Song written and performed by me, Taryn Hadfield
Fawning is a trauma response that uses people-pleasing behavior to appease or supplicate an aggressor, avoid conflict, and ensure safety. It's often overlooked, and I wanted to write a song that captures how it feels.
I always wished I was more of a fighter and assertive, but I typically just "fawn" my out of it as much as I can. As I've grown older, I've learned to recognize the habits and patterns sooner, and use other tools.
While fawning helped me survive in certain situations, I've learned that just "going along with things" doesn't completely protect you from harm. Today, I'm better at taking accountability and apologizing.
This session was filmed in an open field this spring in Antelope State Park Utah, surrounded by birdcalls, wind and the rain. Unfortunately, our original audio tracks were unusable due to the conditions, and we ended up having to record the audio a second time, out of the storm.
All still me and my guitar playing, but just from a different time. We did our best to sync it up, and I'm still very proud of the beauty we captured.
