I sang this at Primary School, with the boys singing the part of the sailor, and the girls singing the part of the lass . Probably using the mentioned school song book. Lifelong love of folk music since.

Lovely. I have all the early Steeleye Span vinyl LPs and have enjoyed folk music for more than 60 years. Fay, Briony and Jon epitomise all that was good about folk clubs in the 1970s. Tatty venue, marvellous talent, and still fun when the floor singers were learning their trade (or not)!

There still are folk clubs you know. Certainly around Gloucestershire.

Marvellous! A favourite. Like Bryony I too listened to the Steeleye version abedroomed. Happy days. Brought a tear to the throat and a lump to the eye.Love the 'Bryony' ocean!

Thanks again, Lesley. I really appreciate these posts. Makes me desperate for Blighty though. Wonderful performance.

I loved the Steeleye Span version of this in my young years as well! Very pretty rendition here. Nice!
