I'm an apartment dweller, and I might be evacuated from my building, so I just want a way to take one of my rifles with me while filing out with a large crowd of other people. That means a broken down 16" AR15 is entirely viable. Just pointing out the "backpack gun" concept has some realistic contexts.
@LuckyGunner
@LuckyGunner 4 жыл бұрын
Yeah, that makes sense. For your context, you could get away with a much bigger backpack/bag since you're not looking at a strictly EDC use case.
@Predalien195

The concept of a backpack gun in regards to the context has been around for a long time. Think about a bug out bag... Most people live in urban environments and in situations like that they don't want it to be a massive obviously large gun bag. Overall, there are plenty of realistic scenarios I could imagine where it may be useful.

@@Predalien195 at the same time, bug out bags have been criticized as a bogus way to think about stuff because a home base will always be far better than going around doing whatever in the woods. A "get home" bag with the objective of bringing you safely home where you have a normal size rifle is ways better, you just have to imagine "home" could be as foreign as a motel or your car (where you will have your vehicle bag). If you're in trouble, your absolute first objective will always be to get away and to safety.

@Jaron More common as in more popular so as to demand more options from manufacturers. The 20-round PMAGs were somewhat problematic for a long time, for example. Sometimes job necessity. Picture this. I'm a mechanic. GM wants to send me to Atlanta, for training. It's summer, on an election year. Do I think I'm gonna need it? No. Am I going without it? Hell no. It ain't about what you anticipate. It's about what could happen, given what area you are going to. Even if I'm going to the beach, who's to say a mob ain't gonna shut down a highway and get violent? Sure, a pistol might be enough to deter and get away but what if it isn't? What if these idiots start shooting at people, who try to run them over or use pistols to defend themselves from the mob? I'd like to have a little more firepower, range, and magazine capacity. After summer of 2020, I don't know why everyone doesn't carry on their person AND carry a long gun in the vehicle.

During lockdowns it paid off because we ate alot of jack rabbit with food shortages in the areas. But we're gone for long durations. Driving there might have been 75 and sunny. But 14-28+ days later sometimes months .. things can deteriorate. During the summer of love I got around most of the bs. But there were some times where if things had gone south without it .. I've been putting one together for the past 8 months. Started with the idea of suppressing a 300 blackout in a compact size. I incorporated a Law Tactical Folding adapter into it, and achieved just over 19" when folded (including the blast forwarder) with a 7.5" barrel. When my can gets out of NFA jail It will add a claimed 2.9" to the length. With the blast forwarder being about that long itself and being removed, I expect an overall length increase of only 2 inches or so. Fits in a single strap sling bag that's marketed for pickleball. Full length side unzip, draw, unfold, rack, and it's ready.

My "backpack" firearm is my MP5K. It folds perfectly into my sling bag. The POU is when you need more sustained, accurate volumes of fire. It shares the same ammo as my side arm. HOWEVER, it is highly maneuverable, more accurate given 4 points of contact, holds more rounds (25-30), has a longer barrel (5.6 and 8.9) for better ballistics and longer sight radius and no significant felt recoil. Also, it uses a sling so you can go hands free and keep it ready without re-holstering. So if you really are getting into a prolonged/running gun battle this is a better option.

One piece of advice that I’ve read that resonates with me is “don’t hang around to watch the show.” That is as true of a criminal attack on a third party as it is of a protest. If I see something that looks like it might go south, I GTFO immediately. The best way to win a fight is to not be there. Two people involved in a domestic? Call the police and GTFO. Three police cars involved in a traffic stop? GTFO. Demonstrators protesting? GTFO. The local baseball team having a parade because they won the pennant? I read about the planned parade the day before and I’m long gone.

I've been running a backpack gun intermittently since 2014, whenever there have been riots or whatnot. One thing that I keep in mine that you may consider is a piece of soft body armor. I have a level 2A vest that can be (mostly) concealed under a t-shirt. If you have time to deploy your long gun, you probably also have time to throw on a vest. It doesn't take up much space or weight, but you'll be glad you have it.

@@saltyp7573Do you even carry a backpack gun, and if so do you ACTUALLY keep armor with plates in the same rig? Of course you don't.... I have vests with level IV plates set up for other occasions, but I don't see the practicality for this particular application. Nearly all shootings in the US are with common handgun calibers such as 9mm, .40, or .45. Plates would double the weight of the system, and it's already a low probability that I would have to deploy it. The likelihood of certain situations is remote, it's true. Yes, always avoid or evade as a first choice! I live in a nice middle to upper middle class neighborhood. Very quiet. Virtually no crime. No murders in a town on 40k in over 50 years. Last weekend, someone tried to forcibly enter a friend/neighbor's home in the middle of the day when they were home! Thankfully, they didn't gain entrance and were scared away when the inhabitants screamed through the door. The statistical likelihood of an incident like this is remote...but it does happen. Great video. Personally, a 10.5" Brownell's BRN-180 upper paired with a folding stock/brace would make for a pretty good bag gun as well. It would be just as short as that AR9 and within $1200. I have a Sentinel Concepts Revelation II backpack and it fits this kind of setup perfectly. It also has a padded bottom to protect the muzzle and to prevent the bag from making a metallic "gun" sound when you place it on a hard surface. I have spoken to 3 different cops who've had to fire their patrol rifles indoors with no hearing protection and all have said that in the heat of the moment the blast was imperceptible to them, so that's something to consider. For something even more compact, a Sig P320 with the Flux MP17 chassis looks really promising. It weighs less than 3 pounds loaded, can fit a laptop sized bag and is borderline concealable under a thick jacket or raincoat.

As a follow-up to a previous comment of mine, I have nearly this exact same setup with a few key changes; A) I'm running the Blitzkrieg hydraulic 9mm buffer with a 308 flatwire spring for ultimate butter smoothness. A lesser known fact about running (some of) the hydraulic buffers with a CMMG RDB setup is that you have to run an A5 buffer tube. In order to get enough clearance for the bolt to achieve LRBHO you need that extra 3/4" lenght in the A5 tube. B) I'm running the Aero XL upper reciever. I did not have any problems running a standard upper reciever but switched to the XL just because I could. C) Other differences; BCM Mod3 grip, Rave 140 trigger, ILWC 3-lug, PRI gas buster CH, Radian talons, BAD lever, SBA3 brace D) HS503GACSS on a MI QD lower 1/3 mount, no BUIS (it's a range gun) E) IWC M-LOK barrier hand stop. I'd love to hear from you if you found any other options as far as a handstop that go all the way to the end of the rail. Additionally, I also struggled to find a light setup that would work with such a short rail (MI-CRM4.5) and did try the TRL RM 1 but quickly got rid of it because of the meek output. I've ultimately settled on running an 18350 Modlite with the PLHV2 head on an original Modlite Modbutton mount. The mount is what solved all my problems because it gives me low-pro mounting and a switch all in one. The mount keeps the light off to the side at the 1 o'clock position and allows you to grip the rail completely, with nothing in your way. Then when I want light I can activate the switch at the 12 o'clock position. The only downside to the Modbutton is it's momentary only but just add a DS00 as your connection switch and you can have constant on capabilities as well. The setup is SUPER pricey though and (probably) too much light for the gun so in hindsight I would probably just use an Arisaka 300 E1HT to save a couple hundred bucks and still have more than enough light for a PCC range gun.

You could already get the gun in this video chambered in 10mm (mags might be different). Personally, I'd go with a rifle caliber and a quick-detach/attach silencer to fix the broken eardrums problem. If I have time to take off my backpack and pull it out, I probably have time to stick on the silencer and give it a twist (takes about a second, I reckon). Then it's quieter and has much better ballistics. An alternative would be to go the route of a folding handguard and barrel system. Then you could have a longer barrel, perhaps even an integrally suppressed barrel, without increasing overall length in the backpack. Again, probably taking an extra second to deploy. But with a longer barrel, it's quieter and has better ballistics and you could use a standard stock and buffer tube to save money. An alternative for even smaller bags is to make a little cube-shaped AR pistol: folding brace, folding forend with shirt barrel, QD silencer. Overall length under 10". Or you could go even smaller with other PDWs. A PS90 wouldn't be a bad option and holds 50rds in the mag. Last stop in PDW land before you get to conventional handguns is something like the B&T TP9, which is small enough to be holstered on the body if necessary and certainly fits in most common bags people carry. It would fit in almost any backpack or satchel or purse. Some people could even conceal it well enough with a shoulder holster and a jacket. Works well with a QD silencer if desired, which could be kept in the bag alongside it.

@@Paelorian if you're going to be considering something like an SBR'd PS90, we may as well go all-out price wise and consider an SP5 that has been SBR'd, with an SP5K being the logical option if you're going as small as you can go.

I'm doing two backpack/truck/trunk guns myself; multicaliber AR pistols using the LEO Takedown. The default caliber for me is .300 BLK (when I can find the ammo) then down to .223 Rem/5.56mm NATO as a secondary caliber and ideally with a suppressor. My backback gun will be something that can function as a SBR. Current BATFE regulations allow cheek welding and shouldering of a braced pistol. Until this changes, I see little to no benefit to having a SBR over a braced pistol. There are videos of AR (braced) pistol vs. SBR. Not much of a difference in performance. You should go with an AR pistol because of the legal ramifications. You can take a pistol across State lines if you have a valid CCW honored in the State(s) your traveling through. You can also legally conceal an AR pistol. Many States extend lawful CCW to handguns only. A virgin stripped lower receiver or a pistol that was transferred to you as an *other* or "pistol" is legal to CC on our about your person in a backpack. It's *NOT* legal in many jurisdictions to conceal a SBR. This is the case in my home jursidiction of NV. My NV CFP (concealed firearms permit) only allows me to conceal a *handgun* not a *rifle*; your backpack gun is a SBR. If you were carrying your backpack gun in NV, you would be committing a crime. The only State off the top of my head that allows concealment of any firearm with their CCW is Utah. Their CFP (concealed firearms) permit is literally for any firearm. You could legally CCW a destructive device in Utah with a CCW they honor. I don't recommend doing that, but it is legal to do in Utah under their CCW statute. Go across the State line to NV, and it's handguns only. You're in TN, I've checked your CCW laws there, your CCW allows you to only carry concealed handguns. The legal issue is whether or not a cased rifle in condition three or cruiser carry (empty chamber, loaded magazine) is legal within your State. I'm erring on the side of caution of discouraging people in the States I'm familiar with to go with an AR pistol over a SBR especially if they have a valid CCW. An AR pistol will give you the same PDW functionality as a SBR and you don't have to deal with the BATFE permission slip to cross State lines with it. You need BATFE permission to take a SBR out of State which is what makes IMO a SBR a very bad idea. If you live in a border town such as Kansas City KS/MO or Portland OR which is along the OR/WA State line. Many WA residents work in OR and vice versa and have the regular daily work commute of crossing the Columbia River via I-5 or I-205. We all know how bad things are in Portland OR; it's regularly made the national news. You would be foolish not to have a backpack gun in Portland OR. This would be a major concern for anyone as they may regularly go across State lines to conduct your normal business. If I have to downgrade to 9x19mm which is what my handgun EDC is, I'm going to either be using the CMMG converted 9x19mm mags or the Stern Defense SIG P250/P320 mag well adapter. My EDC is a SIG P250 in 9x19mm. If I'm carrying a PDW that's the same caliber as my EDC handgun, I want magazine interchangeability with my handgun with my backpack/truck/trunk gun. There are 30 round SIG P250/P320 mags available from ETS. I haven't decided if I'm going to have a separate complete upper for 9x19mm or just the BCG and barrel and do a quick barrel change via the LEO Takedown. Whatever one decides to do, your primary objective if you're dealing with civil unrest and need your backpack gun, your priority should be getting out of Dodge and to safety. I agree with having large can or extinguisher of OC spray. I'm partial to Fox Labs products. Know the laws in your area. Your backpack gun being a SBR may very well be illegal for local, State or Federal reasons.

I don't know the specifics of your situation, but consider these thoughts: - If you're defending a business, you'd likely be proactive and already have a long gun out anyway, and you'd want it to be a rifle and not a PCC. You would likely also be able to proactively put yourself in an advantageous position. - If you're in a city and rioting begins close to you, it's not like things change like a flash of light, there's buildup. If you have any awareness at all, you'll likely see tensions gradually build and you can get out of there. And if you're confronted on your way out of danger, what is the chance that your 5+ second back pack gun deployment is going to be a better option than just drawing your handgun or running? Very slim chance.

Everyone wants to be the first to spout HURR DURR THE PDW HAS SUPPLANTED THE PCC, but the keyboard warriors forget that part of the close protection role involves a mixture of crowd control and highly precise point shooting with a heavily populated background. You may need to snap off a quick, accurate shot into a threat that has innocent people around or behind them. And while your Tier One bearded OPERATORs can likely pull that off on any given day with an 8-inch 5.56, Johnny Jerkface most likely can't, no matter how many classes with obese "ex-cop" washout instructors he took. And all the training in the world won't stop a rifle round of any sort from overpen-ing a skinny target and hiting someone you didn't intend to hit. Thus, the humble 9/.40/.45 carbine-configuration "pistol" steps up to the plate.

No stitching required. Run u maybe 20 bucks on ebay. Anything 4 - 10.5" a 2 point I find just gets in the way, even though u have a full stock. I'm wondering, if you need to go to a bigger gun from a pistol, why would you use anything less than a rifle caliber? Why are you shooting a backpack gun in the car when a pistol can handle that situation? Why would you want a pistol caliber if you're carrying a backpack and are more worried about self defense? If you need it, and lawfully deploy it, a jury of non gun people will still look at your short rifle and treat it with the same attitude as a folded stock short 5.56. The fact that it's an sbr will also be some sort of scary buzz word to them. If you need a different gun with greater power or accuracy capabilities, get a Glock 40mos and put a red dot on top, tailor your ammo to be an upgrade from your cc pistol, and you can fit it in the smallest of packs or even concealed on your person. A rifle caliber or shotty is what you need if you think your cc handgun is insufficient, moving to a pistol caliber on a different platform doesn't make much sense to me.

Mossberg Shockwave is not designed to shoot 1.5" shells nor was it designed to operate with aftermarket parts built into it's guts. Not at all saying this isn't a viable setup, just saying be wary of malfunctions. 👍🏻🍻

The main benefit he said was hitting his target. For the cost Of that setup he would be way better off spending money on a reloading rig and range time. There is significant legal implications to having to use this carbine in a self defense situation. I think he’s doing a disservice suggesting this rig. A 9mm pistol with a excellent holster and plenty of range time would be a better option

Uncivil Discourse keltec sub 2000 if you’re on a budget. Definitely best bang for your buck. You can get a palmetto blowback setup for a good bit cheaper but you either need a dedicated 9mm lower or a block that goes in the mag well.

Geo metro 95 the sub 2000 is a good choice. I’d personally pick a Ruger PC Charger because it’s so compact. I’m a little hesitant on mag block adapter AR-9’s for self defense. They’re not known for being very reliable compared to dedicated lowers or the CMMG mag kits

best advice I've ever gotten..."if you need to carry a gun to a part of town you might need it...don't go to that part of town"...i do carry concealed every day...but i don't go places where i need a rifle...you're just asking for a trip to the can ...a backpack gun has its uses for certain missions...but you come across a jury and try to explain what you were doing there knowing the situation and showed up armed like that...your goose is cooked because you could have avoided the entire situation by not going..
@nezhara5531
@nezhara5531 3 жыл бұрын
Disagree you could need to go to those places whether you want to or not. Have family stuck in a riot asking for your help to get to safety? Need to protect your business that you worked so hard to build and is your only source of income? Sometimes you can't just sit on your ass and not go somewhere because its unsafe and sometimes the " safe" areas become unsafe in minutes and you are already there. We saw what they did to drivers on the Highway. You bring the bag gun in case you need it. The concept is no different than why you carry a hand gun everywhere you go because you rather have it and not need it than need it and not have it
@gixxerlouis
@gixxerlouis 3 жыл бұрын
@@nezhara5531 then you are on a mission…like I said in my statement…if you don’t need to go there don’t… if you’re going there for a purpose like you suggested then go armed…but if it’s a bad part of town and you know it and have no reason to be there the choice is yours…I choose to stay away.

Rifles are better than pistols because: 1. They have stocks so they're easier to aim and control while shooting 2. They are deadlier because of bigger caliber rounds and long barrels, sending bullets out at 2500 to 3000 fps which causes rapid tearing wound channels (Luckygunner made a video about this with Federal). If you're using a 5" inch barrel with 9mm rounds, aren't you getting the same ballistic performance as a pistol? Why not just use a glock with a folding stock at that point?

I train more often with an AR15 than any other platform. This gun would be much more familiar ergonomically than a pistol brace pistol and if I decided I was going to use it, my gear is set up for 5.56 so easy transistion there as well. If you train with a pistol more. I can see how a pistol brace for said pistol would be a smarter choice.

@EcchiRevenge
@EcchiRevenge 4 жыл бұрын
With a 5inch barrel you're going to get very bad performance with 5.56 due to severely diminished muzzle velocity(reliable fragmentation generally requires above 2700fps, 5 inches of barrel won't even get near that) anyway. So essentially you're probably getting worse performance with 5.56(not counting those custom loaded with fast-burning handgun powder which is a different can of worms) than you would with 5.7 at 5in. barrel; hence his choice of handgun rounds.

I can't see how a fancy and expensive pistol is any better than a 15 round mag handgun, it takes a lot of time to get a gun out of a backpack, it takes almost no time to pull a gun from a holster, and I don't have to carry a big ass backpack everywhere I go, I live about 100 miles from Knoxville, in Chattanooga, I spend about 10 weekends a year there seeing VOLS games, gun shows, or just to get out of town, I think it's a lot safer than Chattanooga, and I'm ok with carrying my gen 5 Glock 19, or sig p938 with a 10 round mag, I do enjoy most of your videos.

My backpack gun is a Kel Tec sub2000 9mm. Super reliable and very easy to upgrade to even make it more durable and reliable. It's also very light because the polymer that is incorporated in the firearm. It folds in half down to 16 inches. The bearel is 16in long giving more velocity to the 9mm round and boosting the velocity up there with 357mag velocity.

If youre going to the trouble of carrying a backpack gun thats pistol caliber at least make it ballistically more effective than you pistol. Aim for something like an 7-8” barrel otherwise youre basically carrying a heavier 2nd pistol (yes, 3rd point of contact makes it easier to get hits but the wounding is the same).... also make sure the ammo you load it with is effective at higher velocity. Most hollow points are designed to work at a certain velocity and higher velocities can cause them to do weird things and be less effective

I sort of agree, sort of disagree here. I like my Sig mcx virtus with folding brace but I think if ur gonna lug this shit around u might as well have the firepower advantage of a medium rifle round. And I know there’s a lot of dudes out there running this stuff down cuz these short barrels really give up a lot of energy for the space savings but still way more power than a handgun round fires from a handgun

And you're going to have a flashbang on your rifle without any ear/eye protection, not the best idea if you're in a bad situation and you need to be aware of what is near you. For this job .45 ACP could be a really good option if you need more power than 9mm
