@@dominicjannazo7144 In the Tellius series, you don't actually need a master seal to promote a unit, you just need to level them up to "level 21" at which point they'll automatically promote. This means if you have a repeatable source of exp (say a non-threatening boss), you can abuse that source to get some early promotions and throw the power curve out of whack.

@@webbowser8834 Funny thing is, Laura suffers from much the same problem as Sothe, aka her tier 3 caps and weapon type are bad. Plus, you lack the bexp to artificially raiser her lesser stats in part 1. Overall it's not as big a game changer as it sounds.

to be fair Sothe's bases are better than those of any prepromoted paladin in the series. It's largely because of the higher stats of radiant dawn in general but his are still better.

Fun fact: If you remove Sothe's invisible "cannot promote" skill in POR and get him to 20/20, his promoted stats will transfer directly, wherein he will ram literally all of his caps due to Blossom making him nigh-RNG-proof.

Having fully trained Sothe in PoR before, the capped stats transfer really do help out in part 3 especially in hard mode. The real thing that kills him is the baffling decision to give him Bane instead of lethality which only ever hurts instead of helps

Bane can't proc on hits that would kill in RD, so it only ever helps... But it's still one of the weakest tier 3 skills

@@oscarcapac1786 considering every other skill all but guarantees an instant kill... bane IS the weakest skill, hell bane cant trigger on bosses period, which isnt much since the last few have mantle which prevent all skill activations anyway but theirs still some generic bosses you have to deal with.

Sothe is a strange case of a Jaigen. It's like they meant him to be falling off later on, but that people would still want to invest into him for story reason. I still have some fun using his guard ability to protect Micaiah, but I don't know how reliable that is. Then Bane comes in. Like it's either meant for him to train weaker units or kill thougher enemies. Even on paper it sounds weird, but this comes in the endgame where "training" units is an even more questionable choice.

There is a remarkable lack of factual information on many of this game's lesser skills and Guard is one of them. Datamining wasn't very common back then and it doesn't seem like people with the know-how are in any hurry to go back and/or spread their findings. From our understanding (and some testing I did), the rate is around 20% at A rank with Sothe's base stats (assuming stats factor in at all). It's... quite bad.

Yeah, +1 to this. If you're playing "optimally" you probably throw away most of the weak earlygame chum enemies, whose XP value is not very high in the grand scale of things, into Volug to grind his strike rank, since the XP "loss" is comparatively less.

Is it me or is it that the more I learn about FE games like Radiant Dawn or Binding Blade the less it makes me want to actually play them. Outside of Radiant Dawn costing like 300$. Not a knock against anybody who likes those but man do they seem rough.

Fire Emblem is pretty wack, but being able to be wack yourself and learn how to effectively beat each map is part of the appeal. Not to mention there are some pretty easy games (Sacred Stones) and the ability to play on easier difficulties if you just want to experience the story

@@sirfellow941 Should clarify, I'm into Fire Emblem. Played Awakening, Fates, and Engage. What I mean is that whenever I have the urge to go backwards and check out the other Fire Emblem games like Binding Blade and/or Radiant Dawn I get very mixed signals.

They were the biggest and prettiest games in the series for like 15 years and I think that's inflated their quality in a lot of people's minds. RD in particular is a million hours long and has a story nearly as awful and contrived as Conquest's

Radiant Dawn would be the Best Fire Emblem if the first Chapter wasn't the worst. Chapter 2 has some cool Gimmicks for it's Maps, does finish the build-up for Elincia from nice Princess to princess who Fights for her people, to nice Princess that Fights for her people Into Nice Princess that will fuck you up if you mess with her people, has REALLY AWESOME Battle/Maps Soundtracks, and gives you Haar. And then Chapter 3 is the most power trip to ever Power trip in Fire Emblem.

You should really not be looking here for motivation to play anything. As he said himself, his is a comedy channel. I'll say, you'd probably miss the quality of life features they introduced around Awakening quite a bit. If you can look past that though, there's a lot to enjoy.

Unlike other units, Sothe’s stats directly carry over from PoR, so a capped out Sothe will be good for RD. But a screwed Sothe will actually be worse.

That's a common misconception and I have no idea where it comes from. 95% of the time that won't be the case. His stats do directly carry over, but that's only if he reached level 20, which... Let's be honest no one does this. And even if you do it, on average his stats will be slightly better than radiant dawn. Not by a lot, but they WILL be higher. Sothe's base stats in radiant dawn are hp35, str18, mag4, skl20, spd20, lck15, def14, res9. You might compare this to his average stats at page on serenes forest at level 20 in path of radiance but you can't do that because it doesn't account for blossom, which increases growth rates. His actual average stats at level 20 in path of radiance if you don't take out blossom are hp36, str21, mag4, skl25, spd28, lck21, def15 res10. There is not a single stat that's lower than his radiant dawn bases. And that's not counting if you decide to just give him stat boosters, or abuse level ups or if you just get lucky of course. But yes, it IS possible that he'll get slightly lower stats. But you'd need to have really bad rng for it to make a significant difference.

@@jokx4409 Sothe's strength/skill/speed are capped at 20 in Path of Radiance, so he'll be slightly stronger and can also be much bulkier. I transferred over a level 20 Sothe that capped all stats except magic and luck, though his luck cap in Radiant Dawn is low enough that it's capped there anyway... and then his luck cap actually falls when he promotes. Sothe still sucks even with that once it's part 3/4.

I got caught up calculating average stats myself and forgot to talk about them, not realizing the problem with saying "Sothe on average will get 28 speed in fe9" lol. But yeah don't get me wrong the difference is pretty minor and it's not even that worth it considering he does indeed fall off no matter what.

On North American normal mode? No way. Not even if you're playing with Transfers (which, well, is your own fault if you think that made the experience too easy, in the same way turning on Phoenix Mode in Awakening Normal is your own call). If anything, NA Normal (=JP Hard) often comes up in the discussions for hardest FE on its default difficulty level.

Soothe Is Poorly Designed For Endgame. His Caps and Bane Abilty are Trash. His Luck Cap Is Lower from 40 to 35 and His Strength Cap is a Mere 28...Whispers Are Overall Much Weaker then a Trueblade...To Balance This..Whispers Should Have a Higher Luck and Resistance Cap and Slightly Higher Resistance and Luck Growth.
