Hi all, thanks for dropping in just a quick message to apologise I had to mute the Quo playing bit in this weeks film, apparently it was too good 🤣and the copyright police flagged it up as a 'revenue share' which means they would give all my ad revenue to the owners BMG so I have muted it. Full unredacted version can be seen and heard on the TV channel theguitaristas.tv if you fancy signing up for a month or year to support this channel and make such things unnecessary in the future. Cheers hope you like this weeks video! Col 😎

My '19 Gibson Les Paul classic has 4 push pulls for splits, phase and circuit bypass and I felt the same at first, but actually I love having the options. "Option paralysis".... Spot on. Can't be the only person who wants to keep things simple Colin. With a relatively simple amp - Fender Blues Junior Ltd tweed and a dozen pedals, I really don't need all these options on the guitar too. I'd just end up sitting there fiddling, rather than playing. I've just given my friend a 2015 Les Paul Junior in TV yellow to take back to Thailand. It's a beauty. One pickup, one volume, one tone...even has the (much derided) G-Force tuners which I love - press one button to tune/re-tune. SIMPLE !!

Hi Colin. I'm off work today so was able to watch within the 'algorithm window'! A really useful and informative video as always. It was so informative that I've cancelled my order with Thomann for this guitar! I'm not one of those in the market for a four figure guitar and the £400-£600 range is my spot in the market as my skill level doesn't warrant anything more expensive! Your view on the electrics and the tuners was really useful for me; I liked the look of the guitar (I quite like the gold) and thought it would be a good buy. I'd have no intention of going down the modding route so I just want a guitar that works well out of the box and there are plenty in this price band that would do that. It may be that you've got a bad example, but doesn't look like the overall quality is there. That's a shame as I have a Squier Mustang that is a great little thing. Thanks again.

Scratch plate V pick guard My guitar teacher 45sh years age said a pick guard was near the strings (eg around the sound hole on a flat top), They became scratch plates when they extended beyond that to protect the body, especially on electrics around the knobs. Thanks for another entertaining in depth review Colin. A couple of thoughts, if I may?: 'Pickguard' is American; 'scratchplate' is British; 'plectrum protection' is up for grabs. Please, please don't start saying 'front' and 'back' pickups as I will be utterly confused and start crying. Please use some fretboard oil on your rosewoodish style fingerboards while you have the strings off so I don't have to wonder how much better they would look any more! This guitar absolutely should have come with three ply black 'plectrum protection'. No twin pickup guitar should ever be out of phase in the middle position unless it's a Greenie clone as it just sounds weird and tinny and broken. Coil splitting PAF output humbuckers always sounds thin and weedy and never like a good single coil. These are just my thoughts but obviously the varying mileage rule always applies. Keep up the great work mate. Friday lunchtime just wouldn't be the same without you.😊

Here in the U.S. they never came close to the status(!) they attained in the U.K. Based on your fandom, I had decided to order some Status Quo CDs or vinyl. Sadly, after the label's petty nonsense with your video, I will not be doing so. Heaven forbid an internet persona should creat fans for a label's artists. Second: I thin I am with you with the "less is more" qualities of affordable guitars. I bought a PRS SE model a few months ago, but it has splitting and tapping on both pickups. It's like an unpaid job getting the "right" tone out of this thing, for me. I have three T-style guitars that all sound different. I now know, that is a good thing ...

My mij Troublemaker is very different to this version. It's perhaps my best finished guitar. Mahogany body, none of the push/pull options, just standard (1,2,3) switching, chrome not gold hardware etc. However, it's really dark sounding and you get very little out of the tone controls & volume - there's really no cleanup. So, I find it rather limited. I've kept it as I've always wanted to change the pickups & give it some versatility and clarity. Not really any of the chime you got here! Cheers Col.

I understand that we all have different tastes in tone, the playability of a guitar, etc.; however something that I simply don't understand is option paralysis when it comes to something like this. If you don't like the additional sounds available by push/pull, just... don't pull. Then it's a Les Paul layout, which we can all agree is not complicated. To me, it's like sitting in a new car, pointing to a button, and asking the salesperson what that does. "It changes the vehicle to all-wheel drive," they answer. "Very useful in certain circumstances." "But I don't want that option," I reply, then point to something else and ask what that is. "Paddle shifters," they answer. "You can drive standard if you'd like." "But I thought this was an automatic?" "It is, there's just an option if you'd like." "There's too many options," I answer. "I can't drive well when there are two many options." "One, that makes no sense, and two, just don't touch those buttons then." "Doesn't matter, they're still there!" I say this in jest, but it's the only way I can describe how odd this is whenever I hear guitar channels complain about something like this. Also, I'd disagree with the "Jack of all trades, master of none" analogy, as you can get fantastic pickups now that sound incredible regardless of if split, or altered in any way. I can't say if that's the case with these, having not heard one in the room, but your playing sounded good to me. Anyway, thanks for the review. I'd been wondering about this one.
@russcottee2 ай бұрын
I had an Epiphone Blueshawk a few years back and that offered the same 'option overload', to which you also had a 'varitone' switch. From your demo, I'd agree that it's potentially a jack-of-all-trades but also a 'master of none'. Personally, I wouldn't entertain the idea of upgrading all the parts you outlined, unless you're happy to write off the associated cost. At the end of the day, it's still a Squier and the PX value won't recoup the outlay - rather like fitting a top of the range sound system in an old Fiesta! Good video - sorry learn you got stung by the copyright police 👮🚔- best wishes

Hi Colin, i love yiur channel and enjoy yiur playing. This video caught my attention when yiu said the guitar disnt initially work then started working. Earlier this year i bought a Squier Paranormal Esquire Deluxe (Humbucker, 3 way rotary switch, split coil, Humbucker through the controls, Humbucker straight out through the jack). When i brought it home it worked fine then after 20 mins would only work i split coil mode. Tookit back and got a replacement that dis the same thing. Tried it with a different amp and lead, same issue. I took it appary but nothing was loose so i treated the switch to a cleaning and out it back together. Same issue. Decided to use it until it stopped working the grab a different guitar. Just wondering if any of your viewers have had the same problem with that model and figured it out. Cheers!

When you said “that other thing I had my eye on” a guitar flashed up for a fraction of a second. It looked Gibsonesque

Maybe a little harsh. Sounded good on video. Hardware can be changed easily enough. Looks fantastic. But, in the end, if you're not inspired, then it doesn't matter how much it costs or what it looks like

All well and good, really. What's not to like about a humbucker-equipped telecaster with a Jazzmaster/Jaguar neck? If it were mine, I'd replace the knobs with either knurled or Gretsch-style knobs and remove the scratchplate (or maybe replace it with a black pearloid one). Maybe even add a Bigsby B5. Thus making it somewhat fussier... Sounds quite sweet and versatile.

Would look cool with a B5 though! 🤔

Should have played Keef Richards riffs then. The Stones don't seem to bother with people on youtube. I agree too many features for my limited ability and ADD😂. I am really giving some serious thought to getting the Yungblud after watching your review. Have a good weekend Colin and stay safe over there.
