FAZLEY vs. HARLEY BENTON goldies

I had never done a Head To Head of the Fazley Midas Gold top and the Harley Benton SC450 p90 GT, and, as I sold the Midas, it wouldn't be possible.
BUT with a new video editor, I have made it happen....Let me know in the comments which one YOU think is best.

Both pretty close, but I think the Harley Benton just pipped it. being a left-handed player I’d love Harley Benton to bring out her left-handed version of his guitar

They both have their strengths, Jonny... I've recently converted to the Church of Steve Cassidy re: neck profiles. I find a 9.5" radius far easier for bends and stretches and associated 'twiddly bits'. I do love my Epi and Tokai LPs for chugging on for punk rock and classic rock riffing, but a 9.5, or a 10 like a PRS would be an absolute game changer

I'm going to be honest here. It REALLY depends on the guitar since they both do the Les Paul thing. You have to play them side by side. Through my phone's speaker, they both sound close so it would be more of a feel based deal for me. Now I have an Epiphone Les Paul Special in TV Yellow that I waited 20+ years for them to make. I did swap the bridge for a Wilkinson one and I replaced the cheap capacitors with Orange Drops. Looks wise I swapped the black knobs with Fender Amp Witch hat style ones, put a pinup girl on it and changed out the switch ring to say "Search & Destroy." I have D'Addario NYXL 11s on it so it does the Social Distortion thing extremely well. So it really scratches my itch for a Gold Top even though it's just a Special.😉👍✨

I would swap it out to 50s tone pot wiring. ( if I was going to have any wired 50s, that would be it )

The HB was a clearer more defined sound. Though if the audio chain was any different between the two that might have something to do with it. Both clearly excellent for the money

Script type-oh: :5:22 " two classic ceramic humbuckers "....those look, and sound, enough like single coil P-90 type pickups that I am sure people can figure that out. I like P-90 sound better than humbuckers; but same, same, on the goldtops. but I would have to give it to the HB.

The HB has the more traditional look to it with the stain back and just having gold on top, with the chrome hardware too. Both sound great and are excellent picks for the money 👍

Of the four Harley Benton's I own the gold top is the only one that needed fret work other than the usual sitting in the warehouse muck. It had small tooling scratch's like maybe the guy started it went lunch and forgot to polish it when he got back. Other than that it is a fine guitar

Budget Guitars can be a crap shoot. Mine is fine though. No work needed, same as the Fazley

Hi Jonny, I'd be really biased here if I picked a favourite because it would have to be the Harley Benton, but that's because I have one and I've really bonded with that guitar. On Monday this week it really made me realise just what a nice guitar it is. I went into a local guitar store to try out some Gibsons. I had a play on a brand new Les Paul modern lite first which cost just a bit north of a grand and expected to be blown away by it and quite honestly I wasn't. It sounded great. I expected it to be as smooth as butter to play, but it would need a serious bit of setting up to get that guitar nicely playable. You would have thought a shop with a range of quality guitars on display with four figure price tags would check them first. I certainly wouldn't swap that for my HB.

Didnt think there'd be such a difference. Loving the 450. The Fazely pups just don't appeal to my ear. Great clip Johnny..in hindsight maybe your soind gear has greater acuity now than when you recorded the Fazely??

I did give the details of the Fazley first then played it, then the Harley Benton details and then played that.

You did mention details without mentioning brand name and not showing headstock. Rewatched it and it is a fact. Never mind. I have a HB one they are pretty good after a good set up the second hand market value is insane, I bought it for £50.
