The Sears in Fayette Mall is long gone now, I did a walkthrough vid in November 2013 to capture its last days.

Here in Canada, Sears has taken a HUGE hit. As a Kid, I remember going to Sears was a Special occassion. The Best Clothes, Tools, Home wares, you name it were all found there. However, times change and Sears just didn't change with it, I feel. The best indication of Sears these days happened Recently here in the Greater Toronto Area. Where in live in the GTA, there WAS a two storey Sears Store in the Mall near me, and it closed 3 or 4 years ago. Now, its a Winners. However, one of the BIGGEST Malls in Ontario, especially here in the GTA (besides the Eaton Center) was Square One Mall. Its a HUGE Mall, one of the Provinces biggest, plus its a TOURIST MALL, which means it stays open on Days when everything else is closed. The Sears store there, which always seemed to do Good business, Shut down. One of the BUSIEST Malls and they couldn't stay open. The Bay is still open, but Sears is now long gone. ALOT of Sears I know have all shut Down.

The main problem with this particular store is the connection to the other wing of the building, it would have cost so much more to add a new pathway or to have sears rebuild their store in another location linking to the mall. This had been talked about for at least ten years prior to the initial demolition. In terms of facade redevelopment and internal, it was a win win for tenants and shoppers due to the new pathway being a part of the journey into the smaller retail shops especially since these specific people not having to go through a department store just to get to the other side. In my opinion it looks and feels fabulous and I hope sears make a comeback and builds onto the current mall possibly on the back end.

this was the Sears my family went to for years. sad when it went, but at that point we were much less frequent shoppers so it wasn't a big change

Extremely nice Sears, and an extremely nice mall! At the beginning, you said that they would be tearing it down soon. Why does the mall want to demolish the Sears store. I wonder if their contract may have expired, and the mall did not want to renew it with them. It looks like absolutely nothing is wrong with it, the Sears store, for it to be demolished soon. Thanks very much!!!

***** Thanks very much for your reply. I hate very much how the Sears/Kmart company is slowly falling apart. I have always loved both stores and will definitely dread the time where the whole company will be no more, and Wal-mart finally out conquers all of the once smaller department stores that people like me, would rather shop anytime versus the gigantic crowds you always find at Wal-mart.

I always liked Sears stores so it must have been a string of bad business moves. The worst of which was buying Kmart which tanked after they bought it. No Kmart stores were remodeled. The only remaining Kmart I know of in my area is ironically in a mall, Rotterdam Square, which is anchored by both Kmart and Sears. Anyway, the Sears stores which are not closing are doing drastic remodels. A good example is Sears in Colonie Center. They leased out a portion of the lower floor making the shape of the interior even more odd. Probably you can find pictures online. But this brings me to my next point - what is the stigma about filming or photographing retail locations? Struggling malls for example. Yes they don't want people to see that they are struggling, but isn't that just hurting themselves more? "This is so bad we don't want anyone to see it". Not to mention negative press from people saying "I was kicked out for filming even though there's no signs that say no photography". I would like to take pictures of retail in general, both thriving and struggling, but the odd looks and possibility of being kicked out keeps me from it. So kudos to you for doing what you're doing and keep it up!

Good question, I always get odd looks for doing this. So much that I try to hide the fact that I am filming anymore. Thank you for your interest and my very amateur work!
