I'll never forget seeing the tears streaming from Dafydd Iwans face as he opened for our qualifying match. Witnessing a chorus of people (at least 30,000 strong) singing his own song back at him: A song of nationhood, a song of history and culture, a song of protest and celebration *in our mother tongue* - where at least 60% of the people singing weren't born when he wrote it! In that moment - You got to see one man's dream come into reality... which in-turn inspired our boys to make another dream come to light: Cymru is a country of the world, and has continually "punched above our weight" on the world stage, but have rightfully earned our place amongst nations of the world to do so. Ymlaen bois - YMLAEN!

The diaspora here in the north west of England are right behind you - the children and grandchildren of Welsh speaking north Walians who came to Liverpool, Manchester and the industrial towns of Lancashire and Cheshire to make a life for themselves because Sydney, New York and Toronto was too far away from home. I might be born English but when it comes to football, Wales was always it - the Racecourse Ground was always 40 minutes on the train and Sgorio was always on the telly as a kid. It's brilliant to see Wales finally achieve their World Cup dream 64 years later, we have been waiting a long time too.

Here's the translation for you, ffrind. 😁 "You don't remember Macsen, nobody knows him. One thousand and six hundred years, a time too long to remember. When Magnus Maximus left Wales, in the year 383, leaving us a whole nation, and today - look at us! We are still here, in spite of everyone and everything Let the wind blow from the East, let the storm roar from the sea, let the lightning split the heavens, and the thunder shout "encore!" Let the tears of the faint-hearted flow, and the servile lick the floor. Despite the blackness around us, we are ready for the breaking of the dawn! We are still here, in spite of everyone and everything We remember that Macsen the Emperor left our country in one whole piece. And we shall shout before the nations, "We'll be here until Judgement Day!" Despite every Dic Siôn Dafydd, despite old Maggie and her crew, we'll be here until the end of time, and the Welsh language will be alive! We are still here, in spite of everyone and everything..."

Feel so privileged and lucky to be Welsh. Thought I’d experienced the biggest high during the 2016 euros, until we joined the Red Wall this summer and sung this in the stadium. An unbelievable moment that I’ll never forget, and an unbelievable song that captures Welsh people doing Welsh things. Dafydd, you star. Wow. I am Welsh, born and raised in a Gwent coal mining town but moved away to England in my mid 20s. I'm Welsh at heart and followed the rugby team even through their troubles. But this is something else. The Welsh FA have played an absolute blinder here. The football team is more than a group of football players. They are a perfect movement at this time and place. I am moved every time I watch this or the live version at the CCS. I keep going back to watch the anthem against Ireland in the 2017 playoffs. It's pure emotional that gets your heart. I know the struggles of Wales. I grew up in the remnants of Thatcher's closing of the coal mines leaving most people with no prospects. But we're still here. More than that we're thriving. This is just a perfect song to capture the spirit of Wales. The FAW are a shining example to the world on how to galvanise a country. Powerful, moving and zero f##ks to give if nobody else understands it.

I've been listening to this song at lesat twice a day for over a year now. I know the song is about the Welsh Language and that they kept the language even though Brittan tried to get rid of it. HOWEVER, as a person who has drug-resistant depression (No Medications have worked for me), this song is INCREDIBLE. With Depression, sometimes when you wake up in the morning all you can say is "I'm Still Alive...". This song almost "Gives you permission" to feel that way. To be proud of the fact we made it another day, and we're still here. And the part about being surrounded by Darkness but ready to see the dawn". I cannot express what this song has meant to me. I CAN say that he's just released his autobiography in English and it is INCREDIBLE. His live could EASILY be made into a movie (Including someone trying to get him tied up in a plan to "Unalive" the Prince many years ago. I won't say what happened, but what an INCREDIBLE man, story, and song! I don't know what to say other than this song has literally kept me going!

Britain was Welsh. The English were Germanic invaders who pushed us west of the island into Wales and Cornwall

The dream of Macsen Wledig lives! The Great Endeavour is underway! All evil empires must fall! Good and honest folk from around the world will gather as we arrive to join them in the light of freedom's day! This is the hour long-awaited! We will never speak in hushed tones again! We are without fear! Yma o hyd!

AMAZING - I am Scottish but this is a cracking anthem. Our nations enjoy the rivalry but this makes me proud to be British. To our friends in England, Wales, and Northern Ireland - total respect for our cultures but we are all British. Be proud - stick together. 🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧

Yma O Hyd isn't the Welsh Anthem. The Welsh anthem is Mae Hen Wlad Fy Nhadau. ;) Yma O Hyd is a patriotic/nationalist song.

It would be nice if the English respected the Celtic peoples enough to consider them as equals, not lesser peoples or conquered subjects.

@allisonshaw9341 There is an area in Cardiff that used to be called Butetown, named after a Scottish abuser and exploiter of the Welsh people. I'm not particularly having a go at the Scots, but it isn't just the English. You might not know but there used to be a Welsh whisky industry. When Scotland went into the union, they had the duty removed from Scottish whisky, but they insisted that Welsh whisky had to pay duty. They deliberately destroyed the Welsh industry. There are many other stories, including stories involving Ireland. However, I won't bother you with any more. As a side note, Welsh is Brythonic Celtic, our linguistic brothers are the Cornish (a language that is still spoken), Breton, and also the language of Galicia in North West Spain. Mind you, Galician has been diluted with a lot of Spanish, Portuguese, and Latin. The Irish patron Saint was a Brythonic Celt kidnapped as a child from what is now Wales and enslaved in Ireland. The boy 'done well' he became the patron Saint of the country that enslaved him. :)

@DafyddHughes-oq2hd They haven't destroyed us. We are still here and we will be till the end of time. :) The language has survived and is, I believe, growing. My father used to tell me about the 'Welsh not' where in the area he lived if you were heard to accidentally speak so much as one word of Welsh in school you were beaten, made to wear a dunces hat and paraded through the village with a sign around your neck saying how stupid you were. It didn't work mind. They still spoke Welsh at home, in the village shop, with friends, and later, they all made sure that their children spoke Welsh. :)
