Great video!! The front seat commanding officer (most likely lieutenant) has foot peddles that control the siren (Federal PA300 because this rig was made before 2003), in this case manually The chauffeur has a foot switch which operates the air horn.

@jasonbsa Engines still have a tank that normally may be anywhere from 500 to 1500 gallons of water. they use the tank when they are in an area without a working hydrant or on smaller fires, such as vehicle or rubbish fires

Nice and professional :) Love the Fire Lane idea too. Over here they use the tram tracks/cable car lane.

@MFRPhotographer On FDNY trucks, both the driver and the officer have pedals for the horn, siren and other warning devices
@redbull838212 жыл бұрын
@Mfpvehicles The FDNY uses modified PA300 sirens and they where built so they have a pedal on the floor of the truck like a Q2b siren.I have asked a few guys if it is a pain to keep hittin it, (who work in the FDNY) and they say no they get used to it after awhile.

I wouldn't call that aggressive driving. That's just good, safe driving.

@dt5102 that driving style would be normal here in Europe (at least on most countrys). I actually wouldn't call it aggressive, but the driver knows how to move fast AND safe

@MFRPhotographer I cant remember , someone on youtube told me that driver has a special "Pedal" (I think its for "Q" siren). And "Horn button" , I think , is on the steering wheel , or placed the same as in trucks... :)

@Mfpvehicles that is a "conventional" siren they are just using the manual switch on it because of a noise bylaw.

@ 148 you can hear ladder 43 using a Q siren to clear the intersection.

It may be an EQ2B (I.e. Electronic Q) Some FDNY Units have them.

@Rofocowboys84 Ya I go to the FDNY Shops every year, and I asked them about the sirens, and they said that they had them made to be diffrent than most PA300's from Federal.

@clarka97 yes the FDNY has q2 sirens

I find it that if one EV is following another EV, you should become 1 unit, it keeps people away so you both can pass safely

They're starting to put electronic Q's on the new rigs but not real Q's. I've heard a few rigs that have actual Q's.

@135maxer engine. no tanks, engine pumps water. tanks are not needed because hydrants support the rigs water supply.
@Rofocowboy8412 жыл бұрын
@redbull8382 Are you sure it's modified? Most modern sirens have an external input to use any kind of switch (horn ring, foot pedal, etc).

Just curious, im a firefighter in NSW Australia and am used to the conventional sirens that u turn on and change between wail and yelp...wouldnt it just be a pain in the ass to have to manually control it like in this video and use the horn etc. like i'd understand if it were the rotary air type siren but this just seems impractical lol
@F1r3GamingHD13 жыл бұрын
@ffhawk1 yes thats true also.

Who does control the siren and horn? or is it automatic? :D i would like to know
@alexandermakrianis3 жыл бұрын
I know it's been 9 years since you asked your question but I figured I'd answer it since no one else did. Usually the company officer (person in the right seat) controls it.

in major metro areas you have to be aggressive.... in metro houston, nobody cares, there's 4,000,000 people that live within 50 miles of the city, so wether you work for the city of houston or one of the outlying departments or volunteer in the outlying areas, you have to be on top of your game and be aggressive, because if arent jumping out of your way, they just dont give a shit
