You nailed the main two reasons. With my family , friends and colleagues here in the US ( and in India) Modi supporters are also Trump supporters. ( Another reason for this is even though Democrat Presidents are trying to have a good relationship with India , but also time and again bring up issues of religious , and other issues, which angers Modi supporters who are hyper sensitive to any such criticism. Whereas Trump is least concerned with such issues and hence has further garnered their support. The very smart Jaisshanker has also being irked by this). In India you see the same reaction by Indian media who have a slant towards one political party. The other reason also is irrespective of Trump , higher income earning Indians who don’t want to pay higher Taxes ( as one of the major criteria even for Non Indians in America) vote Republican. So yes.. you have pretty much got the main reasons for Indians voting Democrats , Republicans, Kamala or Trump 👍.

I wouldn’t say that ALL Indians are rejecting Kamala Harris. The American Presidency signals so much to the rest of the world. Having a president who is educationally qualified, has common sense, has balanced views of the world, can hold contrarian thoughts to find a middle ground - is a drastic step away from strongman politics. Political news is supposed to be boring as hell. I would like for the world to return to normal conversation of boring as hell policies instead of leaders who are invested in playing with the republic through inflammatory populist fears. From a policy perspective, we need US president who believes in climate change and continues to uphold the Paris Climate agreement. Also, reproductive freedom should be a given in the seat of democracy… reversal in progress of women’s rights in US signals that it’s okay to meddle with women’s liberties to the rest of the world. It’s also great to have a world leader talk about affordable housing and child care. For me, she wins on all these fronts.
@FayeDSouza24 күн бұрын
I agree with you. Climate change and inequality should be top of mind. And Gaza
@prachiegohil76024 күн бұрын
@FayeDSouza from what I’ve heard of Kamala Harris and rest of the Democrats, they are now supportive of a 2 state solution. Trump would probably wash his hands off the issue and let Netanyahu continue with his plans. It’s unclear whether he’d stop funding the war. So, I don’t think either side has a reasonably solid solution on Gaza. Solving that issue will require more global intervention and is an opportunity for the new world order to influence. But that’s just my perception of the issue. Looking to hear from trusted news veterans like you to bring more light to the issue!

If should be Trump for President as he will take action on illegal migrants and contain inflation. His past Presidency showed that his term improved the job scenario and contained inflation. He also resonates the American dream and is Catholic in his religious beliefs in not approving abortions. Faye is not only inexperienced but evaded all interview questions regarding her policy. Can't say whether she's pro Biden policies or wants to start a new generation of leadership. She hasn't kept ties with India despite being of Indian descent. She keeps changing her descent from Indian to Black and oddly attends Black church services when she's not even Christian. All to garner Black votes. She's not strong on illegal immigrants. And now promises to do something about it but wasn't it her who opened the US gates to them? They were responsible for much crime in the US. She's critical and bad mouthed and will stoop to any extent to win.

Trump. I think anyone in the left should support Trump. The control over mainstream media , the censorship attempts of social media platforms by democrats are eerily similar to what BJP is doing here in India. He has been facing a political witch hunt in the last few years. Trump's rhetoric are excessive and tiring but not that of a fascists as the MSM would want people to believe. With the likes of Dick Cheney endorsing Kamala its clear as daylight that she is the preferred candidate of military industrial complex. I find it baffling to find that anyone who protested for Palestine is willing to vote for a candidate who is 'honored' to be endorsed by someone responsible for the murder of 300,000 Iraqi civilians.

There is a section of the Indian-origin voting population that consistently votes Republican for a straightforward reason: lower taxes. Several bought into the idea that their taxes mostly go towards welfare for “lazy” people, which is also a reflection of their learned wisdom about black people. These individuals benefit from all the public services (roads, schools, social security, etc. ) but haven’t taken the time to understand America or what taxes provide in America. Trump delivers a tadka of Muslim bashing and a bro hug with Modi. There is also misogyny and bias against black people in play here. A word of caution, Faye. What will be will be but there is a good chance that the polls are way off. A simple explanation is that practically no one answers phone calls from unknown callers, so the population sample the polls are based on is probably very suspect. I have already voted for Harris because she is a conventional Democratic politician with whom I have no problems. I also consider myself an “over-informed” voter because I constantly try to understand my adopted country. The alternative is a nihilist who lacks a governing philosophy, a moral core, and basic decency. He is also a convicted rapist and felon. Character matters. Several commentators have mentioned Jill Stein. Jill Stein is that perpetual vanity candidate who shows up every 4 years, has never won so much as an election for county dog catcher, and is missing in action between presidential elections. She talks a good game but then gives it away when she reveals how she is funded by super PACs supporting the Republicans. I want more parties in the fray, but Jill Stein and the so-called Green Party barely make any contribution to the discourse and revel in playing spoiler. There is an obvious choice in this election, and it isn’t Jill Stein.

I cannot vote since I am on my student visa-work visa yet…here is my perspective….i personally like Harris and I agree with most of her stand ranging from reproductive rights to taxes however her stand on undocumented immigrants is a bit disappointing…Biden administration is giving quick EADs to the undocumented immigrants however student population who applies for EAD (work authorizations) have to wait for months. Also, for accomodating undocumented immigrants, the fees for visas/forms that we apply for have been increased (is this fair with us?)… So in a nutshell, if I was a citizen like you I would have gone ahead and voted for Harris but as a struggling student I prefer Trump only because of the undocumented immigrants slowing down the work authorizations/GC processing with a hope that our lives might get easy!! @@omkargavade Good point. And I empathize because I have been through the American immigration system and know how frustrating it is. The most significant difference between the 2 is that Harris can be expected to try and solve a problem, and Trump can be expected to milk the issue for personal gain. That doesn’t mean that Harris will solve it because if she wins and doesn’t have the House and Senate, then she is going to be stymied at every turn by the GOP. But I do get your frustration. Not having predictability in immigration is the biggest issue facing legal immigrants, particularly Indians in IT.

This landmark legislation aimed to end discrimination based on race, color, religion, sex, or national origin. Indian immigration to the United States began to increase significantly after the Immigration and Nationality Act of 1965, which was signed into law by President Johnson on October 3, 1965. This act abolished the national origins quota system that had previously restricted immigration from non-European countries, leading to a notable rise in the number of Indian immigrants to the U.S. in the years that followed.
