This experimental Jabiru with 3300 engine is equipped with all Rotec upgrades. Namely the Liquid Cooled Heads (LCH), TBI fuel system, E-ignition and 45 Amp Alternator conversion kit.

Be a good market for water cooled VW heads, that would make room to pull a lot more hp.

I take it that if it dropped its coolant, it wouldn't overheat on a low throttle setting. Nice peace of kit.

Yes like any liquid cooled engine it would overheat if it lost all its coolant. But it’s good enough for the Rotax 912 right?

This is such an easy fix and should have been done years ago, water cool the barrels and heads. Why would they think this design would work when it was a major problem on the VW s. Just look at water cooled motorbikes barrels and heads there's nothing bulky about them. Heads far better that the water cooled heads on them today it all looks like it's an afterthought to many connections for leaks to happen, the more parts the more chance of failure's and just think of the room you would gain if the water cooling galleries ran through the block just under the cylinder heads with a water gallery on each side of the barrels you have done away with all those bulky pipes and banjo bolts and doing away with all those cooling fins would give more room to work on the engine and having a constant engine temps means longer engine life and service intervals and on real hot days on take off your not worrying if you gotta open the door and push your passenger out. Dont get me wrong l love this plane but dont like a engine you need to babysit in the hotter weather. Would love to see bigger engine size as standard fully water cooled fuel injected and turbo and I still think they could be the cheapest motor on the market

I admire your work. Are Rotec heads manufactured from a harder alloy (or heat treated, hard anodized, nitrided) to achieve greater hardness? Or does their stability result only from their much lower operating temperatures?

Heads are made from classic 356 casting alloy, typically used on bike heads. Heat treated tempered and shot peened. But the resilience comes from them being liquid cooled and always staying well under their yield temperature.

With the TBO and the LCH is there any improvement in horsepower? I apologize if you’ve answered this a few dozen times already. I do recognize that there are other clear advantages.

More to the point is LCH will maintain good HP consistently by staying cool and avoiding detonation.

Are the New Jabiru engines still the same ?, I was told that they have improved them and they are much stronger and at least long lasting. I don't know how old this engine is that you are converting, maybe it is one of the generation one engines and Not a generation 4. If it is a Generation 4, how come Jabiru haven't TRIED to fix the well known problem?. If they have not,that would be disgusting, considering how much money they are asking for their Jabiru's and engines now.

There’s not much history on the latest gen 4 engines. Our equipment is made for the earlier engines with steel cylinders. Fix the cooling and we find these are generally strong.
