I have lived and worked in 21 countries during my 80 years. Five of these countries were Islamic and some Christian dictatorships. However, in even the most developed countries, homosexuality was 'illegal'. Not persecuted, perhaps, but illegal. In every country, including Iraq, there were 'closeted' communities of LGBTQI. It was dangerous, even deadly, but life went on. Religion has a lot to answer for.

In the Middle East, Turkey is like a liberated region for homosexuals. Persecution has any forms of expression and not only in Iraq. Even in a safer country, gays are still stigmatized and hated. Everywhere, having to act as straight as possible for protection. So we don't lose family, friends, jobs, status etc.... The threat is still very real. How many times have I heard homophobic jokes or comments and had to act as though I wasn't bothered? How many times have people lied and lead a double life? It's haunting, tiring, it's existence until we find a group or area where we feel safe, where we don't have to pretend what we're not. The daily message we receive every time we have to hide is that of shame. Do you think an employer in Canada will admit to firing someone over sexual orientation? Of course not, because it's illegal to do so. They'll make up some phony story about your poor performance or not being agreeable with others to let you go. You have no way of proving that it's a wrongful dismissal. They'd have to be recorded saying it. It happens all the time. So there are laws that mention it's illegal to discriminate..... sure.... but it's disguised and still happens. Just as racism is still very real. It's just disguised so people won't be charged by law. It's everywhere. Iraq is more outward with it. Canada is hidden but very active in discriminating.

@christopherhitchens1632 жыл бұрын
@@sayantanghosh they in that sentence does not make sense, but they is both plural and non plural. There does need to be a better word for non binary. For example, there are often times when you may not be able to distinguish a man from a women (you can find men with extremely feminine facial features (androgynous)). Someone might say: “do you see that man?/women? over there” instead of saying: “man or women” there must be a word which indicates a lack of info on the persons gender etc. The phrase non binary often can now be exploited by adding addition person characteristics. For example people could say: “oh stop being such a straight cis Caucasian male etc etc etc” I could add a few things I would like to be addressed as but that would destroy the English language How am disrespecting her? She will take offence when I do not use the language properly. I am offended when the language gets trashed
@sayantanghosh2 жыл бұрын
@@christopherhitchens163 you're already disrespecting them by assigning them a 'gender' they do not identify with and in this case it's 'her'. I agree there's no better word for NB people but I also do not see any issues regarding using "they/them" in this case. English is my 2nd language, which means I had to learn it from scratch. So I have always seen books, articles etc. using "them/them" instead of he/his or she/her and they do not seem to 'disrespect' the language whatsoever. Languages should be versatile and evolve with time to be more inclusive so that people can accept it whole heartedly, and in this case just a little tweak. My first language is Bengali and I have to say there is no gendered pronoun in it, which makes it a Lil bit easier for NB or Trans people to be themselves and I couldn't be more happy. That's scary that such violations of civil liberty can occur in the modern day. These regimes need to be stopped. Mashaallah. HaShem gave them that shape for a reason. These people were born that way. It is not a choice. At least Israel is welcoming and protective of its LGBT community. If only the other Middle Eastern countries could be. Baruch HaShem. As salaamu alaikum.

Guys if it's like you say it you are open minded As a teenager who (choose) Islam I don't support anything or any kind of sexuality and I need no one to support me and that's equal for both, but we don't all think the same way we don't think of killing or kidnapping as a solution or a way to force it's very wrong, but for me and other true Muslims we will mind our own business and take steps away so we can be all Muslims who have the same way of thinking and you live your own happy life with other's like you is that fair enough?

Imagine going through every day acting like someone you’re not. Imagine every relationship you formed being built on lies. Every “friend” you had never knowing the real you. Think of the fear and insecurity that would constantly be on your mind. Just stop and think for a moment about what that might feel like. That’s what you’re asking LBGT people to do. Instead of asking people to live a lie maybe you should ask people to extend just a little bit of empathy to their fellow human beings.
