She's certainly still in love with Byleth in the other routes, but she doesn't let her feelings for Byleth stop her from doing what she feels she needs to do. Someone who was truly obsessed would put the object of their obsession above everything else (like Dmitri does in his quest for revenge) and Edelgard doesn't do that. When weighed against her desire to create a better future for Fodlan, her love for Byleth loses out to her sense of duty. She doesn't like the idea of having to fight and kill Byleth, but she is still prepared to do it if it comes down to that. She doesn't have some kind of secret Byleth shrine in her throne room and she doesn't get on her knees and beg Byleth to be with her every time they cross paths. She faces Byleth on the battlefield the same as she would any other enemy.

In this scenario, Jeralt probably would've been proud of Byleth for having the balls to actually turn against Rhea outright. Something Jeralt himself lacked the courage to do. Best he was able to muster was staging Byleth's death and fleeing the monastery to break free temporarily. Even had a cover prepared to explain Byleth's presence. Too bad Byleth ends up cleaving that cover in two along with that fireball with the Sword of the Creator in the Holy Mausoleum.

Edelgard is easily the most interesting Lord out of the Three. Like her life begins pretty strong with her time at the Kingdom where she even met with Dimitri until...that when her life begins to take a turn for the waste. Edelgard returns to the Empire only to met with torture, experiments, trauma and watched all of her siblings die while her father can't do anything. This event sadly made her forget everything about the time that Dimitri and Edelgard bonded which is a shame as...if this terrible event didn't happen they would have possibly become the best of friends. She soon watched how the nobles made her father into a puppet on the throne and how watched how the value of Crest can destroy a person's life. As shown in Hanneman's support which reveals how his sister got killed...it pretty messed up. Keep in mind that this isn't the only time on how a "Crest" can ruin a person's life. Sylvain's brother got completely disowned by his own father because Sylvain got a crest and he didn't, Ingrid with how suitors only love her because of her crest and due to this....it might force her out of her dreams of becoming a knight, Mercedes got a shit dad that only loved her mother just because of a crest and once he has a male heir he completely kicked them out...oh that not all. Once he heard about her escape with her mother...he was planning to make Mercedes marry him...but lucky her young brother killed him sadly it didn't end there as her adopted father took her in just because she has a crest and he what her to marry. As for the Golden Deer...Lysithea suffered the same fate as Edelgard...well nearly the same but hey it close enough. In fact, in their support, Edelgard treated her as a sister alongside a friend. Marianne is always haunted about her crest and is actually suffering the same fate as Mercedes where her adopted father what her to marry. Like Rhea is known for not listening to criticism and doesn't give a shit as she rather stays in power. In fact, the Church of Serio is corrupt and yet Rhea didn't do anything about it, from how history is rewritten, killing those who oppose them, not listening to the ideas of reforms and etc. Also, keep in mind that they have been doing this shit year! About a thousand years ago which caused a lot of suffering. Yet they wonder why people oppose them. So keep in mind that yes Edelgard can go a little too far....but this doesn't excuse Rhea's actions.

Edel is the true hero of the game. Easily the most misunderstood character the fact she gives up her throne the moment she realizes her goals of reform just shows how she meant everything she said and it was never a desire for power her goals were noble and never misguided she set forth with each step with determination that others might not agree but it was all necessary in order to build the future for fodlan as a whole. No one else had that resolve, if edel never existed rhea would still be ruling and trying to rebirth her mother and fodlan itself would have never progressed beyond where its been since the church assumed control of fodlan as a whole. Really fodlan would benefit immensely if she continued to rule cause she has the qualities to be easily the most outstanding human leader in all of fodlan's history second really probably to only sothis herself and thats only because of what she was capable of as a goddess.

I do agree that her cause is just, it’s just that she started the war very aggressively, without trying to communicate with the other houses (or the church, but we can ignore that because we all know how they would respond). She didn’t trust anyone else. Had she worked something out with Claude or Dimitri, then it would’ve been smooth sailing. And because of this mistake, a lot more lives were sacrificed by all factions in Fódlan.

Blue Squid thing is she couldn’t do these things like talk to other house. Due to the fact that the Church has its influence everywhere. More so in the Alliance and Kingdom then Empire. As a result, anyone she talk to about her secret plan, could end up being a spy for the church. Leading to Edelgard death. We are shown how the church kill people for the smallest of betrayals. As well, Edelgard wouldn’t trust either of Claude or Dimitri with her plan. Dimitri being a unstable mess and has opposing view of justice and right and wrong. And Claude being a Schemer who could turn on her at any moment. Edelgard only choice were to sacrifice those lives. There was no easy route, no easy plan for her to chose. Only a route that lead to death.

Chapter 18 (AM, The King's Triumphant Return); "You will soon face Edelgard..." Chapter 19(SS), 20(VW) (Conclusion of the Crossing Roads); "I don't want to kill Edelgard"/"Perhaps we could walk the same path as Edelgard?" Chapter 21(AM) (Our Chosen Paths); "Are you sure Edelgard will show up, professor?" "I know she will." In SS/AM/VW, at the holy tomb, when Edelgard and Hubert warp away, leaving Rhea ranting madly, Byleth is still as stonefaced as ever, but in CF, Byleth starts smiling after choosing to protect Edelgard. In most paths, Byleth seems to fixate more upon Edelgard than the actual lord of the path, and in CF, he doesn't seem to care much about Dimitri's death, and his immediate concern is Edelgard's emotional state. Also, Byleth only wonders if you could've worked with Claude AFTER you choose to spare or kill him. This is why I consider CF canon, because it coincides with what Byleth seems to truly want.

I really hope the story DLC extends the Crimson Flower route. It feels like there was much less effort put into that one compared to the other three, since there are fewer chapters and even fewer animated cutscenes. Hell, even Rhea's transformation into The Immaculate One is done in a freaking single cg image of her with no transition. And then there's "The Ones Who Slither in the Dark", who on top of needing a better, proper name, though that's just a general complaint, are never properly confronted in the CF route despite them clearly being behind even more awful things than the Church of Seiros. Like really, all the needed to do was make the battle against Dimitri into it's own standalone chapter, do the same with the battle against Rhea, then add like two chapters where The Ones Who Slither in the Dark betray you and Edelgard and you have to take them down to end the war, or maybe flip the order of the Rhea confrontation and TOWSITD. I mean, don't get me wrong, I love Edelgard, and went CF for my first playthrough, but the route feels unfinished and lacking compared to the other three.

Yes, this is one thing that bothers me. I know it had to be done for game purposes, but…I’ve kinda fallen in love with all the characters, so I hate having to side against anyone. And…well, I’m not looking to argue, but I also think that most of the main ideals of the three lords are the same, or even if not the same, adjacent or parallel. I feel that it is mostly their circumstances and what past that haunts them that keep them fighting against each other. I guess that’s just my opinion. I am probably in the minority here, but I view Crimson Flower as the canon Three Houses ending. Why? Because it is the only route where the enemy, the Immaculate One (who is, of course, the seriously evil Dragon most FE games feature as Final Boss) is identified as being evil and dealt with accordingly. Leave it to Fire Emblem to create a game with three obvious story routes that all share an enemy (i.e. Edelgard)...and a partially hidden fourth route where that enemy is in fact a dear friend and fighting against the true oppressor of humanity (i.e. Immaculate One/Church of Seiros). Strange logic? No stranger than viewing Fates' third Revelation route as the true canon ending because it is the only one where we rid the world of Anankos. Even the FE Wiki states that "Anankos is the true main antagonist and the true final boss of Fire Emblem Fates."

In Crimson Flower, you can recruit everyone except Claude, Hilda, Dimitri, Dedue, Seteth, Flayn, Gilbert, Catherine, Cyril, and Rhea. You can spare Claude in chapter 14, allowing him and Hilda to escape to Almyra. Seteth and Flayn can be spared if you attack them with Byleth in chapter 15. Gilbert and Catherine’s deaths can also be avoided if you advance all your units through the west path in chapter 18. However, it’s practically impossible to avoid killing Cyril, since he’s right next to Rhea. Also, Rhea, Dedue, and Dimitri HAVE to die.

Decision in the holy tomb is reworded as "To defend Fodlan, I must kill Edelgard" and "To liberate Fodlan, I must protect Edelgard" 4. If siding with Edelgard, Rhea turns into the Immaculate one once you resurface post timeskip 5. Edelgard's stance on the goddess softens on your return, as she believes the goddess has no longer forsaken her 5. Sparing Claude and recruiting the Alliance is mandatory (and was the preferred option, anyway) 6. ROUTE EXTENSION: With Byleth's "one person army" and the Alliance supporting her as well, Edelgard reprioritizes taking out Thales and Shambala, and not letting TWSITD gain any more footing on their own 7. Seteth and Flayn are with Dimitri in the penultimate battle, and unlike Dimitri, can retreat there. Three changes to Verdant Wind: 1. The events of the comic "A Late Night Negotiation" happen. 2. Rhea tells everything she knows immediately upon contact. She flies off after liberation, not being aware of Shambala. Her fate is unclear. 3. With Rhea not present, Thales does not fire missiles on himself (and only does so on Silver Snow), but goes straight into summoning Nemesis.

When I first received the game, I sided with Dimitri and played the azure moon route and I completely hated edelgard for all the tragedy and suffering that she caused throughout Fodlan. Regardless I completely understood her motives for rebelling against the church and throughout the end of azure moon I was still hoping that Dimitri could still be able to reach out to her and redeem her, but in the end it just seemed as if she was beyond salvation; but after watching this I was shocked to see her human side emerge throughout the time that she spent with byleth. What really broke me though was seeing her being overcome with remorse after killing dimitri. At first I just thought that to her the moments that the two shared together throughout their childhood was nothing but a lie, however that scene proved me wrong.

Nah, Silver Snow is the canon one. Edelgard is still the main lord but Byleth is the one who is reforming Fodlan for good. Besides, he doesn't even make him/herself an enemy of the other territories. You're trying to end this war on your side and fullfill your duty of stopping your student, TWSID and even Rhea retreats (as Edelgard wanted but you don't kill her). Silver Snow might be bad in comparison with GD and BL but it is far better than Crimson Flower in the sense of Byleth not being an ungrateful bitch who slaughters territories that are defending themselves from the thread that is Edelgard. Edit: Also, you get more units in SS and you are able to do Ferdinand and Mercedes paralogue.

Am I the only one here that sees the huge difference in chara design at 1:04:17 ? Why is her face like this ? Did they just suddenly change the chara-designer for just one picture that also looks really bad? Why do all the females in S-support look so childish?

yeah ive noticed that too, i'm sure they had a different artist to draw all the s-support pictures (same goes for picture cutscenes too). it's just how they draw females, honestly i found it quite uncanny at first. same goes for some of the males (like ashe's, boy looks like a literally baby). not too sure why, possibly to make it more "angelic and beautiful" in a sense. this is debatable though.
