I've ever played because of what you said here too.

Oh man the first Streets of Rage, I can still remember what it felt like at my cousins house, at 2am with his parents asleep, and his TV turned down super low playing that game, then one of us would yell, pause it and lay low for a bit, freakin love that game.

That there's no sprite-based remake of Road Road trilogy just blows my mind. Same with Wing Commander 1-4. They could remake those games so gorgeous now if they wanted to.

I played MGS5 first on PS4, then again on PC, then again on PS4 and then again on PC. I must have around 900 hours total on this game. 😅

Revenge of Shinobi is my number 1 comfort game. That soundtrack is unmatched 👍💯

Road Rash is such a nostalgic game. I used the bounce off the side of the bed when going over a hilly bump in the road while playing it. Seemed so realistic back then.

My SLX, i'm so looking foward to your analysis of the Sega VF Direct. I feel this is EXtremely important to the future of Sega projects.

I just got over a flu and one of the games that gave me that comfort was Tetris for the NES, as well as Sonic Mania (for the same reasons as Sonic 2 for you). They got me through the flu and were low stress pick up and play games.

Man, great picks! Almost all of the main Road Rash games are my feel good softwares. I try to get my hands on anything similar. Been playing Road Redemptiom on and off for some time too. But man I wish they'd at least remade some of the classics Road Rash.

Excellent video! Would love to see this turn into a multi part series, maybe even broken down into genres.

I knew somebody who would play Shining Force 1 and 2 endlessly. Evem though he owned a Sega CD he would play nothing else

Great list, I still play many of these today, Turf masters is great, I've never been into golf but that game is fun, SMB2 is another.....I've never played it all the way through, I just start it up and play it until I have to go do something else, it's a relaxing time. The Road Rash games are great too. The first one is great, the others add little tweaks to the formula and the games are just fun and relaxing to play through. While I have the newer Road Rash games on N64 and playstation, the Sega versions are simple pick up and play versions that keep me coming back to play them again and again.
