Great audio from back in those days. I used to be in the "West farms" section of the South Bronx often in the late 60's/early 70's as I had relatives there and my family was from there. Every time I went there was always a big fire, sometimes several and the sounds of the sirens was constant. The big apartment building next to my Grandpa's house was gutted by fire as were just about all the buildings around him. Major fire activity was constant then. Around 1971 I got a crystal controlled scanner and those FDNY frequencies were buzzing with continual activity day and night. I remember this kind of audio well. Glad you have it preserved. Those were indeed the "war years".

I had the honor to work for and know bob Farrell who was the captain on ladder 31 during the war years! Awesome stories this guy was able to tell.

If anyone thinks they are the best firefighter in the world (cough)Kentland(cough). Let them listen to this. Fighting fires in impassable roads, blizzards, frozen hydrants, all in the days when the bronx was burning. These guys were and always will be the best firefighters.

Great audio... I think any FFs that served in the late 60s thru 70s should receive a medal.. that was a hell of a time

@SMINERD Too many firefighters aren't taught at the academy how to talk on the radio. It seems to be a subject that is OJT. If there's a firefighter down call, then is not the time to teach radio procedures.

Learn how to talk on the radio. That way everyone can understand what you are saying and what you mean.
