The damage Kirashima took is much more serious looking in the manga because his skin looks like he was shredded by knives

Can't really be stressed enough how much they downplayed the damage from the manga, which they continue doing in future seasons. Having his hardening broken is sort of akin to having a limb broken, and Kirishima stood his ground as Rappa beat him into hamburger meat until Fitgum showed up for the big finish.

Kirishima here and Deku's Muscular fight in the manga was absolutely brutal. Then I see it adapted and remember oops, this airs on TV and kids watch

Well you asked for another Kirishima moment and damn did we get an awesome one A lot to remember out of that flashback though, we got Kirishima and Mina's origin, but also that big dude said the Springer agency, which was one of the quirks All for One used against All Might in their final showdown. Rappa isn't quite bad for villain heavy standards, due to his Quirk his punches can get on par with All Might so he's super dangerous, he also showed up in the Spin-off manga Vigilantes in a flashback arc where he allied with a couple of heroes briefly to escape a riot caused by All for One as a smokescreen to steal quirks.
