Great videos on this builds and I learned a lot. Just a couple of points: On dust covers - this rifle lives in an EDC bag along with other items. Yes, it gets it's own compartment in a well designed bag like the Vertx bags. Still, lint and crap gets in there. I'd rather be safe than sorry especially since you also have the folding stock adapter to deal with. Few people take the time to ensure the bag or compartments are as clean as they were when new, so anything you can do to mitigate potential problems appeals to me. The forward assist is also mandatory for me, at least until I can find a way to do a press check without. If you are comfortable not know for absolute certain that the first round was chambered before you pull the trigger then don't worry about it.

I built one with the Faxon 7.5” 1:5 twist, and a PSA HBPDW lower as it comes complete. It ran great, haven’t had a chance to try it with a can yet. I had about 5-6” group at 200 yards with just a primary arms MD25. I’m happy with it considering it’s just a 7.5” barrel shooting 300bo. I only shot 125 grain I believe, steel case.

Converted my 5.56 to 300 with this barrel. Only spent a short time at an indoor range to see what would happen. 25 yard groups with a red dot were less than an inch using AAC 110 vmax. I'm not sure If i will buy that brand any longer though after reading all of the online separation stories. I did have a bit of brass and or copper in my upper receiver when I took it apart. I should have looked closely to see if it was jacket or case. When I loaded with 220 subs I couldn't get ejection. Got maybe half way out of the chamber. Also tried with a Sprinco yellow and 2-5/8 buffer. No point in shooting subs though like you said until my can comes in. Note: there is a small chamfer/cut on the shoulder of the gas journal. My non Faxon gas block lined right up to the forward edge of that cut in order for the holes to be aligned. It's probably 1/32" ish.
@eitrisenhancementsllc
@eitrisenhancementsllc 8 ай бұрын
Was the copper you saw in the upper as metal shavings? Gas blocks are kindof all over the place in dimensions which is why i suggest a borescope. But i think from what i understood we may be using the same method. Ive started using the muzzle device as my stop for my gas block instead of the barrel shoulder. Its worked great for me so far. You still need to make sure its aligned side to side though.
@richardwinters1445
@richardwinters1445 8 ай бұрын
Yes, metal shavings and one was pretty big. Probably 1/8" in size. I will have to do more shooting before I put a can on it so I can determine which ammo it was. I was shooting AAC 110 gr v-max and Federal 220 gr. Perhaps it was just the new Faxon barrel chamber just being slightly too sharp along the edges. No bore scope yet, but for any gas block I've done, I have had good results just measuring with the depth gauge on my calipers the center of the hole from the end of the block and the center of the hole in the barrel from the journal shoulder. @@eitrisenhancementsllc

Not sure if BA did something different with their 6 inch 300 blackout barrel but with all of my other BA barrels in 300 blk, 556, 6.5 Grendel and 6.5 Creedmoor but I’ve always left a gap between the gas block and the shoulder of the gas block journal and verified with a bore scope that it was in line with the gas port. Did you verify it was lined up with the gas port when the gas block was up against the shoulder? If not then perhaps that’s what was causing the problem. I do agree a 1/5 twist on the fax on is the way to go and not sure why BA hasn’t done one yet.

Just put a very similar build together, Same barrel. With AAC 208 and 220 subs I'm having feeding issues. Geissle spring with empty buffer weight and not enough juice to feed. 1st thought was I misaligned the gas block(Faxon block) but before I called it a day I tried some AAC 110gr and 115gr supers and it feed perfect even using a H3 weight. Side note: chrono has subs at 895avg, supers 1880avg. I'll borescope the barrel but I'm confident it's good. Will buy an aluminum extension and yellow sprinco and see how the subs work

That feeling you are talking about is based on the heavy mass with the heavy spring. With such a large gas port you are accidentally “over-charging” the system by running so much mass and spring. Tried a combination with a JP gas ring and no bueno. Little annoying I had to use an empty buffer weight but it a dedicated subsonic gun so it's fine. If I decide to run supers I'll throw in a H1 Before changing anything I double checked the gas block alignment and it is perfect. I used a Faxon block for easy alignment and I doubled the barrel.

Good deal! The jp gas ring does require an efficient carrier to work properly. But I am glad to see you got it operational. What subs were you trying to get to function? Also what bcg are you using? Its just baffling to me that they continue the undergassing trend. It is soooo much easier to fix an overgassed barrel than to have someone void their warranty to fix their product. But maybe thats what they want……. Either way, i know they can make good barrels, just gotta pay the extra for the solgw branded stuff as they have a higher degree of quality control, and they have proper gas port sizes on them. Your video has steered me in the right direction in more ways than one. So thanks! I ordered a 7.5 faxon for my build shortly before stumbling on your videos. Question... You shoot primarily supers, so why does the 1:5 really appeal to you? Is there a reason other than subsonic stability that I'm missing?
@eitrisenhancementsllc
@eitrisenhancementsllc 6 ай бұрын
Glad i could help! I have been shooting subs more recently. The main idea behind it is 100% because of subs. However the 1:5 can still benefit extremely short barrels as the bullet rpm is directly proportional to velocity. This means that the 1:5 can help bring up supers up to proper rpm. Do they need them? Maybe, maybe not. But it is more appropriate that the shorter the barrel is, the faster the twist should be. Personally believe the 1:5 shouldn’t be used for barrels longer than 8” purely because of the effect it may have on supers. I Can get more into it if you join my webinar tomorrow! I cant link it but you can find it on my website through google!

I'm taller, and am getting ready to start my build. I too would like the handguard to meet at or before the threads. I'd prefer as much "real estate" for whatever grip I go with. Seems it would make most sense then for me to go with the 5.25" length handguard. I realize it's only an additional 3/4". Is that even noticeable? Should I just get the 4.5 if I wouldn't benefit from the extra length?
@eitrisenhancementsllc
@eitrisenhancementsllc 8 ай бұрын
@itzPowell personally the difference will mostly be cosmetic. Its such a small difference it really shouldnt matter too much. That said. There is a big reason to go with the SLR 5.25” with picatinny. And that is that the picatinny gives you way more accessory positions than the single mlok slot you get at the bottom of the shorter handguards Also, BG defense sells an mlok 5.25” handguard as well that is less expensive than the SLR. However it does need to be timed which the SLR does not

If you are going to run 220gr subs, 1:5 is the way to go with shorter 300 blk barrels like this. Sadly, most manufacturers only offer 1:8 and maybe 1:7 (which could be enough for a 16” or even 10.5” barrel). I wonder how much more expensive is to produce a 1:5 barrel because it’s basically only high priced brands like Q, Faxon and Sig making them.
@eitrisenhancementsllc
@eitrisenhancementsllc 9 ай бұрын
You are correct! I dont believe there is a need for a 1/5 on anything longer than 7”-8” barrel Its all based on time in barrel, and rpm to stabilize. Hence why 308 subs can stabilize with a 1/10 just fine Its a niche item if im being completely honest. And should only be used on super short barrels But even with a 6” barrel, supers are way overspun even with their velocity losses My calculations would mean a 6” barrel needs a 1-6 twist to achieve the same rpm as a 1/10 308 bullet of the same grain Hope this makes sense

@@eitrisenhancementsllc I agree it’s a niche gun, but when you already own a lot of firearms, filling all niches becomes an urge. lol I have almost everything I want on my collection, but one of the things I’m still missing is a .300BLK PDW. That’s a great question! Basically the location of the QD slot is smack dab in the middle of where my hand would go on the handguard. It sucks because I was excited to not have to purchase a QD attachment when I got it, but I quickly realized that QD slot was basically useless as there was literally no way I could place my hand without holding the QD itself. I was running FMJ. Cup and core appears to be simply a different term for just an open tip bullet from what I’ve gathered! Basically anything that PSA makes will be g2g. The only projectiles you need to watch out for are the “plated” projectiles, such as the berry’s spire point projectiles. This is because the copper plating is substantially thinner and offers no structural rigidity compared to FMJ or hollows/open tip. All FMJ, hollow points or cup and core bullets are good to shoot out of the 1:5!

It does with certain subs. The lighter mass was too gassy for my own subs with cfe blk. But remington subs, winchester white box subs and my own cfe blk subs all get LRBHO with the heavier 2oz extension and 3oz buffer with the sprinco yellow. The lighter setup was a reliability enhancer, but since i make my own subs now and i had gas to face with my own subs i chose to add mass. However, fiocchi subs wouldnt reliably cycle with the lighter setup. And s&b subs cycled but wouldnt lock back with the lighter setup Depending on the can you use, you may be able to use a higher backpressure can to reduce these problems Its also worth noting that i am actually able to get LRBHO with my cfe blk subs with the lighter setup and WITHOUT a suppressor.

How do we feel about adjustable gas blocks with this barrel?
@eitrisenhancementsllc
@eitrisenhancementsllc Жыл бұрын
This is a difficult question to answer on text, as the answer is very dependent on what ammo you intend to run on it. If you plan on running only supers, suppressed or unsuppressed, then sure. Adjustable gas blocks is a great way to avoid mass tuning. HOWEVER, the gas block journal is very limited on what type of adjustable gas block you use as the muzzle device is right up against it. (Ex: Superlative gas blocks dont fit) If you plan on using subsonics, then an adjustable gas block is useless, since all it can do is reduce gas. And in this case you need all the gas thats available, so its entirely pointless. If you copy my setup, it allows you to run supers suppressed, supers unsuppressed, and subsonics suppressed. All with the twist of a screwdriver and easily repeatable

5.7 is still a very loud round in itself. With 300blk you at least have the option of increased energy on target. With the benefit of reducing muzzle blast with subsonics. Subs unsuppressed wont be quiet of course. But they definitely wont be as loud as 5.7 or supers! Just make sure you use hollow points if you plan on using 300blk subs!

Hello Eitri, I’m waiting on my suppressor (Dead air sandman s) to install on my 300 blackout 8” pistol length BA upper/barrel with a .750 gas block journal. Standard buffer wt. It also has a Law tactical folder with the 2oz bolt extension. I want it to cycle subs and supers reliably. I’ve heard so many different opinions. Buffer wt., adjustable gas blocks, barrels, etc. Would you mind sharing your thoughts? If not, I understand.
@eitrisenhancementsllc
@eitrisenhancementsllc Жыл бұрын
Of course! Your barrel length should be pretty worry free. But i would advise against adjustable gas blocks. Run a standard gas block. Use a sprinco yellow reduced power spring and start from there. More than likely you wont need anything else from there. Once you get the can, see if it runs subs with the can on. If it doesnt, remove the interal weights from the buffer and try again, if that doesnt work, get a KAK lightweight law folder extension. It should run after that without issues. You always want to gas your gun for subs with a can. As that means itll run supers with or without the can. It may be a little overgassed with supers and a can. But you will know when you get there. Let me know once you’re there and i can keep helping you, i dont want to overwhelm you with info so just follow the steps i wrote to begin with!

@@eitrisenhancementsllc with an 8” barrel full time suppressed shooting subs, yellow spring, and law folder, is the Bootleg adjustable BCG still necessary? Or should it work okay with a regular 5.56 BCG?
@eitrisenhancementsllc
@eitrisenhancementsllc Жыл бұрын
@@EzraLopezUSPSA itll work fine with a standard bcg no matter what. But if you tune for subs and then switch to supers you will be extremely overgassed for supers with the can on. So long story short, if you plan on using the can 100% and only run subs 100% of the time, then the bootleg bcg isnt necessary. If you plan on shooting subs and supers suppressed, the bootleg is also not necessary, but i recommend it to prevent your gun from beating itself to death, and it improves the recoil impulse as well as eliminating gas to face.

I considered it. But im not sure i care enough about it firing folded. Not to mention that switching over would eliminate my adjustable bolt carrier. Its also $400 for it, its honestly a little much. Especially when you factor that you need to use a law folder for it to work. So add another $250 to that. I do have alot of money in my setup. But firing folded is more of a novelty to me. I may change my mind later if it comes down in price. But at its current cost and with me losing my gas adjustments, i dont think its worth it for me.

Not really, although purely due to bullet rpm i would probably stick to heavier projectiles. @@eitrisenhancementsllc If I had to guess the rumor of over spinning the bullet with a 1-5 twist barrel causing jacket separation was probably started because someone bought a box of the Berry’s plated bullets and didn’t read the warnings. Like I said just a guess.
@eitrisenhancementsllc
@eitrisenhancementsllc 10 ай бұрын
This is probably true. But its also a fact that high rpm objects require to be balanced for said rpm. The higher the rpm, the more precise the balance is required. So its safe to say that over-spinning an object not designed for that high rpm can cause an oscillation. Even if the bullet itself doesn’t disintegrate, the oscillation will affect ballistics all together. Maybe not fall apart, but widen due to the centrifugal force. (This action slows rpm) This may not be an issue with say sierra matchkings, but with basic cheap ammo, it very possibly could. But yes, plated bullets are a whole other animal. Definitely not meant to do that. But the fact that midway usa sells smk’s as factory seconds (blems/rejects) then its 100% a thing that defects can and will show up in the accuracy department if not accounted for.

@eitrisenhancementsllc
@eitrisenhancementsllc 4 ай бұрын
Unfortunately the most affordable borescope is from teslong and can be bought on amazon. I cant post links but if you are using a vltor gas block like i suggest, you can skip the borescope if you use a bubble level to get the same angle on the gas block (flat surface under gas block) when using the receiver rail as a reference, and a .025” shim between the gas block and “gas block shoulder”. This is by far the easiest and cheapest process. I still use the borescope to verify after, but the above method has yet to fail me.

No sir! This barrel length reduces supers velocities and therefore RPM is also reduced. Its still slightly overspun, but still actually pretty close to being optimum for supers when compared to RPM from a 308 projectile. 1:6 would be the ideal twist for this barrel to match 308 RPM.

Unless you’re running just subs, why not use an AGB?
@eitrisenhancementsllc
@eitrisenhancementsllc 7 ай бұрын
AGB’s only reduce gas, not to mention that although they do offer benefits, the hassle of switching them from one position to another wasn’t convenient enough to warrant them. So with such a gas deprived system, reducing gas isn’t a great option. And then with the only good adjustable gas option requiring a tool, well, that makes it severely inconvenient. Which means you are better off leaving it at full gas. Therefore eliminating its benefits.

@@eitrisenhancementsllc fair point for the 6”. I asked elsewhere if you see the 7.5” main advantage being able to run the Riflespeed AGB because that one is much easier to adjust for repeatable set points?
@eitrisenhancementsllc
@eitrisenhancementsllc 7 ай бұрын
@@illestdomer2005 I was actually gonna respond to that one next haha So, yes that would be a good reason to choose the 7.5 over the 6” As well as if you intend on using supers, since they do help with velocity a bit. My only issue with the RS is that there are too many settings and too many ammo types. You will never be able to remember which ammo belongs to what gas position. I’ve found it best to simply make the operational range wider. That way it can run everything equally well. And then to prevent excess recoil, simply reduce the reciprocating mass. If you do these 2, in the end you end up with a more gas efficient system, with a larger operational window, with decent recoil impulse, with none of the worries of accidentally choosing the wrong gas position. I recommend you check out my website as I have a lot of descriptions to parts and how they can help the operational window!

@@eitrisenhancementsllc I checked out your website the other day, but I didn’t find much. Do you build uppers, or do you provide consulting to builders? On Riflespeed, I think that’s a fair point re: range of adjustments, but I have my plunger and buffer system dialed in to run 125gr supers on setting 2 and 220gr subs on 10-12, depending on the ammo, all suppressed. Like you, I don’t care about reliability with subs unsuppressed. If this rifle were an EDC, yes, I would just live it with being overgassed so I never had to worry about anything. You can still do that with an AGB. It just gives you the ability to dial it in if you want the most pleasant experience.
@eitrisenhancementsllc
@eitrisenhancementsllc 7 ай бұрын
@illestdomer2005 I can’t really mention much about the site here because of KZbin policy, but if you like you can message me directly from the site and I can speak more freely about it. I do think the riflespeed is an excellent option. I dont personally think I’ll ever purchase one but i really do believe it is an excellent design and super convenient. I just wish there was a way for me to have pre-set positions like the mcx and such instead of a bunch of numbers. Then I would be ecstatic with the setup. I do agree with it being a superb pleasant experience, I used to love that about the bootleg. But then it just got old switching back and forth. The riflespeed would’ve probably been a lifesaver in that scenario, however, its just not possible on the 6” so I never considered it for my platform. I have used a superlative system on many rifles before, and I do recommend it highly as well. But it is very dependent on what platform im building at the time. I am still looking into other forms of adjustment, like the rubber city armory gas key, I’ve got that on a build that I’m waiting on the pin and weld barrel to come back!
