An easier answer to question 9 is by finding the P at A using Force/Area = 2*1000 lbf / area in square inch = 4.42 psi. Convert 4.42 psi ft of water by multiplying by 2.307 = 10.2 ft of water (unit conversion given in the handbook). Then apply Bernoulli: 10.2 ft + 5 ft = h -> h = 15 ft

hey so 10.2 represents the height of the rectangular portion? Bc we got that height from the 4.42 PSI based upon the diameter of the tank? so we add the height of the rectangular tank and 5 to get 15? I'm just a little confused about the visualization. pls let me know if you can explain your method a bit more.

@@patk3943 10.2 ft is the equivalent pressure head (P/sp. weight) that is applied on the circular tank. i.e. 4.42 psi = 10.2 ft H2O pressure head (just do unit conversion). In my Bernoulli equation, I don't use his A and B points. I use two points at the bottom of h

Great video, thank you. Question on problem 10. At the end of the problem you give the equation FR (net) = dc x A x gamma of water. In order to use that equation, according to the FE manual (pg. 180), you assume "Patm" is acting on both sides. Why can you make that assumption? Under what conditions will you use "Wetted side: FR = (Patm+ ρgyC sin θ)A"?

Thank you for these videos. They are so helpful. I believe the Q5=C (totally submerge - center of mass below center of buoyancy) & Q6=b (floating system - center of mass above center of buoyancy). I have paused the video when the Q6 went to Q5 and got confused.

Indeed, and there is no contradiction between your reasoning and mine, start to watch from minute 27:54. I think the confusion comes from the fact that I didn't pay attention to the slides being switched during my explanation. Thanks for your comment.

Sorry for the delayed answer. I prefer to finish reviews related to section 1, than attack section 2. But stay tunned for an env quiz. The next two quizzes will be about : construction and environmental respectively. Good luck !

For #10, the diameter of the pipe is 8' in the question but 5' on the picture.
