Couldn't you just solve for the Ultimate BOD (L_o) using the BOD_3 equation and substitute that into the BOD_5 equation and solve for BOD_5 that way?

Frank Gilmore , great question. I am going to try it out. I also have a solution to find the Biochemical Oxygen Demand (BOD) at any given time , if you know the BOD(t-n) , where n= 1, 2,3... etc. it’s more an abstract solution. I will share my solution. Thank you

You could solve it that way, as well, and you should get the same answer. I just think this way is a little faster, but again solve it the way you are comfortable with! Hope this helps and thank you for your question!

I'm going through the FE book and I am seeing a lot of questions dealing with hardness, alkalinity, neutralization. There aren't any good FE review videos on these topics.

So I will be posting a video some time this week going over all the books that I used to study for my test! Also under each video, I leave the links to the books I used. For EIT, it helped me get a job in a structural firm, so I think it does help you either get a job or even just further your career. Also, if you are planning to take the PE, which helps a lot career wise, you should definitely take the FE. I hope this helps 😊

Are the questions actually that straight forward on the exam ?

Some of them are and some of them are slightly hard. Also, keep in mind that for environmental, you get more conceptual questions and those are the ones that can be hard especially for civil students who never took environmental engineering class in college. But I found problem solving in environmental are straightforward, as long as you find the right equation, and you use some math and fluid mechanics if you are dealing with clarifiers and the rest is just plugging. I hope this makes sense 😊
