28:08 O'ssa's commentary on the slums is so interesting. Hardened by witnessing extreme despair, he believes in taking fate into your own hands and overcoming hardship with great strength. It's good personal advice, and it's clearly a mindset that has carried him far, but he also resents these people for being weak. Everybody else instead understands the slums as a product of a broken society, and view Ossa's commentary as cold or offensive. It's not reasonable to expect everybody to be exceptional and overcome true hardship. I love the radical selfishness of the yellow mage faction, and this dialogue is such a great piece of their ideology, as well as a great set of character moments. Really well written stuff.

I went into this thinking o'saa was going to end up teaching quite a bit to marina since they both deal with otherworldly powers in their occupations, maybe even form a master and pupil relationship, but they barely even speak to each other

occultism is when you have a devotion to a specific figure of worship so maybe they just use completely different magic in that context. Marina makes you get closer to gods will Osaa is part of a group that’s seemingly based around trying to learn as much sorcery as possible without worshiping gods wich is almost the opposite. It would probably be like a Brazilian Juijitsu practitioner not caring about learning Boxing and vice versa.

I had a talk with a person similar to O'saa... Preaching to me the word of: "Men are so weak this days, they don't know what true suffering is, but I am gonna surpass them, because i'm strong." He talked about how strong man are prepared for war, and that he is one of them. I'm not usually a person who talks about morals and what is right for others, but... I've never felt so disguted by reading words in front of me, a individual talking his ass of people who really suffered, just to give him the sense of superioty over everyone. Always a absolute jerk, a guy who made people hate each other without they ever even meeting , saying how woman were sluts for not appreaciting him, being the victim of all his past relationships(friends&romantical). Searching for mentally weak girls so they can rely on him, surrounding himself with woman all the time. Of course... his favorite character was the infamous Patrick Bateman, he even tried to look like him. Sometimes I think, "Damm what a asshole, i'm glad I don't think that way", but I soon realize i'm acting just like him. Pushing others down so you can thrive. But in the end I ask myself, what I am actually doing? Nothing. At least he is doing something for others, for his own gain.

I gotta disagree. They ain't the same. O'saa has that ideology built up from his experience of being a heavily poor person to a yellow mage, the most selfish and asshole faction. So he naturally became kind of a "wise" asshole. The other person you are talking about, is just a victimist incel. Who surely didn't even served in a civilian organization.
