Great playing from the Monkwearmouth S.A. Band , I really enjoyed this . The soprano cornet player has a lovely sound as do the rest of the band .

You can't beat the Salvation Army brass band - it brings back so many happy memories of when I was a Junior Soldier. Such a shame you hardly see them these days. I used to love the annual Christmas carolling and the open air meetings. I always put money in the tin any time I do see them.

I think there is nothing so lovely as the grand old hymns played on brass instruments.

Oh! What beautiful tunes in here. That's why Simon & Garfunkel used to sing "Hear the salvation army band Down by the riverside, it's bound to be a better ride "

My parents were stationed at Monkwearmouth in 1950. Great Army Corps. Went to Lurgan with the Singing Company on a 10 day campaign.Even remember candlelight Pub raids !! Loved the bands Hymn tunes.

Great to hear from you. So many happy memories of Brighton Congress Hall. I really enjoyed reading your memories. Do you recall anyone named Joyce Paton. I recall she was in my age group and a member of the YP Corps then. I alaso chaired the YP Anniversary on one occasion when Brig Will Fryer was the CO.

Fine music. What piece are you playing after Amazing Grace (starting around 1:09)? We regularly play a few SA arrangements in our brass band concerts in Pennsylvania, USA--most recently Sing Praises. This piece might be one I could pose to our conductor to add to our repertoire. Sent by a tenor horn player....

A Good sound but what is the point if no-one speaks to the many listeners, enjoying the music, about our beliefs or to encourage them to attend a worship meeting on Sunday or in the week? How many of the listeners understand we are part of the Christian Church?? Why are not one of the 25 players giving out a verbal message!
