Fun fact for people who never played OG Gaiden: this theme actually played during several pre-battle conversations such as right before the Zofia Castle battle when Desaix yells at you or right before Alm's first battle in Chapter 3 when he tells everyone to stick together, and pick the enemy off one by one.

I think the best part about the SoV version is that it added it's own melody which were sung in the title screen, theme song and played many times throughout the game, to the later part of this track. Truly epic, just the game itself, a remake but so much more.

I love this from a compositional standpoint. The new version does exactly what you are supposed to do with a piece of music, which is take a motif and expand upon it. It's one of my favorite Fire Emblem pieces just for that.

I'm always amazed at how polished gaiden was for a Famicom title. I mean I love echoes completely but to be honest it's more of a modernization of the original, and it's crazy to think that's all the game really needed

While the original is by far one of my favorite FE tracks, I really wasn't that impressed by the SoV remix when I first heard it. After hearing the two directly compared, while the original is still my favourite, the remix is pretty great.

Broba Fett The 8 bit one just sounds more consistently climatic than the new one. The new one certainly sounds more dramatic, but it's just overall less intense and epic. I'm indifferent to music using actual instruments instead of artificial ones, and I can't even understand the lyrics anyway so I don't care about the lyrics that much.

Just because it has vocals doesn't make it better. It's how you use instruments and vocals that matters. And in this case, they tried to hard to make it 'hype' and 'epic' when they already had a hype and epic track and just missed the mark completely.

While I love the remade version (because I'm a sucker for chamber music sue me), after listening to the original, I have to say that the original was better. Don't get me wrong, they're both amazing, but I feel like the original has more pump and rhythm to it, making it seem more like a military march than a choral piece. It just gets the feel of Fire Emblem better. It doesn't help that the choir's Latin(?) pronunciation is so bad I can't make out a single word they're saying, so it ruins the overall effect of the song.

I'm so down with the original version compared to the Echoes version mainly because the original feels like a video game while the other feels like it could be used for anything (which is not a knock on the Echoes rendition!) Original Gaiden is way better. The SoV version tries to hard to make it hype and loses a bit of the tragic feel the original had.

OK first, final boss battle is often designed to be epic and the two songs are no exception to the rule. If you're saying that echoes is too epic compared to the original then that means it's more epic than the original, right? Second, as for the tragedy tone, it's certainly there with the chords behind which, I'll remind you is close to the style of the opening song "Omen". The latter is certainly not the music you'd play in a comedy. Second

Not "way better", just different. Original is more or less about Celica's and Alm's reunion whereas SoV is about the struggle of mortals against gods.
