It's really sad to see Fayetteville like that. I lived in that city for 11 years. It has a rough reputation, well because it is kind of a rough city, but I have some great memories from living there too. I still live in North Carolina, and I hope this beautiful state will come together and help everyone who suffered loss during this hurricane.

My heart sunk when you went into the building, I thought you were going to be trapped in there for sure, even looked like the water was closer to the top of the door on your way out. Flood waters nasty. I've heard of people dying from small cuts in flood water. Cool video though, Crazy to see Fayetteville like that, I lived there a few years back. Happy to be back in Maine now though.

This is so sad. The places I love the most, flooded. My boyfriend lives in Clarkton. The only gas station open right now is in Fayettville. Lumberton, Bladenborro, Clarkton, parts of Whiteville this is all so sad to me!! Absolutely breaks my heart seeing Fayettvile like this. God bless you all!!! And stay safe out there ❤️

Me and my husband where in Charleston and that AF base told my husband to evacuate. We ended up driving up to Fayetteville to ride it over at my Sister-in-law's place. Bad idea. We where going to use a road to get back home but the asphalt had been washed away leaving a huge, impassable gap in the road. When that was a bust, we tried for hours until it was 11 at night with a very unhappy toddler and 2 dogs because every road was flooded. Even though we have a big truck, we weren't going to risk anything with our son in the car so we just needed up going back to my Sister-in-law's house until day light so we could see better. Finally got back after 4 hours of twisting/flooded roads and dead ends and traffic. Back home in Charleston. Nothing. Even had power. The irony is laughable.

This is why people should worry about a hurricane, even if it is a cat 1. Matthew hit as a cat 1 and did THIS. Some cat 5s dont have alot of storm surge, some cat 1s do, or even tropical storms. People should really worry about storm surge more than they do.

Packages are most likely safe. The main post office handles letters and envelopes, they were all rerouted to Charlotte. Packages are processed at a facility in Fayetteville about five-ten miles further north in a building that hasn't been affected.

@jccaine75228 жыл бұрын
This type of idiocy is why I no longer live in Fayetteville. Do not encourage people to do this. Flood waters are extremely dangerous. They can surge quickly, causing people to get trapped inside a building. Waters are also contaminated because of flooded sewers. If someone were kayaking and fell into the water, they could be swept under the current. Even if they were able to get back into the boat, they risk disease due to the fecal matter in the water. Someone this March from my hometown of St. Tammany died doing this EXACT same thing-- kayaking during a flood. They fell out of the kayak and died. Video has been reported for encouraging dangerous acts.

Decided to edit your comment because you realized how stupid you sounded earlier? Keep on editing until you're outta here, buddy. People are very capable of making their own decisions. If anything, this will encourage people to not try to navigate downtown, kayak or otherwise. If they decide to go out and do this after seeing this video, their life is in their own hands. Good luck with your "report". Thank you for sharing this with us Mark, very harrowing and glad you're okay.

This is interesting but you need to be careful. Nature doesn't care about your rank and kayaks are flimsy. Go ask you wife/parents/kids if that 500,000 death payout is worth losing a son/husband/father to something as dumb as drowning during the aftermath of a hurricane. To everyone else, I'm so sad to see downtown flooded. They've tried so hard to fix it up and now...who among our mom and pop stores could have afforded flood insurance in Fayetteville? I've lived on fort Bragg for nine years and I've haven't seen something this bad since the tornado in April of 11.
