I'm currently playing The Last Of Us Part 1 in Cachy OS and it just runs and plays brilliantly. I'm in Xfce version of Cachy OS. I'm hoping to play and record the whole of my Steam library, put them up on my channel. Cannot go wrong with Cachy OS.

@@RedSntDK I used to run Peppermint OS 10, which was Lubuntu with Xfce as it's desktop environment. I used to game in that, playing Shadow Of The Tomb Raider before it got ported to Linux by Feral Interactive. I was running DDR3 back then in 2018, Peppermint 10 just said yes to everything I chucked at it. Cachy OS is like that too, though I think the team at Cachy have concentrated more on KDE and Gnome more than Xfce, because Xfce version is a little buggy here and there, hence why as my daily driver I run Linux Mint 22 Xfce Edition. I have two computers with the same specs. Use Cachy purely for gaming and Linux Mint for everyday tasks and video rendering.

One of my favorite games wouldn't play audio on SteamOS recently, and wouldn't play on Windows at all. I read that there was Protontricks settings required to be enabled to play properly. Protontricks crashed when trying to open on SteamOS, but instead of troubleshooting Protontricks, I chose to install CachyOS Handheld Edition instead, and Protontricks worked fine and fixed the game for me, and gives me the same experience as SteamOS, except it's a real Arch Linux and not an immutable OS, so it's like SteamOS for power users. I also have CachyOS Desktop Edition on my laptop.

I've been using CachyOS since May now, [geez time flew by that fast?] and I can say that it is amazing, and it feels so much better than Windows, and doesnt feel clunky either, it feels like how an OS is supposed to feel like.

I use both Linux (on laptop) and Windows (on desktop). I am surprised with the progress that Linux has gone through when it comes to Windows Game Compatibility. Though it isn't perfect yet as compatibility with games that use some form of anti-cheat can be hit or miss, many Windows-based games have been made to run on Linux with minimal performance impact. However, Anti-Cheat compatibility isn't just an issue for gaming on Linux's end, as some game devs are running an anti-cheat that is made Linux-Ready by the anti-cheat's devs but the game devs refuse to enable support for it. I hope the anti-cheat issues within Linux can be solved in the not too distant future, if that happens I might leave Windows all together.

Ebeez, what you need to understand that those who play AC "protected" games, which are the most popular games, will not migrate to this platform, if their game does not work. We need to help AC by providing a trusted (as in hardware root of trust) Wine environment. This is a big challange, but it will make it so that developers can choose to fully trust the environment similar to Android, while excluding the possibility of out-of-tree code running in kernel mode.

I'm just moving to CachyOS now. I've always prefered Arch based distros, and I ran Arch full time for ages. I've been distro hopping the last 6-7 months to get an idea on which to recommend to friends as & when they come knocking. Bazzite for the less computer literate gamer friends, and most likely CachyOS once they feel ready to take on a fully unlocked distro.

I play maybe 4 or 5 games, Civ5, Rocket League, Cyberpunk 2077, modded Fallout New Vegas (~100 mods) and Minecraft. All on MX Linux as well. I just completed Cyberpunk 2077 with the DLC Phantom Liberty and it took around 110 and I had 2 minor crashes where it froze and I had to close it, and one major that actually (for the first time ever using Linux) restarted my whole PC (might be a GPU or CPU overheating problem? Though I limit FPS so I dunno..). Next I'll probably play Disco Elysium which I've already sunk an hour into, so I know it plays just fine.

​@@RedSntDKit MAY sound irrelevant, but try eliminating the freezes by disabling the ipv6 function in grub. You would need to add the comment, GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX="ipv6.disable=1 [other parameters already there]" . Depending on your distro the way to edit grub.confug varies.... Be safe.

People over 30 probably have thousands of games in their library, most of them they never played. I do. I have over 900 games on Steam, over 800 on epic(didn't buy single game there) and gog(didn't buy here either), probably around 100 in other launchers. Add to that free to play games I never tried and you have more than a lifetime of games to play. I bought only one full price game in my life, that was Witcher 3 and Expansions. Everything else was always second hand or deals below $7-$10. I will never buy new, I only take freebies and if a deal is too good to pass on it and even then it is just FOMO. If I ever live to retirement and all those launchers will be around then I probably will play all day long, like that one fps grandpa that was trending recently :)

Hello Steve. Sitting here just a bit gobsmacked. I've managed to install cachyos on about the sixth or seventh attempt! It took an absolute lifetime, about a 1g download I believe; I chose Xfce. Haven't rebooted yet after the install, just closed down, so the jury is still out until I check it out, probably tomorrow. I think like a lot of distros hankering to automatically install nvidia, my e6410 that requires 340 drivers has been forgotten about.if I had ONE recommendation to someone wanting to move onto linux it would be to get a machine WITHOUT nvidia. And to all those happy with 'modern' nvidia cards - BE WARNED - your card will also eventually be simply dropped!!! Be safe...

And before it gets officially dropped there is always gradual abandonment. I wouldn't recommend using any non-RTX Nvidia card for gaming on Linux.

And to follow up on my last post, cachyos boots to a flashing prompt on my dell e6410, 8g ram, nvidia 340 card machine. It does however boot successfully into DE on my old dell 630, 4g ram, Intel graphics! Proof is in the pudding, as they say? Be safe...

i went from win10 to mint cinnamon 2 months ago, most of the time it feels as if i am still using windows but with some extras :-) For gaming many things (not all) work if you use steam and follow some tutorials on how to use it under linux. First run of a game is sometimes a p@in in the @ss, it can take a while. After that it is better. Also if, like me you have games on a dvd/cd rom or iso/repack files? i have no idea how to make them run, i used some windows emulator called 'bottles' and sometimes it works most of the time it doesn't. My nvidea card seems to work just as good as under windows. I am not gonna lie, i needed quite a lot of tutorials to get going. Getting used to the terminal and giving root access to be able to change things were new and have a learning curve (and messing things up if you have no idea what you are doing usually resulted in a fresh install of Cinnamon for me :-). What i did after a while was saving screenshots, save websites with answers or add videos to a playlist for every problem that i solved, so next time if i need to do that again i don't waste hours watching videos and searching :-)

Yes the game runs well but u need to install proton tricks the add 2 files. It is important to install xact files. Idk if changing proton version it will work, but it is essential to play properly. Doing so, the game runs perfectly

Most distros can if you run the right proton. I've run it for ages on MX without having to add any other files to the mix. Prefer SR3 though myself ;)
