Years ago I had a single din head unit fitted to my BMW. It had a small high quality screen so you could play dvd or video footage on it. The auto electrician said that by law there was a cut out from the handbrake (ebrake to you) to stop any video playback on the move. I asked the guy to show me how it was connected. As soon as I got home i disconnected it. He had to connect it or he could have been done for not doing it. Very nice job you’re doing my friend!

I'm doing the same to my FD! Really appreciate your videos on the door sound deadening and the interior details

Always appreciate the attention to detail, worth the wait. 👌

Thank you! I wish I had more time to spend on my cars and make videos. It pains me as much as it does you all with how slow things have been.

Those brackets look fresh! Clean work!
@IconGarage4 жыл бұрын
Thank you! The brackets are fairly cheap @ ~$40 US, so I can't complain too much with the few issues. They work and that's really what matters.

cheers for the custom front door 6.5" mounts, did not know they existed, I just ordered a set. You can get 5x7s for rear that fit straight in, I know you have bins and I think they have pockets there not speakers but you could easy put grills there instead
@IconGarage4 жыл бұрын
My car had the rear seats but I swapped to the bins. I kept the OE speaker brackets and installed 6x8 Pioneers. I have an older video that covers the conversion.

Icon Garage I found few bins in USA but shipping is broken atm like 1k usd to get to Aus Was 140 pre covid

I would love to have some 6x9 all around. I actually did 6x8 got a customer front set....now that I have been reading about car audio and speakers...I think I will 3D print some vented T housings for all speaker and custom speaker grills. Expensive but I love good sound.......I really enjoyed replacing the dash speaker with a GB25 audiofrog speaker...

Nice! 3D printing for the win! Let me know how it turns out.

@@IconGarage yea I have the Bose 4 inch front housings, which. Are a vented box. I just have to scan it and modify the file to enlarge the speaker whole for a 6x9 and make a t line maze inside. I'm hoping my buddy purchases one soon. Hell I Wanna purchase one.

Hey man, out of curiosity, what wire on the Pioneer Harness did you connect the Antenna Power wire (Blue) on the Carxtc Harness? I am in the middle of doing this install, but Pioneer doesn't seem to have a dedicated Antenna Power wire like they used to. I know I can just hook it to the Red Accessory wire (red), but then my Antenna would be up at all times the stereo is on and I'd prefer not to do that. Great channel. Love the content.

I’m just now seeing this comment. My car does not have the factory antenna, so I can’t say for sure how the wiring should be. I installed a small antenna on the dash.

Nice video. So you installed the Pioneer 6.5 TS speakers listed in the description, not the Kickers shown in the video?
@IconGarage4 жыл бұрын
No, I installed the Kickers. I think that model is no longer available so the link probably doesn’t work. I’ll fix it. Thanks!

I’ve watching your videos all through quarantine. And I’ve made some upgrades on my FD aswell. I do have a question tho. When I first got my car I swapped my steering wheel with a somewhat cheap aftermarket one. But that was 3years ago and I don’t remember if the FD came with a cable reel for the wires. Now every time I turn my wheel, the cables come loose and I had to keep crimping the wires over and over. Any suggestions on how to go about this or if any site sell a cable reel?
@IconGarage3 жыл бұрын
There is a wiring harness on the steering column that has two branches with connections on the steering column. Those shouldn’t move when the wheel is turned. Then there is a short harness that connect from the hub and to the factory steering wheel. I bet there are lots of used ones available if you check the forums/Facebook groups as people often change to an after market steering wheel. Hope this helps!

Just did this 6.5 speaker swap in my car with the same brackets. The first set of speakers I bought had too much mounting depth and hit the glass when going up and down. What was the mounting depth of the speakers you chose?
@IconGarage4 жыл бұрын
I don’t have the mounting depth numbers handy. I think they are 2”, but the speaker was maybe 1/2” or less beyond the back side of the brackets. I don’t have any issues with the window.

Haha. How would you go about changing a broken door mechanism cable on an FD? parts are really difficult to find out there
@IconGarage4 жыл бұрын
I haven’t had to do that, but it’s likely easy to source new sheathed cable and possibly make your own. Maybe reuse the ends. Is your cable snapped or is one of the ends broken?
@bestcamperever78024 жыл бұрын
Icon Garage my driver side snapped. I can only open it from the outside knob.

Several channels I watch do a montage video of the story or story so far. No more than 10 or twelve minutes using speeded up footage clips and a few subtitles.
@trustme420184 жыл бұрын
Great channel but a little less talking and showing us more
@IconGarage4 жыл бұрын
I can respect your feedback. It's a difficult balance between showing too much and not enough. It doesn't make a lot of sense to cover a bunch of topics in a single video as it makes it harder for those looking for a specific subject. It is not for everyone, but I like covering more of the details than just a fast unboxing and showing it finished in the car. It may be trivial to some, but others may be doing this project themselves/first time so the extra "talking" and details helps.
