How I miss the Salvation Army bands. They were a feature of my childhood. I MISS YOU. Is anybody listening? Don't you care that we are all so spiritually impoverished by your absence? Blessings on your heads, while eternal ages roll, for ever.

It just goes to show you do not need a 'big band' to make beautiful music, this piece never fails to move me to tears, and I can hear Harwich Corp 123 Male voice choir singing 'When I Survey' to the tune too.

My favourite piece of music brings tears to my eyes instantly. Also makes me think of my dear old Dad who died at 80 and I was 31, my favourite memory with him was going to the Albert Hall in 1946 to the Daily Herald contest.

Congratulations. The "sustain" was beautiful... as was the swell. Moving. Many larger bands and orchestras cannot get the peace into this piece. You did! TY.

Absolutely Superb. Correct Speed. Not a wrong note anywhere. You should be proud of yourselves.

You can't beat a brass band playing hymns.

My great grandfathers cousin wrote this! He was humming the tune on a train when a co-passenger said " That's a deep harmony" Hence the name. Some good stuff comes out of Yorkshire tha knows!

The Salvation Army also associates the tune with the words:- When I survey The Wondrous Cross.

Beautiful performance. It also goes well in the male voice arrangement. Anybody know if the Sally Army have recorded Gresford?

This hymn tune is well known with two Hymns. The first is "Sweet is the work, .... Sweet is the work, my God, my King, to praise thy name, give thanks and sing, to show thy love by morning light, and talk of all thy truth at night. 2 Sweet is the day of sacred rest, no mortal cares disturb my breast; O may my heart in tune be found, like David's harp of solemn sound! 3 My heart shall triumph in the Lord, and bless his works, and bless his word; thy works of grace, how bright they shine, how deep thy counsels, how divine! 4 And I shall share a glorious part, when grace has well refined my heart, and fresh supplies of joy are shed, like holy oil, to cheer my head.5 Then shall I see and hear and know all I desired or wished below; and every power find sweet employ in that eternal world of joy. The second is "When I survey ..... as here: 1. When I survey the wond'rous Cross On which the Prince of Glory died, My richest Gain I count but Loss, And pour Contempt on all my Pride. 2. Forbid it, Lord, that I should boast, Save in the Death of Christ my God: All the vain Things that charm me most, I sacrifice them to his Blood. 3. See from his Head, his Hands, his Feet, Sorrow and Love flow mingled down! Did e'er such Love and Sorrow meet? Or Thorns compose so rich a Crown? 4. His dying Crimson, like a Robe, Spreads o'er his Body on the Tree; Then am I dead to all the Globe, And all the Globe is dead to me. 5. Were the whole Realm of Nature mine, That were a Present far too small; Love so amazing, so divine, Demands my Soul, my Life, my All. All blessings to you.
