Don't forget, most of Byleth's lines/actions, even outside of CF, indicate that he WANTS to join Edelgard. Chapter 12 (To War); "Is she truly wicked?" Chapter 18 (AM, The King's Triumphant Return); "You will soon face Edelgard..." Chapter 19(SS), 20(VW) (Conclusion of the Crossing Roads); "I don't want to kill Edelgard"/"Perhaps we could walk the same path as Edelgard?" Chapter 21(AM) (Our Chosen Paths); "Are you sure Edelgard will show up, professor?" "I know she will." In SS/AM/VW, at the holy tomb, when Edelgard and Hubert warp away, leaving Rhea ranting madly, Byleth is still as stonefaced as ever, but in CF, Byleth starts smiling after choosing to protect Edelgard. In most paths, Byleth seems to fixate more upon Edelgard than the actual lord of the path, and in CF, he doesn't seem to care much about Dimitri's death, and his immediate concern is Edelgard's emotional state. Also, Byleth only wonders if you could've worked with Claude AFTER you choose to spare or kill him. This is why I consider CF canon, because it coincides with what Byleth seems to truly want.

I started Fire Emblem: Three Houses and I decided to follow Edelgard's path to fight for her.. but also.. I have to admit.. get the S-Support with her. I had a big crush on Azura from Fates or even Celica in Shadows of Valentia, but here.. wow.. she's just gorgeous ! Her appearance makes me think a lot about Daenerys Targaryen and everyone knows how Daenerys is an absolutely beautiful woman ! I really like her personality which, despite the fact that she often remains very much in the « Empress mode », is very endearing and sometimes she becomes more vulnerable, which doubles our attachment for her. For me.. and I know she’s not the only one.. El is the perfect woman in this opus without any doubt and I'm really looking forward to getting married with her ❤️

This is one of the reasons Edelgard is my waifu. So I played BL first, then BE, then GD. Each play through broke my heart in one way. In BL, I loved Dimitri’s redemption. It's a coping mechanism. Remember, Edelgard once had faith in the goddess and her uncle, but then her uncle was replaced by you-know-who, and during those "procedures", the goddess never answered her pleas. Since then, she's distanced herself from meaningful connections, fearing that trust will be betrayed, and she'll be hurt again. Edelgard only removes her 'mask' after the holy tomb, when Byleth makes his decision based on his belief in her as a person. It's like how Bernadetta is outwardly frightened all the time, and only ever speaks normally in the presence of people she believes she can trust, like Byleth (who always listens), and Alois (Who reminds her of her uncle, the 1 adult who was always nice to her). Edelgard says as much in her A-support with Bernadetta.

My experience with FE:TH so far- First play through: Meet El, pursue El, meet Ingrid along the way, recruit Ingrid, side with El, kill Rhea, marry El. Second playthrough: Choose Black Eagles again, pursue Ingrid, recruit Ingrid, keep Edie as my best friend, side with Edie in the tomb, kill Rhea, marry Ingrid. Now starting on my third playthrough, only as a woman this time: Romance El, be Ingrid's best friend, recruit everyone possible for the Black Eagles, kill Rhea. Nothing against Rhea, I just can't side against Edelgard or bare to have to kill Ingrid and I don't have to do the Blue Lions to get her. Fuck, Marry, Kill. I guess.

It's sad... as someone who pursued the Golden Deer route, I can't help but have mixed feelings about Edelgard. It's obvious that her and Claude had similar goals, but she approached hers all wrong, starting a war with the wrong people and resulting in a bloody five year war. If only she had put her trust in others like Claude, they probably could have come up with a way to get what they wanted together that wouldn't have cost so many lives. Her reasons for going so far are understandable, but it didn't justify her approach. Going Golden Deers was definitely the best choice for me.

I wouldn't even really say that the war was with the wrong people. Edelgard definitely misunderstood Nemesis and Rhea's history, but even knowing that, she was right in her stance that Rhea needed to go. Honestly Rhea was so obsessed with bringing back her mother and having her rule Fodlan that I doubt anything but a major conflict could have shown Rhea just how badly she had failed in her duty to watch over the people of Fodlan. Even Edelgard knows she can't remain the ruler of Fodlan after all she had to do. This is part of the reason why she abdicates the throne after getting done what she needed to get done. Once her reforms are pushed through and TWSITD are dealt with she gives up power to someone that people can more easily get behind. Claude's path to power is definitely one that's easier to get behind from a moral standpoint, but could he have gotten there if Edelgard hadn't started the war first and brought the Church's power structure crashing down? Would Rhea have ever revealed the truth if she were still in power and still in a position to deal with TWSITD through her own methods? To be honest I don't think so. I believe this war, as terrible as it may have been, was necessary to bring about change.

@@DevilHunter1994 You're not wrong, for the most part. I had thought about it and wondered what Claude would have done to achieve his dream without the war. But thinking about his actions even before the war broke out, you could tell he was getting ready for something similar, but approached with far more caution and a wish to understand the church. Rhea had done well for the people for a time, but it obviously faded as her obsession became greater to see her mother which, considering her age and what she suffered, I feel I can't blame her for. She installed a system that, for the most part, worked for a while but was flawed. But Edelgard didn't try to understand. She assumed it was one way and that it was all Rhea's fault as well as the church. While they do share some blame, she was fairly misguided in her ambitions. Claude was prepared to make an enemy of the church, but he was doing what he could to find a way that would avoid bloodshed, such as learning the church's secrets and hoping to use it to his advantage. He admitted to being ready to from the beginning, but you can tell he doesn't want to. While abdicating her thrown makes her look less power hungry, it's still very difficult to get behind Edelgard's ambitions when her approach is so brutal. All in all, I'm hoping for a dlc for a combined house in which claude and edie realize their dreams together (with dimitri along for the ride XD) while doing their utmost for fodlan without getting innocent people killed.

@@johnd.zephyr2531 Yeah poor Dimitri really got the short end of the stick when it came to understanding...well...pretty much anything that was going on. I can just imagine Edelgard and Claude working with Byleth and comparing notes to understand the truth of all of all this. All the while Dimitri is just there sitting at the table with his mouth agape as his view of the world is completely shattered and he's thinking "EVERYTHING I KNOW IS A LIE!!!!!!" In all seriousness though I kinda hope we don't get a happier 5th route. I love these characters, but I think knowing that there's really no clean way out of this whole mess is part of what makes the story so great and beautifully tragic.

When I experienced her line in GD... "I wanted to walk with you.." something in me just kinda sank. I felt so bad for her. So much misunderstandings, so much that went wrong that could have been done differently if only she had shackled her way out and reached out for help. As you say, low key very glad I did GD first, but just something in me felt that we could help her out of there, not just guide her through it, but damn. Such mixed feelings in something so small.

At some point Byleth goes to his fathers grave with the ring he gave him, you’re then given the option to choose who you want to marry, after beating the final boss you get to propose to whoever you selected. I think that’s how it goes.

She and Hubert leave the party, along with any chance of romancing her. You still meet up with her in the Goddess Tower after the time skip though, but the next time you meet her is when you have to kill her.

Byleth literally cures Lysithea in their ending, presumably the day after the final battle. I'm positive that Edelgard's lifespan was restored, after all, she has both Linhardt and Hanneman supporting her. Also, Byleth is only immortal as the enlightened one, and he isn't anymore.

If you side with her, the stone on your heart gets destroyed when you kill Rhea. So the goddess' influence fades away, your hair and eyes go back to normal, and your heart starts beating again :)

nicksmi56 Yeah, I’m starting to think after that scene that Byleth was never stillborn. Sitri still died in childbirth, but Rhea implanted the crest stone into Byleth’s heart to attempt to turn him into Sothis, not to save a dying child, after all, he was the son of a prior experiment and a knight who possessed Seiros’s blood. Rhea was lying about the stillborn thing the whole time, and Byleth’s vertigo in chapter 8, his loss of consciousness in chapter 10, and the heartbeat sounds in the CF decisions are because of his heart beating on its own, likely in response to an intense emotional phase, after all, a heartbeat is a sensation that he’s not used to.

Because the crest stone returned to the creator sword. The enlightened one form only happened because Byleth had that thing in his heart. This was likely a symbolic representation of Byleth rejecting the fate that Rhea laid out for him.
